Introducing… Wii.

As in "we."

While the code-name "Revolution" expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.

Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.

Wii will put people more in touch with their games… and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?

Wii sounds like "we," which emphasises this console is for everyone.

Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.

Wii has a distinctive "ii" spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play.

And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd.

So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you.

Because, it’s really not about you or me.

It’s about Wii.

And together, Wii will change everything.

.... Fucking Morons.

After this, they'll release the new Nintendo Compact Wii, so the origional will be called the Classic Wii. The wii will come in a variety of colours too, what colour is your wii?

LOL... Wii is a like a childish name. I liked Revolution better than the new name. =/

I guess we will get used to it. =p

You know, this kinda reminds me of this flash (mildly not safe for work)
You know, the gonads and strife flash.

Horrible horrible pun on the 'Wii' I know, but I dislike the fact
people are being turned off on this so fast. I really hope it
doesn't hurt Nintendo's image.

I guess, nobody really expected any name change and then bam
Nintendo lays down -the wii- and everyone's confused.

Wii not take a crazy chance?

Oh well, a Revolution by any other name is still a Revolution.

The name sounds...retarded right now. I guess we have to get used to it, and it has to stick to us for a while until it just becomes...known as Wii.

Though...eh...You have to agree that this is one of the weirdest names for a Nintendo console. :x

NES
SNES
N64
Gamecube
Wii

Being monosyllabic without a clear pronunciation for those not in the know won't help matters. This will take some getting used to.

So the Revolution is going to be called the Wii?

...twitch.. sob.. twitch.

Gah. I already keep pronounching this as "why". Wii couldn't they have had a clearer spelling?

(I can understand the choice to spell it like that but it seriously backfired.)

Backfired badly. Having marketing training myself, I can't believe they've made such a basic error. "Wii" has *very* bad connotations in Europe and Oceania (it's basically a child's way of saying "urine" in England, Australia and New Zealand, and has just as bad meanings elsewhere), to the point where it *will* impact on the purchase of the console.

NO-ONE is going to go into GAME and ask for a Wii.

You'd get horribly stupid looks from everyone. I really, really, hope to God Nintendo gets so berrated over this at E3 that they change it the way the PS3 controller was changed.

Makes me think of that little kids' rhyme that ends with "and this little piggy went wee, wee, wee, all the way home."

Wii isn't a very good name. Noone would want to game on a wii because it would be too childish.

And also, do you like realize the simularity to Intel's Viiv...

To sum it up in a single word : Urgh.

And wee has the same meaning here in the US, Archaic.

Man, when I saw that name the first thing that came to my mind was "Wii? Come on, that's what I do in the toilet!" On the other hand, the name does look simmilar to Wifi, personally I think the name would be better if it was pronounced "why" like Wifi.
