When I look at you
I see the story in your eyes
When we’re dancing
The night begins to shine
Ey first heard his name while setting up for eir band’s gig at L’Harmonie.
“Hey, isn’t that the Champion of this year’s Martial Arts Invitational?”
“Joe? Dude, I don’t think I’ve ever seen his type around this dingy old place.”
“Yeah. I feel like they only exist in the ring or on stage or whatever.”
Who was having the conversation, and what the rest of it was about, Ziggy didn’t remember. All ey remember was seeing him in person, face-to-face, during the set. Ey almost got lost in the storm of emotions in his eyes—pain, confusion, sadness, curiosity, wonder, hope. It was like learning everything about him and being left with a million questions all at once. In that moment, Ziggy playing the music and Joe listening, it felt like the forces of rhythm were parting the sea of cosmic dust, parting space and time so they could be together. Like there was nothing but Ziggy, Joe, and the music.
Long after the set was over, Ziggy was still caught in that trance. The only thing on eir mind was Joe. Ey needed to find him to decode all those emotions, that whole story that had been in his eyes.
