The most popular main character(s) in the anime

I was thinking, who is(are) the most favorite main character(s) on the show? Who do the fans most like?

And, who likes the creators of the anime better?

I think Ash's Pikachu, Brock, Cilan or Team Rocket. With Ash's Pikachu, they could do everything. Brock is just a amusing character. Team Rocket was sort of kinda confirmed to be the creators favorite characters (Or am I wrong?). Cilan is just...everything? (Gym Leader, Connoisseur, Fisher, Detective, cook)
 
Satoshi, Kasumi, Haruka, Hikari, Dent, Iris and Team Rocket.

EDIT: Oh, how could I forgot: PIKACHU!

Ash, Pikachu and the Team rocket Trio have always been my personal favs. And I'm sure they are popular among many fans as well.
 
Every character has this massive fanbase but at the same time, there is an almost equally large hatedom for that character. Ash, Misty and May being the most glaring exaples.

Really, Brock is the only character to not have a massive hatedom. People either love him, like him or at worst just find him boring. I have never seen pure hate for him as I have for the others.
 
The anime has been going on for 14 years with people coming in and out of the show all the time. There's no way of telling who is the most popular other than Ash/Pikachu.
 
In the United States it's Ash, Misty and Brock because that's when Pokemon was at the height of its popularity and people recognize them is iconic of their childhoods and almost everyone knows Ash, Misty, Brock and Pikachu and a lot of people recognize Team Rocket as well. In other countries I don't know but, I'd assume similar results. Although, I don't know maybe in other countries May is iconic though, I find it hard to believe otherwise. Originals are always more loved and recognized by people(not everyone but, majorities)
 
I wouldn't say Brock, when you look at fanfics and fanart Misty gets more love than him, even to this day. >_>

Ash obviously. Followed by Misty, May and Dawn.
 
When I talk to people and they find out I like Pokemon they always mention Brock, mostly about how as a child they would've sworn on their lives he was blind.
 
Well I suppose in the same way that the first 151 Pokemon are the most recognizable.

Yet being, "recognizable," and, "popular with current fans," are two different things.

Its the same way the Kanto pokemon aren't always the most popular with current fans, who prefer the Hoenn, Sinnoh or Unova designs.
