Based on what we know so far, it seems these Pokemon aren't being used in the Sinnoh league:

1. Sceptile (Ash's most powerful grass type arguably)
2. Swellow (Ash's most powerful bird, arguably)

3. Bulbasaur
4. Squirtle
5. Charizard

6. Tauros
7. Kingler

Those 7 seem totally absent.

I really do not understand why Kingler didn't come back, as it hasn't been used in over 8 years since 2002. Its Ash's most neglected Pokemon ever.

Tauros was recently (depends on your view of recent), used against Anabel in Battle Frontier.

The Kanto starters are shockingly absent this time around, and Ash's extremely powerful and fan-favorite Sceptile and Swellow aren't seen.

Why do you think the writers are excluding some of Ash's most popular and well-liked Pokemon?

Only Heracross is a surprise. There no Gliscor.

Gliscor is in the Paul match, as seen in the preview pics.

I just wonder what the writers justification for leaving out Sceptile and Swellow are. They along with Corphish were some of Ash's most popular Pokemon of the series.

Which preview pics? It's not confirmed yet for sure it is a Gliscor. For now, this thread is just useless.

It's not a Gliscor. It's a Staraptor.

Are you kidding? Everyone in that thread agrees its Gliscor, and we zoomed in on the pic and you can make out Gliscor's features and X-scissor being the attack, which only Ash's Gliscor knows.

Me and a lot of others called this... I told you long ago that Ash will use the Johto mascots and that he won't use the Kanto/Hoenn mascots... a few others agreed with me on this
So no, it's not shocking... it's shocking to YOU because you're stuck in the past and someone should give you a slap in the face to wake you up

and Ash's extremely powerful

There's no strong/weak or stronger/weaker or strongest/weakest, just no
There are writers who constantly play with Pokémon's strength to fit what they like them to be at the moment

and fan-favorite

No, you mean YOUR favorites
There's no such thing as "fan favorites"
Most of the target audience likes what's new and advertised to them currently, and now that's DPt/HGSS
So yeah... stfu with your made up "facts"

Why do you think the writers are excluding some of Ash's most popular and well-liked Pokemon that are just as important/loved as the others?

Fixed, and that's obviously for these reasons:
1. Advertising reasons
2. Redeeming characters who need and deserve it
3. Stop overusing characters who are way too overused

Now, you'll cry and say "but every saga ends with Kanto trio!!!11111"
As I explained 6532563 times before, I'll explain you again:
Kanto/Orange- gen 1 was the only gen
Johto - was the first time of trying a new gen, both anime and games had some problems with this and relied too much on gen 1
Hoenn/BF - the purpose was to advertise RSE and FRLG and also the 10th anniversary, so they used gen 1 and gen 3 mostly and ignored gen 2 mascots
Sinnoh - the purpose is to advertise DPt/HGSS and Johto's 10th anniversary, so they're using mainly gen 2/4 Poké and ignore the gen 1/3 mascots

You sure didn't have any problem with AG excluding some Poké, so stfu now that your favorites weren't used - other fans had to suffer previous series, now it's your turn

That really doesn't justify why Ash is using 3 Hoenn Pokemon though. They aren't shafting Hoenn at all besides two Pokemon.

You're missing Piplup's point about contrasting standalone Pokémon with generational mascots. Not only that, but Corphish is unlikely to be used in the same battle as Totodile, so it will probably get the same treatment as Snorlax did in the recent episode - being skimmed over just to show that Ash won the Top 8 round. I can easily see the same thing happening with Torkoal; they can show the conclusion of its battle in a still frame to make room for Quilava in the last battle.

Glalie is the only Hoenn Pokémon that deserves to be used again (like Heracross and Donphan in AG), due to being underused. But because of its streak of wins in the Hoenn League, it may very well end up losing.

Then why bother to bring them back at all?

There's no reason to bring Pokemon back to get still-screen battles. As we can see, Kingler/Tauros likely won't appear at all. So the writers bringing something back should have meaning to it, not a still-screen.

Snorlax I can understand as Ash didn't mean to send for it, and it had plenty of screentime in the past.

It is honestly better than nothing. At any rate, do you really think Ash will use Totodile and Corphish in the same battle? Besides, Corphish is just as overused as Snorlax is.

I don't mind Corphish gettting a short 10 second scene.

But Torkoal needs as much screentime as Glalie and the Johto team.

Torkoal lost that privilege when it was brought back to battle Registeel. Using it over Quilava, whose battle was cut, would be a mistake.

You honestly think Torkoal won't get a lot of screentime?

This entire league, aside from the Sinnoh team, is being used to, "redeem" Ash's underused and short-lived Pokemon, which is what Torkoal is.

Again, Torkoal got that redemption when it was brought back the last time, but Quilava hasn't had its moment to shine yet. To say nothing of the fact that Quilava has more to offer due to being recently evolved and knowing Eruption...

If Paul match is full Sinnoh pokemon, then we only have six places for Johto + Hoenn + Kanto pokemons in LT match.

???

You're saying both can't happen?
