Apparently, Nintendo (or Pokémon USA or The Pokémon Company if they existed then) gave out a rare commercial (=limited number of movies having it or something) whole ten years ago about Pokémon, commercials that have largely remained unknown to this day. This commercial, wich I recently found on YouTube

And the things you didn't know:
*Ash has an aunt named Hillary
*Ash has two cousins named Trey and Troy
*The anime Pokémon world is linked to the real world
*The canons are linked to each other
*One of Ash's former teachers is named Mr. Carslon.
*Misty's best friend is named Amy
*Pikachu were choosen to be the official Pokémon-mascot, before any popularity.

And also, we can hardly confirm this ain't canon since it's an official commerical made by Nintendo/Pokémon USA/Game Freak/The Pokémon Company. On the other way, the commercial haven't been shown so much apparently and no mention of this have been later, so it's best to discuss about it before anyone post anything about it on Bulbapedia.
 
This is very old and circulated around the net about a year ago, but the videos were removed. Thank you for finding them again! I wanted to watch them the other day.

Didn't they say " A world of magic at your command."? Just wondering. This may be why a bunch of christians were aginest the show.

Christians were against it b/c the whole evolution thing. Plus Kadabra and Alakazam were based off some anti-christian guy. Some people also believe it sent subliminal demonic messages to kids.

They're based off Uri Geller. Some magician who bended spoons with his mind. Christians may have seen that as demonic or black magic.

A VHS containing the commercial was sent out by mail to random people. I know this because one of the families I used to baby-sit for had it. I've seen this many times because back then one of the boys in that family was obsessed with Pokemon. I haven't seen the commercial since I last baby-sat for that family. So it's amusing to watch it again after at least six years. X)
 
I hardly can call anything in this commercial to be canon. This commercial were obviously done for USA and in USA. Most likely done by 4Kids. It was fun to watch it though.
BTW,
did anyone else notice that in the battle against Pidgeotto, Veronica Taylor pronounces Pikachu's name the same way Sarah Natocheny do it now?
(I've bet Lisa will kill me for mention this :XD: )

Anyways, like peno said, nothing in that video can be considered canon. At most, it's canon with the English dub, but even *that's* a stretch.

That was completely uncalled for, Dogasu. Really, I'm getting sort of tired of you going after Lisa like that, and it's really sad you're a mod here and carrying on another poster's rude comment. Please stop picking on people you don't even know (and before you ask, yes, I DO know her, and I'm quite close to her.) Honestly, we wave our "better than SPP" flag here all the time and yet some of the mods are no better than the average poster there. Go ahead and infract me if you want but I'm not going to sit around and keep letting you say things about my friends without saying anything about it myself. I mean, she hasn't even posted here yet.

Is this the tape with all the stock art on it? Because if it does, I might have it. Holy crap. I need to watch this.

Sounds like "Aunt Hillary" is dubbed and or played by Veronica Taylor.

It does bring up several questions though...

What should count as Canon and what shouldn't.

If these promotional videos could be counted as canon, does this apply to the Learning League as well?

What about the Japanese CD dramas? I haven't heard a single thing about Mondo or Giovanni's mother or Jessie's mother aside from there. What about Colosseum/XD? The anime exclusive Orange Islands? Mystery Dungeon? Snap? Rangers only seem to get mentioned when a new Ranger game is released...
 
I know that these videos aren't canon because I'm positive Satoshi hasn't mentioned his Hilary Obachan ever.

Dogasu, I have to agree with Neku and Blackjack Palazzo. Just because you disagree with Lisa, doesn't mean you have the right to attack her for it. Has she ever attacked you for your opinion? No, obviously. She has the right to have her opinion just as much as you do.

Lisa is a good friend of mine and I hate to see you attack her for just disagreeing with her all of the time. Just because you don't think there is a difference between the 4kids dub and the PUSA dub, doesn't mean she HAS to agree with you. And I'm really tired of seeing a mod act this way.

I'm positive that the Orange Islands are canon.

I fail to see how that matters. There's tons of things in the games that aren't covered in the anime.

The Orange Islands were the setting for a whole season of the anime and one movie.

But isn't it funny how the Orange Islands haven't been mentioned much at all?

The only clues to their existence that are mentioned now and again post-Jotho are Tracey and Ash's orange islands captures (Snorlax and Lapras)

Badges? no references to them, winning the Orange Cup? only got mentioned once.

They only added the Orange Islands in the first place because they used up all the RBY plot but GS wasn't going to be released for a long while (years) and need something to bridge the gap.

I'm sorry, I also don't see Ash running around going like, " Hey you guys, remember that time I won the Volcano badge from Blaine?" Is that not canon, either? How often is he supposed to gloat about his past victories to have them count?

So? If the second season of the anime isn't canon, then what is it? Just because it doesn't have it's own game to go along with it or didn't happen in a game doesn't mean it's not canon. It's filler. By your logic, almost every episode ever that didn't have a gym battle in it isn't canon, either.
