There's no way they're sticking to this whole "There are only 198 mutants in the world...". Seriously.

I give it two more years before the population is magically boosted up to a million or two through some unexplained retcon, yes. 151 Mutants is totally moronic, because with that small a number, they're not a race or a minority anymore so much as a handful of superheroes who all have the same power origins.

I love these two characters. Pixie is quite possibly the cheeriest mutant . . . ever, and she's a great change of pace. As for Anole, he's had some great moments - my favorite one where he lists every single "weird adventure" (IE - ones that don't have anything to do with the main X-men premise of mutans) the cast has ever been on - Limbo, Asgard, the Mojoverse, and the Shi'ar storylines. I was so waiting for a character to point out that stuff is totally off the wall and doesn't really fit in with the rest of the franchise . . .

I just hope they don't goth Pixie up like they did with poor Speedball - because happy characters ain't allowed in Marvel. They'll call her "Bloodwing" and she'll have to rip out people's hearts to activate her powers. . .

Speaking of "Endangered Species", there's one concept I always wished the X-books touched upon - if humanity is mutating via X-genes, shouldn't the rest of the animal kingdom also be doing the same thing? I'd like to see a storyline where animals possessing the X-genes are discovered. Not in a Krypto the Superdog/Superpet capacity or anything, but it'd be nice to see a story where say, the team is considering protecting a mutant strain of Cheetahs that run at mach 2 from hunters or trying to preserve the population of mutant invisible cows or something.

And there have been animal experiments using the x-gene in 616 as well. Predator X (sorta) is the most recent example.

The main character in the backup stories running through all the books is Beast. What's Beast doing? Trying to figure out WHY there's no x-gene anymore (scientifically, not just because Witchie said they don't exist). And, Sinister's still out there. Gaining followers. He's ALWAYS been about expanding the gene, trying to get more and more interesting mutations.

Plus we have Quicksilver's ability to re-power mutants. Only been about a year and a half since there were "no more mutants" and we have several outs already set up.

I think they're done screwing characters in that manner. Plus they're bringing in Skottie Young to do the art. He doesn't exactly scream "dark." Though his Hellion looks pure evil. And X-23 looks ultra-goth (sorta makes sense).

That style looks like a cross between traditional Marvel art and the Teen Titans animated series. Very strange. Not bad, just weird.

His Helion looks way too much like a Young Magneto. I get the whole point of the character has become "what if Magneto was a teenager at Xavier's", but that drawing is a bit too on the nose for that, I think.

My biggest problem with New X-men in the past 3 years is that the artist change too much. They've gone through like 3 or 4 different artists, each with vastly different styles, and it's really been muddling up the tone of the book. One month it'll be drawn realistically, then cartoony, then a blend, then like a manga. It's one of the reasons I actually stopped reading it, I just got fed up with the revolving door artists and creative teams.

Pretty sure not - at the beginning of Return of the King, the Brotherhood mentions that they liberated evolved animals (including the one who plotted Magneto's liberation) and Magneto promply slaughter one because evolved simians isn't what the Brotherhood should be above.

He did the New Warriors mini-series. He's a great artist, I'm just not a big fan of such cartoony art in a somewhat serious book. But I'm certainly not going to stop buying because of it.

Well, the current writers are staying for quite a while (they're also the guys behind the X-Men: Evolution series, hence X-23's prominence). As for the artists...I can't assure you of anything. Though Skottie Young's getting a lot of attention, so I doubt it'll just be for one arc.

I think a mini-series where Beast, Quicksilver, and Mr Sinister team up to restore the depowered mutants while everyone is trying to kill them would be pretty awesome . . . heh.

I don't think the New X-Men artist changing has been too bad at all since Kyle and Yost took over. Brooks was supposed to be the ongoing but couldn't keep up, so Medina took over and he's been the ongoing penciller for the last year. Norton and Rouleux did one fill in issue each but even X-Men and Uncanny have had fill ins recently.

All the stuff coming up in X-Men [HASHTAG]#200[/HASHTAG] has me pretty worried!
