The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) was recently approved by an overwhelming majority of the Senate. It will place domestic terror investigations and interrogations into the hands of the military and which would open the door for trial-free, indefinite detention of anyone, including American citizens, so long as the government calls them terrorists. This law is diametrically opposed to the rights provided by the Constitution and opens the door to an effective police state.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, and I do surely hope so, but I shall post links to more articles confirming the danger.

If this true, it is our duty as Americans to make sure that this bill get burned in a fire.

And the imfamous hackers "Anonymous" give the American people a message on the bill voicing their opinions.

Yeah, I saw the Anon message, and their whole organization freaks me out, a whole "Big Brother is watching" type of group. Though, if this bill goes through be sure to visit your local gun store, it's literally going to be the US Citizens, versus the military, versus those who hate America. I hope our government isnt ignorant enough to pass this.

I believe there is a site where you can petition against this, if anybody can give a link I'll be grateful.

Oh hell no. If this passes, I'll surely leave the U.S. As a Muslim, this is one of the worst things to be thrown my way. And a shame, too; I'll be forced to leave the country I was born in out of fear.

Initial Reaction:
The bill seams to be bait for a mass civil rights lawsuit from general public

Thought Out Version:
I feal that this bill gets passed, it has the potential to lay the beginings of a police state for the United States that may eventually cause the second US Civil War between the public and the militaristic/military-minded government. Who knows what kind of short and long term repercussions that this bill will have with foriegn relations much less with the U.N.

Right now the Obama administration would veto the amendments in their current form. Here is a quote from the statement regarding military detention:
The Administration strongly objects to the military custody provision of section 1032, which
would appear to mandate military custody for a certain class of terrorism suspects. This
unnecessary, untested, and legally controversial restriction of the President's authority to defend
the Nation from terrorist threats would tie the hands of our intelligence and law enforcement
professionals. Moreover, applying this military custody requirement to individuals inside the
United States, as some Members of Congress have suggested is their intention, would raise
serious and unsettled legal questions and would be inconsistent with the fundamental American
principle that our military does not patrol our street

Obama is not going to be in office forever. It seems like the Republicans will take over; what then, of this bill? I think they'd be more keen to it .-.

We will either uphold the freedoms baked into our Constitutional Republic, or we will scrap the entire project in the name of security as we wage, endlessly, this futile, costly, and ultimately self-defeating War on Terror.

/eating popcorn.

Getting armed for a possible civil war and passing around youtube videos by masked nerds got to be the only reasonable way to go from here.

Look, I know we're probably overreacting, but really, it's a better response than just sitting there while the officials we elected mull over whether or not the military gets to become lawmaker, judge, jury, jailor, and last but not least, executioner.

Now would you please be so kind as to not make light of our situation here? This is dead serious--as you just read, some of us are even considering expatriation. I honestly think whoever drafted this bill needs a good hard slap in the face. It goes without saying that I've signed the petition, and if this does get any further, I'm looking into the costs of getting right the hell out of America.

The bolded part is what is most worrisome to me.

You actually trust our politicians not to pull something similar? I'm surprised.

Our politicians are stupid and if you've seen them debate you'd relate their antics to that of babies, but they aren't that stupid. They wouldn't do something like this, and even if they tried to it would never happen as they never can come to a conclusion on any policy.

But this is getting off-topic.

If this happens in the Netherlands, I'm gonna move to Germany, or the UK. I expect our government to do something similar, because Geert Wilders is actually pulling the strings here. Our cabinet will fall, if it refuses something Wilders wants. And I expect this to be exactly the thing Wilders wants. So I fear for the Muslim population here. If the US pulls it off, Wilders is going to try it as well.
