Hello Everynyan!
As you no doubt know by now, the Nintendo 3DS remake titles Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire have re-introduced one of the most loved features of the original game, but with a significant revamp. Secret Bases are back, but with the trendy new name Super Secret Bases!
This is basically a thread for people to ask any questions they might have about Super Secret Bases, as well as a place for people to share their QR Codes. When sharing, make sure to let people know where your Super Secret Base is, as that will no doubt save a lot of time!
To kick things off, here is the QR Code for my Super Secret Base on Route 127:
That's all well and good, but what is a Super Secret Base anyway?
A Super Secret Base is your own personal space, sort of like a den that you might have made in the garden as a child. You can decorate this space with a variety of different items such as plush toys, posters, ornaments and even traps that you can obtain as you play through the game. You can also visit the Super Secret Bases made by friends or people you pass-by using the 3DS' StreetPass feature, where you can battle them and steal their Base's flag, thus helping you increase your Secret Base levl.
But how do I make a Super Secret Base?
Google it, you lazy Swinub. Wait, I mean...
During your journey across the Hoenn region, you would have likely came across areas that looked a little odd like trees or bushes with extra vines hanging out or cave walls with indents in them. After obtaining TM94 Secret Power from Aarune in Route 111 and teaching it to a Pokémon in your party, you will be able to use the move on those locations, allowing you to access a small, special enclosed space. You can then choose to make this enclosed space your Super Secret Base.
So now I have this empty Super Secret Base. How do I jazz it up?
Darlin', you look pretty already! Oh wait, this is about Super Secret Bases isn't it?...Eww honey, this is gonna need some work!
An empty Super Secret Base is a sad Super Secret Base, but making it happy is easy! The best place to procure decor for your home away home is without a doubt the Lilycove Department Store, which has an expanded rooftop range on Saturdays!
The Slateport City market also has a couple of stalls with more limited, but exclusive selections. The Secret Base Guild in Fortree City also has a selection of furniture on sale.
Those three cover how to obtain the vast majority of Super Secret Base decorations, but there are a few that you can only obtain from NPCs throughout the Hoenn region; with the most notable examples being the former owner of the Game Corner who will give you Treecko, Torchic and Mudkip dolls, as well as the GameFreak Director in Lilycove City, who will give you certificates to display in your Super Secret Base upon showing him completed Hoenn and National Pokédexes.
Neat! So I've decorated my Super Secret Base, but now what do I do with it?
Leave it to marinade overnight in the sauce we prepared earlier on in the recipe, before putting in the oven at 200 degrees celcius for approximately 40 minutes. Oh wait, this isn't the cooking guide is it?
Once you have decorated your Super Secret Base to your taste, the main thing you will want to do is obvious: show it off to everyone! There are two ways that you can do this: by enabling your copy of Pokémon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire to use the StreetPass feature and passing other players while your systems are in sleep mode, or by creating a QR code and sharing it with your friends.
Regardless of the method you choose, your Super Secret Base will be added to the Hoenn region map of the recipient, allowing them to visit your Super Secret Base. Likewise, if you pass-by any other players or scan in a friend's QR code, you will be able to visit their Super Secret Bases as well.
That sounds pretty cool, but what is there to do in a friend's Super Secret Base?
Look, do I have to handhold you throughout this entire thing? Urgh, fine then!
The first thing you will want to do when entering someone else's Super Secret Base, is steal their flag. Capturing as many flags as you can will lead to your Secret Base Rank increasing, which can unlock a variety of bonuses:
That might sound like a lofty goal, but if you visit a Secret Pal's base and talk to that person, they will give you an amount of flags equal to the number of flags that they have previously collected (with a maximum of 30).
Wait, you're going too fast! What are Special Skills?
When you visit somebody's Super Secret Base, you can ask them to be your "Secret Pal". That person will then take residence in your Super Secret Base and can be battled once a day (with their team being the one in their party at the time of obtaining their Secret Base). Once a day, you can also ask a Secret Pal to use a "Special Skill", which can range from giving you an item or helping to raise various attributes of your Pokémon, to even making it easier to hatch eggs.
The full list of Special Skills is as follows:
That's neat! But how do I make my QR Code anyway?
Now you're just being silly - that one's easy!
In order to create a QR Code, all you need to do is visit your Super Secret Base and access the Secret PC. Go to "Manage QR Code Patterns", then select "Share a Secret Base" and "Save to SD Card". Then all you need to do is pop the SD Card out of your system, put it into your computer and upload to a website like Tinypic. Once that's done, all that's left is to send links of your uploaded QR code to your friends!
The "Manage QR Code Patterns" menu option is also used to read another person's QR Code.
What about those special Super Secret Bases I've heard about?
Who told you about them?!
There is a house in Mossdeep City with a mysterious door at the back of its only room, which in the original Pokémon Ruby Version and Pokémon Sapphire Version games was used alongside the eReader peripheral to allow players to battle special opponents. In the remakes however, this location is used for the Super Secret Bases of special people who were involved in the development of the games in some way. It's worth mentioning though that scanning a second code will erase the Super Secret Base of the first, due to them all being in the same location.
Here are three special Super Secret Bases belonging to Junichi Masuda (series director), Shigeru Ohmori (game director) and Shigeki Morimoto (battle director, Pokémon designer):
Misc.
People looking to level-grind might find this useful: a series of Secret Bases all containing Blissey!

- Bronze Rank (30 flags collected): Secret Pals are given an additional Special Skill and the decoration store in Fortree City gains more stock. Also, you will receive a blackboard that you can place in your Super Secret Base.
- Silver Rank (100 flags collected): Secret Pals are given a third additional Special Skill, even more decorations get added to the Fortree City decoration store and you receive a Jukebox for your Super Secret Base.
- Gold Rank (500 flags collected): Your Secret Pals gain a fourth skill and a photo of your team will be taken and saved onto your SD card. Also, you will receive the Mood Lightning decoration for your Super Secret Base.
- Platinum Rank (1000 flags collected): If you reach this mighty goal, your reward will be the ability to use a Special Skill twice in one day, a Confetti Ball for your Super Secret Base and the Garchompite Mega Stone!
That might sound like a lofty goal, but if you visit a Secret Pal's base and talk to that person, they will give you an amount of flags equal to the number of flags that they have previously collected (with a maximum of 30).
