Last year on my 21st birthday, I decided to invite 19 of my closest friends to a private party where I may enjoy my first beer. At that 21st birthday I challenged my 19 friends in a game. Playing the role as The Riddler I gave them seven riddles, each revolving around on of the Seven Deadly Sins. If they were to solve all seven of those riddles then they'll win challenge and get an ample reward.
The way it works is that each riddle they solve leads them to the location of the next riddle. For example, the Lust Riddle went like this:

Lust

Now I can hear the screams
of agony. Now I have come
where a great wailing beats upon me.

I reached a place mute of all light,
which bellows as the sea in tempest
tossed by conflicting winds.

The hellish squall, which never rests,
sweeps spirits in its headlong rush,
tormenting, whirls and strikes them.

Caught in that path of violence,
they shriek, weep, and lament.
Then how they curse the power of God!

976044

33

This was one of the trickier riddles that took down a lot of people. The number "976044" references the call number of a book at the local library while the number "33" represents the page number the riddle was found in. The book was about Hurricane Katrina (hence, the "tempest" mentioned in the passage). The riddle in the book was Gluttony which, assuming the players figured it out, took them to a restaurant.

Anyway, the Riddle Challenge was a smash hit and I was surprised by the amount of people that loved it and wanted me to do another one as well.

So this year I'm doing the Riddle Challenge with a Pokemon Theme to it. There will be eight riddles all in all and each of the riddles represents an elemental type in pokemon (the riddles also represent the eight gyms too).

Departing from the usual norms of yesteryear, I'm giving the players a personal pokemon as well. All of the pokemon will know two attacks that are super effective against six different types. For example, one of the players will have a Charmander that knows Ember and Shadow Claw which is super effective against Grass, Bug, Ice, Steel, Ghost and Psychic. If they are stumped at one of the riddles and are about to run out of time, they can use their partner pokemon for a free pass on it. HOWEVER, they can only use their partner if it has an attack that's super effective against the gym riddle's type. Along with that, they'll have to turn in their partner pokemon as well and only get half the amount of the reward.

My birthday is a little more than two months away but I want to give my friends a fun and inventive challenge. Because of which, I need a lot of time to prepare. So I'm asking you to help me out in coming up or throw out ideas that might jolt my brain.

So far I have these rough draft ideas:

Fire: The Fire riddle will take the players to a ceramics store where they buy a "Sun Sphere." These sun spheres I crafted before hand and have the next riddle inside their hollow insides. They'll have to smash clay sphere in order to access the next riddle.

Grass: The players have to travel through a state forest that's near my hometown in order to find the next riddle.

Ghost: A bit insensitive and macabre but what I thought about doing was that the Ghost Riddle will have five names on it with the phrase "in the center of the Pentagram is the next clue." The five names are actually people buried in a local cemetery and the players draw a pentagram that connects all five. Within the middle of it is the next riddle.

Fight: A bit too simple but what the only thing the Fight Riddle will say is "Rocky Theme." If they players know the buildings in my hometown well then they'll go to the research library and climb to the top of the entrance stars to find the next riddle.

Poison: This is more of a logic puzzle then an actual puzzle. The players are given eight bottles to choose from. A logic puzzle is given to them were each of the drinks "talk" to the players and explain confusingly which one is the innocuous drink (think Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone).

Dragon: The Dragon Riddle will state something like "Come and find me, a dragon who once ruled the lands but now rules dead." This refers to the local museum and dinosaurs.

Dark: A famous dark poem is given to the players however, key words in the poem are changed. If the players are smart, they'll compare the original poem with the changed one and see what words have been changed. They'll then take these words and see where the words will take them.

Ground: This might actually be the last one, the players are given a treasure map of a sort and they have to figure out where the reward is buried. The first one that digs it out is declared the winner.

That's all I have for now....

What do you think? Sorry you had to read so much...if you have any questions (i.e. rules of the game or whether my hometown has certain stores, shops, parks, etc.) please feel free to ask them.

Thanks for your time!

This is really more of a blog thing. Maybe a Fun and Games thing, but almost certainly a blog thing.
