I don't know about you guys but I'm really wondering what's up with those Pikachu they're showing on the official OR/AS website. Do you think they might be hinting at the ability to dress up your pokémon or what? What do you guys think?

They sound like Contest gimmicks, if you notice each one of them represents the 5 different Contest categories. I don't think there's much more to it than that, it'd probably be too overwhelming for them to have different costumes for all 721 Pokemon in the game.

I just want to say that you're probably right but would also like to point out that they had pictures of the Pikachu in pokémon amie. That might not mean anything but it could I just want to explore all the possibilities. Also I never said anything about being able to dress up every single pokémon. And then there's the fact that all of the pictures are of pikachu. I'm not saying it isn't just a contest gimmick I'm just saying that there might be more to it then that. And when you say that there are 721 different pokémon I assume you're counting Hoopa and Volcanion even though they haven't been confirmed yet (although there's more then enough evidence that says they are real).

Oh no, the fact that you can interact with them in Pokemon Amie says that they're actual forms, but I don't think they can do anything different in battle, probably just contests.

And when you say that there are 721 different pokémon I assume you're counting Hoopa and Volcanion even though they haven't been confirmed yet (although there's more then enough evidence that says they are real).

Their existence in XY's coding is more than enough confirmation, it's just that they haven't been officially revealed yet (and they probably won't be until 2015 and 2016 respectively).

I think it's a gimmick pikachu, like spiky-eared pichu. If you look, all the outfits are feminine (except maybe the wrestler), and the pikachu are all female, possibly the same one because the tip of the tail is black.

It seems that this is exclusive to female Pikachu, and judging from the black tip of its tail, it may be a special breed of Pikachu. The main question is, will we be able to have multiple of this Pikachu breed, or just the one? Can it breed and evolve into Raichu? Does its stats differ from regular Pikachu? Is it just a regular Pikachu with the black tip just painted/dyed whatever?

Curiously, unlike Spiky-Eared Pichu and AZ's Floette, this differing form is found in-game... Interesting.

Yeah, like people above have said, the consensus seems to be that they're just Pikachu-specific forms. Creating outfits for all 721 would be a nightmare, not to mention how hard it would be to invent outfits for Spiritomb, Muk etc.

I still think she might be a particular Pikachu that's somehow got some sort of plot point, even if it's minor and just for Contests. Otherwise, I don't see the point of giving 5 different female Pikachu the same quirk of the Black-tipped, tail. Regardless, I doubt the dress up thing will be for other Pokemon or will be used outside of Contests.

I think when you win a Master Contest you are given a Pikachu in the corresponding costume, it cant evolve, and you get a boost if you enter it in your next contest. Ie the Cool Pika gets bonus points if entered in a Cool contest.

Okay let's forget about being able to dress up pokémon other than pikachu. Now the theory about getting the pikachu for completing a master contest is possible but maybe instead of obtaining a seperate pikachu each time you unlock different outfits for the one you receive the first time.

I don't think it's obtainable, but rather it's one of your opponents in each respective master rank contest.

I'm assuming that it's one pikchu owned by a contest-obsessed trainer who goes above and beyond by dressing up his/her pikachu according to whatever contest he/she is entering in, even though dressing up your pokemon is not required.

I don't believe we're going to see the dress-up aspect of contests return, but perhaps they're giving a nod to them by having an npc enter a pokemon that's dressed up according to theme.

Now, you may be saying, "But Dalek, didn't we see the player interacting with cosplaychu in pokemon amie?"
To which I say, "Correct!" Which leads me to my next observation and theory:

If you noticed, the dressed-up pikachu (again, assuming it's one pikachu) is never shown in a battle or in a contest, which leaves only one way to show it off without giving away it's unobtainable status (can't battle with a pokemon you can't get) and/or revealing contest mechanics (can't show off a competitor's pokemon in a contest without revealing tidbits of info about the contests and/or dolled-up pickachu's trainer [they announce trainer's names along with their pokemon]).

Therefore, I believe that they simply plopped the fancy pikachu in pokemon amie so they could show it off. That way they wouldn't really give anything away about contest-related gameplay, and they would be able to hype people up without immediately bumming them out because they couldn't obtain a unique pikachu.

One more thing supporting my theory that it's one single pikachu and not many is the tail, which is always female and has an identifying black mark. Unless someone magically found a field full of female pikachus with exactly matching markings, it's unlikely that this is more than one pokemon.

That's my theory anyways, :D

Edit: I re-watched the trailer, and pikachu is on stage for like a second, but there's no text and everything's dark, so it doesn't give any contest mechanics away (assuming it was contest related), so my theory still stands

Game Freak wouldn't taunt you with something that you can't obtain in some way.

I agree. That would just be an ass move on their part.

It adds flavor and functions as a mechanic for the sake of contests. There's not a super lot to discuss here.
