The pokemon world language

Indeterminate. It depends on what region you're in; there's no single language in the Pokemon world.

^I agree. And all the media says that Unown is an ANCIENT form of writing. By seeing the signs in the anime, I assume it is some Japanese-like language.

Have you noticed the text in the anime? It's a bunch of weird blocky symbols and stuff.

(for real: to avoid complications with paint edits/dubbing)

Well, they obviously speak English, Japanese, French, Spanish, German, Dutch...

So there's your answer.

It's a game that gets translated numerous amounts of times, so I guess any language where a translator is available.

Japanese in Japan, English in America. Depends on the localization.

You guys need to start thinking outside the box.
Obviously the Pokemon games are available in a wide range of languages...
But that's not what this topic is about...
He asked what language do they speak in the Pokemon World...

They speak Japan because Japanese created them.

And I'm sure no one would make a whole new language for a game or tv show.

Lol. True true.

Overall, i would say Latin. only cause of the weird lettering and markings

I would say some sort of common language. Since it's a made-up world that is foreign to ours, I would imagine that the language is made-up and foreign to us, as in...not found in our world.

This is done often in fantasy books. The language that the people of the make-believe world speak is often made up and the characters would refer to it as "Common", "Peasant" or whatever they call it, similar to how we call ours "English", "Japanese", etc. In Lord of the Rings, I know they use "Elven", "Dwarven", etc. This way, when the book is translated, it's still able to be understood in different languages.

So I think it's the same idea. I think the creators didn't give the Pokemon world any of our languages. While yes, when I, an English-speaking person, would watch the show or read the games in English, I don't think that necessarily means the Pokemon world speaks English. They speak a made up language that is never really mentioned but we see glimpses of in their text.

I believe that there is no "one language". We have foreigners such as Fantina who don't always use Japanese in the raw games and animé.

Well about all we know is that there is more than one language in the world (as evidenced by the foreign guy in HGSS that has such difficulty talking to the player) and that if anyone does speak germanic/romantic languages, they probably don't use any alphabets derived from the phoenician alphabet (as evidenced by researchers being totally oblivious to the shapes of Unowns).

EDIT: Then again, Sylph Co.'s logo is pretty obviously a stylized 'S', so maybe those researchers are just dumb as bricks.

English in Brazil..

English in Scandinavia...

Goddamn! In America!

They probably speak all the languages we do, consider ^that guy^ and Fanatina (or what her name is)

Ever read Lord of the Rings?

And otherwise, the Pokeworld language. Possibly Japanese, or possibly a mix of Japanese and English (to explain the Engrish).

^We don't know that. In eveyr game so far, we've only ever seen Pokémon's Japan. So we don't know if everynoe speaks the same language - surely, Fantina and the Grunt in the Johto games prove it's not the same everywhere.
