From obvious names like Muk, to pokemon names that have just been turned round from their inspired animal, such as Ekans, many pookemon names are not that origional. So which one is the most unorigional pokemon name in your opinion.

I think the abra's evolutions are personally the most unorigional, just using 3 words of a famous magical phrase to give to phycic pokemon isnt that thoughtgful... Abra is probably the worst.

Serperior. Well because his name just sounds like you're saying the word superior.

Muk and Seel are the main offenders here, but nearly every Gen I Pokémon would qualify.

Most pokemon from Gen I. Some examples; Muk, Caterpie and its evolutions, Kadabra, Alakazam, Tauros, and Seel.

the english pokemon names have nothing on the japanese ones when it comes to un-originality
"crab," "ghost," "sand," "pigeon," "sleep"... at least they got better in later gens ヾ| ̄ー ̄|ノ

And have you guys seen the prototype English names for Gen I Pokemon? A good example? Basically ALL of them.

Charmeleon is Japanese for Lizard whilst Rattata (Tiny Rat) evolves into Raticate (Rat). Seel is nothing compared to that.

I thought Electrode's a bit uninspired only because its name doesn't mention its spherical body. However, in term of names, I think the Japanese names in Generation 1 are very good examples. We have stuff like "Sand", "Lizard" and "Showers". Generation 5 had one, which is "Gear". For English, I agree that Seel is quite uninspired.

Thanks for reading.

Muk,Seel,Dewgong

Why is dewgong unorigional?

Because it's just 'dugong' with an 'e' and 'w'.

I think Pignite and Emboar are the most unoriginal names. The fandom had called those names months before Nintendo announced the English names. It was disappointing that they didn't try to come up with something a little more unpredictable.

Well pretty much all of the Japanese names of the Gen I Pokemon (Man do those names suck) bt of course Seel and Dewgong are pretty bland... Muk is meh as well

Call me stupid but ive just researched dugong, didnt have a clue it was an animal. Thought it was quite origional until now so my bad for questioning his answer :)

It's majorly agreed that Gen I (US and Japan) had terribly boring names.

...well, okay, Darkrai's my favorite Pokemon, but when you figure out how his name goes...really? Dark + kurai (Japanese for "dark"). I love you, Darkrai, but why didn't GF try to find a cooler name for you?

A bunch of the Japanese games are ridiculously unoriginal:

Hikozaru (Chimchar): Hi=fire, ko=kid, and zaru, which comes from saru=monkey.
Ghost (Gastly): Speaks for itself.
Lizardon (Charizard): Again, speaks for itself.
Showers, Thunders (Vaporeon, Jolteon): Seriously?
Porygon: From Polygon. Again, wow.
Miniryu (Dratini): Mini + Ryuu=dragon
Usokki (Sudowoodo): Uso=fake, lie. Ki=Tree

I could go on and on. And that's just what I notice from my very limited Japanese vocabulary XD
