I'm surprised no one has ever discussed this before. Well it's just something that's been bothering me since there seems to be no information regarding this on the Wiki.

Blue-haired woman was Miranda who appeared in the movie in itself, and that's obviously Misty who bears her GSC hairstyle to portray an older look. The little girl is speculated to be her child (which some claim is definitely hers because she resembles Daisy) with an unidentified father.

So the description in the link is pretty self-explanatory, saying that the first movie was intended to be a finale told in the form of a flashback...but...obviously that didn't happen.

Yeah, I guess that trailer was before they decided to continue the anime past Kanto, since the actual movie included Donphan at the beginning.

Would have been interesting to see how it was originally planned to end, like if that was really Misty and Ash's kid, Ash becoming a Pokemon master right after Kanto, etc.
