Hi all!~

Yes, I looked through the last 5 pages, couldn't find a similar thread. I tried to use the search button, but that never works anymore. I apologize if this thread has already been done before.

This thread is to discuss about what you'd like to see the next Pokemon region to be based on...

Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, the Sevii Islands, and Sinnoh were based on the various regions of Japan. While Unova was based (or the inspiration of) on New York City.

Since Unova is the start of a completely new area, it might be around the United States.

To the north of Unova: New York & Connecticut - least realistic since there wouldn't be an ocean in the region.
To the east of Unova: Long Island & Connecticut - Probable.
To the south of Unova: just the sea....
To the west of Unova: New Jersey - Probable

But I'd like to see a region based off Washington D.C... Or California.... Or Florida... Michigan would be nice since that's where I am from, but... It's not ideal since it has no ocean, but there are always exceptions.. :D

If GameFreak decides to pull another Unova next generation, then it'd probably take place somewhere in Europe: England, France, Germany, Italy, etc.

Australia would be pretty neat. I think it would be similar to how Hoenn was received by its fans.

There's also a slight possibility of GameFreak going back to Japan to fill up the regions left, such as Chugoku, Shikoku, and Tohoku.

But I'd like to see GameFreak continue around the United States so that Unova doesn't feel isolated.

What about you guys? :)

As I said in the Gen 6 expectations thread, the Chūbu region would be a nice region for the next Gen to be centered in. Y'know, just to fill in the gap between the Kantō and Kansai regions. :)

It'd be great if GameFreak decided to go back to Japan. But, wouldn't Unova and its Pokemon be forgotten? It'd be a standalone region. GameFreak has a tough decision to make! I'm fine with whatever region GameFreak decides to do! :D

Game Freak may have decided to move on from basing regions off Japan at this point. They could base it off otherplaces in the United States or another continent entirely. A region based on Africa would probably be really interesting, Id like to see that.

I guess. I also think that Game Freak should do a region based off of a part of each continent. They already did Asia and North America, perhaps a Denmark-like region for Europe or an island-like region based off of New Zealand for Australia and Oceania?

They reiterated that their main audience is still America, China, and Japan in the designs of the Gen V starters, so I'd expect most future regions limited to that area.

For America, I see California, Hawaii, and Washington DC as the most likely candidates since they're the regions a Japanese person will be familiar with.

For Japan, there's still Tohoku and Chūbu.

For China, I would expect they would start off with the most populated area since that's more or less what they did with New York and Tokyo. So Shangai and the surrounding regions.

I think they should go to China, perhaps after Gen VI to more or less start off like Unova with only those regional Pokemon, except they put in Arcanine in some ancient castle and its treated like Volcarona.

I'd expect we'd see a few more America-based regions just so Unova isn't in a void by itself. Personally I'd like to see a California-based region because that's where I like and it'd amuse me, but I'd be fine with anything, really.

California is what I'm expecting/actually want. Very accessible to the Japanese and rich in exploitable content.

I guess I wouldn't mind California. Europe sounds great though, maybe the France/Spain/Andorra area?

A region based off of New Zealand for Australia and Oceania?

Totally. Just make sure to put in lots of Mareeps.

I'd like to see a region based on China for the appearance and design of the buildings, to be honest.

Madagascar with it's large different ecosystems and access to water routes (much like Hoenn) would be a nice change.

Africa with its diverse climate and places. There are many exotic animals and plants in Africa, so the new Pokémon would be very original and creative. Africa is also an interesting continent, because of the fact that it consists of deserts, jungles, savannahs and cities.

Michigan would be nice since that's where I am from, but... It's not ideal since it has no ocean, but there are always exceptions.. :D

But we are surrounded by Great Lakes. Actually, the game could be designed so that the first part of the story could take place in the Lower Peninsula (maybe start near Detroit or Lansing) and the second part could involve the Upper Peninsula.

I would like to see a new region based on Australia and it's diverse ecosystem, but wouldn't mind any part of Europe or China. I think Brasil would make one heck of a region.

I want one based off of Australia. Have two or four (very large) coastal areas (about 20% of the region's landmass) where most of the people live, and make 70% of the region be between the coasts and make it include deserts, savannas, etc (and maybe a small town in the center). Then the last 10% of the region be based off Tasmania (and possibly New Zealand too).

But the Great Lakes aren't salt water. It'd be weird to have a Pokemon region without an ocean. I really like the idea of having two different parts, the Elite Four could take place in the UP. The starting town would be in southern LP. It'd be cool to have Chicago or Detroit as the big city. And maybe if they decide to go big enough to cover the whole Great Lakes area, maybe we'll have Toronto as well! :D

My guesses are either Europe or Australia.
Europe is across the ocean from NYC, but closer than Japan. Assuming Gamefreak wants the Pokemon World regions placed similarly to the real world, a Europe-based region would be distinct in itself with a lot of diversity, but still somewhat relatable to Unova. It can even have numerous plane/ cruise connections to Unova. There's room for a large Fake London city, the Channel and the Mediterranean for surfing, Fake Scandinavia/ Iceland for a colder climate, opportunities for some ancient ruins, etc.

Australia is also diverse and has favorable geography. I don't have as good of an argument for it, but that's my second guess. Africa is my distant third.
