Yes i know i'm starting this thread too damn early (it's 31st March still as I write this introduction) but it's now April 1st in Japan and ye all now what that means!

The Pokémon anime series is now officially 20 years old, hoorah!
the-michael-rosen-rave-cut-o.gif

As we all know April 1st 1997 was the very exact date that the Pokémon anime started (Americans didn't see the first episode until September 8th 1998). Pokémon, I Choose You was such an iconic episode and from here on, the series has grown and grown from characters to the animation quality. We've gone to many regions and we all have our favourites!

There's been some great episodes and some stinkers too but put that all aside and Pokémon has been a wonderful series and i'm truly glad to be part of such a wonderful community.

So now that the series is 20 years old it's time to celebrate with a very special thread The 20th Anniversary Thread or as I like to call it The (Noice) 20th Anniversary Thread Spectacular.

Here you can put any memories you have of the anime whether it's a marvellous and groundbreaking battle and the animators who put all their hard work and effort into making the show possible to your favourite characters and showing merchandise too!

This is a very special thread, not just to celebrate 20 years of the anime but also everyone who has loved the series too.

Without further ado, enjoy!

Firsytly, I am glad that I will be the first one who will answer here. 20 Anibāsarī hontōni omedetō gozaimasu, which means that really Congratulation for completing 20 years anniversary.

I remember when I always hope for the best channel for us when I was child which means before 18 years to 20 years, I always hoped that they put Pokemon, but they never didn't at all, but now I can see it, and i completed the entire episodes, and movies; so 20 Anibāsarī hontōni omedetō gozaimasu

Really adorable picture

Thought I should post this here. Here are some pictures from a magazine from 1997, promoting the start of the Pokemon anime, and it shows that Professor Oak was going to originally have brown hair and Team Rocket were going to have mainly black outfits.

Rica Matsumoto hasn't changed much in 20 years, but then she looked much older than her real age (28) to begin with.

I find it poor taste that we're still waiting for proper movie information when the anniversary is just about over in Japan.

I'm currently watching the entire anime one episode per day in order of release/air date in Japan. I'm also including films, shorts, and specials. I'm on DP124. I started in July 2015. I honestly didn't think I'd get this far, but I'm going to see it through.

The anime is one of the driving factors for my love of Pokemon, as I watched it religiously when I was a kid. I remember watching the first three movies in theaters, and getting the promo Entei and Ancient Mew cards. Another thing about the movies I've grown to appreciate is the background/environment art. I wouldn't mind hanging up a few frames from them.

One of my favorite battles from the anime was when Ash's Charizard went up against Harrison's Blaziken, and when I watched it again I realized why Ash lost to Blaziken specifically. It was to promote Blaziken, which now makes me look at Ash's battles against new Pokemon in a different light. (Took me a while to realize this). I'm looking forward to watching the battles in XY.

Other favorite moments of mine include Charizard finally obeying Ash, Ash beating Gary, Ash vs Alain in the finals, Ash's Bulbasaur using Solar Beam for the first time, and most evolutions.

Love it or hate it, it's impressive that it's gone on for 20 years.

Well I'm pretty new to this forum but yeah I love Pokémon anime. I've been watching the the first season and it's amazing:)
Happy 20 years of Pokémon:D

I love the Pokemon anime. While a lot of fans got their start through the games, I started with the anime. I still remember watching Pikachu's Goodbye, how sad I felt even with only limited knowledge of the characters and how I was hooked right after finishing it. I might have still become a fan by playing the games, but I don't know if I would have been interested in them as quickly as I was without watching the show first.

It does have its fair share of flaws, but I still enjoy watching the various series. I have most of them on DVD and I usually watch an episode every day. It's fun, I like most of the characters, the battles are pretty good and I like seeing the different directions the show goes from the games. Plus, there's a bit of reassurance and comfort knowing that despite so many things changing around me throughout my life, I can still watch new Pokemon episodes. It helped me to make friends and gave me so much happiness in my life. I'm not sure what I would have done if I didn't become a fan of the anime and eventually the whole franchise. It impressive that it has lasted for so long and I hope to see it keep going for many years to come.

Okay... let's remember everything!!
My most fondly remembered moments in the anime are mostly evolutions, specially those of-:
Staraptor
Infernape
Torterra
(I cannot recall the rest, will try to fill the list later)
The best part of the anime to the younger me was the evolution animations! How nice to see your Pokemon all grown up!!

Bulbasaur's Mysterious Garden was the first episode which I watched over YouTube (I watched my Regional dub before that).
I remember, during Staraptor's evolution, the younger me was posing as if throwing a Pokeball, and I hurt myself in the process.
I was disinterested in cards, but one of my first memories of Pokemon belong to two miscellaneous Pokemon cards- Raichu and Meowth.
