I actually read in a textbook that the point of the original Star Wars was that the line between good and evil is really not as thick as most had believed. Now, if you ask me, I'd argue that the point of the original series is that the line between good and bad, as well as reality and delusion, is not as definite as most had believed; (as well as to teach us to hate ourselves for being White).

In summation, the original series is about childhood and individualism vs. collectivism; the Advanced series about adolescence and romance; and DP's about adulthood and Confucianism vs. Legalism.

Sound off!

uhm........ it's mainly about good fighting loser bad guys

i don't think advance was romance just hints dp is about legends

It's about Nintendo getting money.

Its about evil guys following a kid around to try and take his pikachu.

Aside from some minor themes regarding the villains-of-the-generation that's rarely touched upon, the theme of the franchise as a whole as always been about the value of determination and friendship.

Just like 90% of other shonen series :P

I'd say you're either overlooking things or just pulling something out of thin air. The series is meant to promote the games and basically nothing more (this means the whole series).

lolwut

The game is made in Japan, by Game Freak. Game Freak is owned by Nintendo. Japan is not a company, it is a country.

This post made my day =).

On topic: I think the whole point is that kids can watch the story of a kid (Ash) travelling across the land, searching for far and wide for pokemon and pokemon battles. He then meets up with many different people, and some of them even join him on his journey. After a few years (irl timeline wise), he enters a tournament which tests the best of the best. He usually loses. Rinse, wash, repeat.

On another opinion: money, money, money, and oh yeah argent (french for money)

The point is to be the very best, like no one ever was.
To catch them is the real test, to train them is the cause.
Traveling across the land, searching far and wide, to understand each Pokémon and the power that's inside.

I can't be bothered to take this joke any further. It's all one commercial.
