Nintendo announces iPhone, Android app: TCG-based game to be available this summer

Nintendo has plans to release an app for the iTunes and Android markets in Japan this summer. Pokémon Say Tap, a TCG-based game, will be available for free download.

Here's my personal response to this in video form: Pokémon iPhone/Android game announced!

Personally I find it rather insulting that this is happening in the midst of fans begging Nintendo to release already completed games ON THEIR OWN SYSTEMS, and while the 3DS eShop, in spite of being barren of 3DS downloadable content, actually has more CATEGORIES of games to shop for than they are actual 3DS titles to choose from.

A TGC based game is a no brainer for the 3DS eShop or even a full fledged retail game, but as it stands the 3DS's web browser can't even visit the Pokémon TGC Trainer Challenge website, or even the Pokemon Global Link.

I know this will ultimately just be an interactive commercial, but still....

Excuse me for a second........AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

This is just awesome, being able to do TCG from my phone is great. It's even better if you can play people who have the app in your contacts.

NOOO! WHY AM I STUCK WITH WINMO6? AHHHH

I should have bought an android phone instead...for this

Next on the list of expensive things I want one day: Japanese iPhone. :<

This looks like fun though!

Read it again, you can't play the ACTUAL TCG on it, it merely features cards FROM it.

When I first saw this post, I thought it would be a Pokedex 3D for the iphone or whatever after all of those numerous attempts of fan-made Pokedex apps. I was wrong.

Oh.......well a Pokemon Gutair Hero is almost as good.

Games that would make me buy games sooner:

Pokemon TCG 3DS

Even though it has very little 3D potential itself.

I wonder how much of their target audience actually owns an iPhone.

Re: Nintendo announces iPhone, Android app: TCG-based game to be available this summe

Read IGN's article about this. The app is being produced by The Pokémon Company; Nintendo has no involvement in it.

Re: Nintendo announces iPhone, Android app: TCG-based game to be available this summe

Pretty sure the Pokemon Company was formed to handle merchandising and is part owned by both Nintendo and Game Freak, so you can't really say Nintendo had no say in what one of its cash cow franchises do.

Re: Nintendo announces iPhone, Android app: TCG-based game to be available this summe

Reread.

According to a Bloomberg report, Nintendo stated that Pokemon Company is a separate entity, free to make its own business decisions. The company added that there are "no plans for a change" regarding supporting outside platforms with Nintendo-produced content.

Re: Nintendo announces iPhone, Android app: TCG-based game to be available this summe

Don't really understand where I was supposed to 'reread' that from considering you didn't link to anything and the Bulbanews article didn't mention that.

Not really sure if 'read' was in past tense, being that you 'read' the article, or if you were telling people to read, but here's some advice, if you're telling people to go read an article, common sense dictates providing a link.

Sounds interesting but i do not own a smart phone of any kind and have no plans on buying one seems to much like a gimmick for a cell phone.

I know it's great for you people who play the card game, but every single time something looks cool to me it turns out to be the TGC (屮゚Д゚)屮

...sigh... Either way, the article on Bulbanews is inaccurate and misleading.

This, combined with comments on Junichi Masuda's blog regarding the PlayStation Vita, are making me wonder if all is well in TPC and Nintendo's relationship...of course, the point I mentioned is probably just good business practice.

Although with this...they could easily have made it for the DSi or 3DS; was there any need for them to go iPhone and Android - especially as the former is owned by one of Nintendo's biggest rivals atm? (Nintendo has constantly been talking about Apple, and more specifically, the Apple Store, for the last couple of years).

As TPCi can legally act as it's own entity, but it still owned by GameFreak and Nintendo, doesn't that mean that Nintendo can receive royalties from games on other consoles? Thus, this could be seen as the start of a rather aggressive business strategy.

I remember reading that following this game's announcements, Nintendo's stock rose until they later reaffirmed that they have no plans to enter the phone market.

Nintendo announces new platform that Developers are going nuts over: stocks drop

Nintendo (or at least some entity very closely tied with them) announces a new game on a COMPETING platform: stocks up up!

Nintendo clarifies that this doesen't mean they're going to become third party developers of Nintendo titles on Smartphones: stocks drop

we now know how clever people who approach Nintendo thinking only about money really are.

Re: Nintendo announces iPhone, Android app: TCG-based game to be available this summe

People are acting as if this is the first time that Pokémon software has appeared on non-Nintendo hardware. It's just the latest in a very VERY long line.

The fact that people are saying it's Nintendo is another thing annoying me. It's developed by another company (which one, I don't know) and LICENSED by The Pokémon Company. The Pokémon Company is an affiliate company of Nintendo, essentially being owned by it, but running seperately yes.

There is also nothing wrong with the relationship between Nintendo and GameFreak. Plus, even if there was, Nintendo owns 33% of the franchise. Creatures owns 33% of the franchise. Nintendo owns Creatures therefore Nintendo owns 66% of the franchise. Nothing will change. The true games shall remain on Nintendo platforms until Nintendo goes insane and decides to sell off their shares in the most financially lucrative video game franchise of all time. Like that will ever happen.

This entire thing with the app has been a massive over-reaction by everyone and it makes me facepalm constantly

It all comes with being part of the fandom; over-reacting is a part of the fun =3 (WHAT?! 2 Episodes were skipped - Anime is going to be OVA!!!).

I knew Creatures Inc had a pretty high stake (Wasn't that one of the conditions of Creatures helping Game Freak avoid bankrupcy during RG development?); I just didn't know how much of a share they had.

This, combined with comments on Junichi Masuda's blog regarding the PlayStation Vita,

What'd he say?

Don't know why they shouldn't, its a good place to put all their shovelware or even some 3DSware games minus the 3D.

EDIT: I also hope Serebii isn't talking about this forum only because there's like a total of two people going around how its the end of the world, and other people disappointed that its not a better game, and the rest wanting it.
