Ok so I wanted to pick up a copy of leaf green... so a few weeks ago I ordered a copy of it off of ebay. It took a long time to get here and when it did arrive the box looked strange, and had a 3 page manual, the cart felt a little strange. I didn't think much of it, until I put the cart in and found out the save feature didn't work... So I went to chase down the seller on ebay but his account was deleted and I got screwed out of $20.

So then I went to Amazon, and seen U.S. seller listing the game new without the box for $23, so I bought it. It came in the mail today and is ALSO a bootleg. While the save does work sometimes it seems to randomly delete my file when ever it feels like it. I left the user bad feedback and demanded a refund, but I don't have high hopes.

So for a THIRD time, I ordered the game from a chain store online, having to pay $40 for the game... even though I didn't want to pay that much its better than risking another bootleg I guess.

The moral of the story: Don't always look for the cheapest seller.

This looked pretty real to me:

Just happened me in the UK again on ebay for Leaf Green lol. Not overly fussed, was gonna use it for Dongle purposes anyway. Mine was for £10.

If your just using it for dongle I guess its ok but most people want to use it to play as well.

i know you cant look on the net, but a real tell-tale sign is to look on the back of the box at screenshots. a buddy of mine almost bought M&L Supersaga from a local flea market, only to find images of Mario Golf on the back.

all in all, you never can be too sure online, so your best bet is to go legit right away, or simply go to your local Gamestop. btw, wrong section, moving topic.

I'm pretty sure the Leafgreen I bought from Gamestop was real (for the amount I paid it better have been), but it was kind of fishy. There was a previous game on it, so I looked to see if there was anything I should salvage before I start a new game. Well the person was at the pokemon league, and his party was a level 5 Bulbasaur and 5 bad eggs.

I wasn't exactly sure what to do, so I just ignored them, transferred his legendary birds and started a new game. Could there possibly be any problem with my game?

Well, it was probably used and the previous owner was a really bad sharker.

Frankly, I prefer to buy my games from chain stores and big online stores. The older Pokemon games are too easy to make bootlegs out of (as I've experienced with my first Silver cartridge), I'd rather not risk it.

I really hate people who do this, I did the same thing with bootlegs with Leaf Green also but once I figured it out the guy asked for it to be sent back and I never got a refund

Same thing happened with my version of Crystal. Ah well. It was only $10.

I've never gotten a bootleg version of a game, I buy them used at Gamestop, never from Ebay.

It is your fault. You bought the bootlegs because you know that bootlegs are cheaper. The pirates did not include a save cartridge. That is what you get for buying hacked items for cheap.

That cartridge casing is actually that of Emerald. The color of the LeafGreen cart is a solid light green, not translucent.

Oh, no wonder it looked off. Thanks for pointing that out.

The label is also supposed to be shiny. It looks rather... plain in that photo.

You are an idiot, I just bought what was cheapest, both auctions claimed to be legit carts. If I had known they weren't legit I wouldn't have bought them.

Don't go pointing fingers before you know the facts.

Your best bet is to call ebgames or gamestop and get au sed copy from them. They have about 6 ebgames and gamestop within 15 minutes of me. There all over the place

Are you sure? My LeafGreen is translucent, and I'm 99.9% sure it's not a bootleg.

Yea im sure also. Leaf Green and Fire red is a solid green/red cream color. Emerald was a translucent green like in the picture he gave, so was ruby and sapphire. Unless they changed the packaging on later games.

Another way i can tell that game is a fake is the sticker. The sticker for all the versions were shiny and metalic looking. This one looks like a plain colord sticker to me. Even the "waves" are differant. The white swirrels on the sticker are totally diff from my copy.
