My apologies if a thread like this already exists; I've looked around but I couldn't find one. I was just wondering what your thoughts are on the new Nurse and Officer characters which will appear in Best Wishes. Do you like them, or are they the worst thing ever to happen to the anime? Do you think they are related to the Joys and the Jennys, or are they completely new characters?

Initially I was horrified that such iconic characters as Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny could be replaced, but on closer inspection, I think they could be related. The Isshu Officer is actually incredibly similar to Officer Jenny only with shorter hair, and hair length isn't something that runs in families. The Isshu Nurse's hairstyle is very similar to that of Nurse Joy's; her eyes are considerably different but they are still the same colour.

My guess is that they are related to the originals, and may even still be called Jenny and Joy in the dub. Maybe the appearance of the Officer Jennys and Nurse Joys varies in different parts of the Pokemon world, just like how the wild Pokemon differ from region to region. A different branch of the same family.

Why are people so adamant on calling them "brand new"

We don't call Ash brand new when he changes clothes, do we? He's still Ash Ketchum no matter what the animators dress him up as.

So why are people calling these characters new, when they are simply Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny, with different hairstyles and different clothes?
 
Well, their outfits have varied before, but the hair has remained pretty consistent, so that will feel a little weird. I expect they are related, though obviously more distantly.

I like NewJoy fine, but NewJenny's ultra-short hair is gonna take some getting used to...
 
I will go along with what Pokebeach suggested: They could be distant family members of the Joy/Jenny clans. It would work since Isshu is far away from other regions.
 
Too bad Brock's not in the cast anymore. He would know lol.

They're probably just Jenny's and Joy's that look different.
 
NewJenny and NewJoy are lesbians. Look at them. Just imagine what would happen if Brock tried to hit on 'em:

Brock: Oh boy oh boy oh boy! More hot chicks!
NewJenny and NewJoy *french kissing*: MmmmmmMMMmmmmMMMMMmmmm....

NewJoy looks younger and leagues better than OldJoy. NewJenny is hit-and-miss for me.

The sheer fact that the animators have decided to redesign the Joy and Jenny models much more heavily than what we saw from the OI counterparts/introduce new characters to replace them entirely has piqued my interest for the show greatly.
 
Most likely are related.

I like the new Joy, however the new Jenny looks like a butch lesbian. Short hair is not becoming of her.
 
I'm pretty sure they'll make them related somehow.

To me, the new Joys are more just an enhanced upgrade to the original, which I like. The new Jennys, heh... i'll judge further once I see more than just their face. But so far, with them looking like guys, they might as well make them Officer Jerrys.
 
I don't know if the new nurse and officer are related to Joy and Jenny, but it looks like it to me.
 
They probably aren't, since Brock's not in the main cast any more. WHY DID THEY TAKE HIM OUT!? WHY!?
 
Not releated imo. NewJoy/NewJenny and OldJoy/OldJenny don't look the same, not a bit. Yes, NewJoy has the same hair color than old one, but it doesn't make them that similar. If they were releated to old ones, they would look much more similar. Like Orange League had that one more tanned Joy there, she was clearly different from the original Joy, but still clearly Nurse Joy. And what would be the point of making New Joy/New Jenny as relatives to old ones anyway?
 
I think they're distant relatives. If they're not at all related, they might as well have changed the designs more though.

This. If they weren't related at all, I think they'd be completely different. They're probably another, distant branch of the family or something.
 
We would have probably known if Brock was still here. He stalks researches all the Jennies and Joys in the entire world, evident in several episodes.
