So of course the new pokemon will be stealing the spotlight, but I'm sure a few people are happy that Gen VI seems to be offering up older Gen pokes in the region as well as new ones - unlike BW.

The Karos Pokédex will be separated into three areas: Central Karos Pokédex, Coastal Karos Pokédex and Mountain Karos Pokédex
Central Karos Pokédex has at least 77 Pokémon in it
Coastal Karos Pokédex has at least 51 Pokémon in it
Mountain Karos Pokédex has at least 6 Pokémon in it

Here's a list of the older Pokemon we know will be in the Kalos dex (or in some case is highly likely):

  • Bulbasaur - confirmed in September Pokemon Direct
  • Ivysaur
  • Venusaur
  • Charmander - confirmed in September Pokemon Direct

  • Espeon
  • Umbreon
  • Leafeon
  • Glaceon

Which older Pokemon are you hoping appear?

How large do you think the regional dex will be? This is including both old and new pokemon--there's a separate thread for how many new pokemon you want here. Do you think the safe 150? 200? Maybe even 300 like B2W2?

I am also estimating around about 115 new pokemon in the regional dex. If I could see some past gen pokemon, I would really like to get some of the past gen starters :D

Personally the only Pokemon I know that are confirmed to be in XY are the Chespin Family, the Fannekin Family, the Froakie Family, the Eevee Family, the Golett Family and the Tympole Family. I believe that for secretive purposes the Pokemon shown in the trailer from past gens only appeared in the battles as to show us Pokemon we are familiar with. Also I think 200 seems to be a good number for a regional dex.

I'm hoping we get excadrill and wynaut and excadrill is exclusive to x and wynaut is exclusive to y.

As long as their's a good number of each type of Pokémon in the dex, I'll be happy.

As for the number of Pokémon, I'm gonna say around 200.

I'm psyched it appears Audino's gonna be back. Those things make training so much easier.

Probably 250 or so at the very least. There's between 52 and 150 new pokemon in this gen so there are plenty of options.

Here's a list of those shown in the trailer aswell as their evolutionary relatives (though this list could change, and as such I wouldn't take them as confirmed until we get more details on XY):

  • Psyduck
  • Golduck
  • Magikarp
  • Gyarados
  • Dratini
  • Dragonair
  • Dragonite
  • Pichu
  • Pikachu
  • Raichu
  • Sneasel
  • Weavile
  • Ralts
  • Kirlia
  • Gardevoir
  • Gallade
  • Munchlax
  • Snorlax
  • Patrat
  • Watchog
  • Audino
  • Litwick
  • Lampent
  • Chandelure
  • Mienfoo
  • Mienshao
  • Golett
  • Golurk

Though this is probably just minor you missed 2 Pokémon Families. In the trailer when they show the trainer running on the bridge there is a statue on the Water the shows Eevee and Palpitoad (with Golurk and a Knight also) so probably these 2 Family Lines are possibly in the Regional Dex as well adding another 11 Pokémon

1. Eevee
2. Vaporeon
3. Jolteon
4. Flareon
5. Espeon
6. Umbreon
7. Leafeon
8. Glaceon
9. Tympole
10. Palpitoad
11. Seismitoad

I wouldn't assume any of the old Pokemon we've seen so far are in the regional dex: the game is early in development and they may have just been showing off the models they already had finished. There were also a lot of Gen V Pokemon in there, so they may simply have been keen to show off Pokemon that players would have fresh in their minds. The only one I would rate as very likely is Pikachu, given that a wild encounter was shown (and it would be downright odd to have the mascot absent two generations running).

That statue... could count as evidence, but remember that Pikachu showed up in Unova on billboards and as topiary without actually being available in those games.

Zubat line or Woobat line. That's unless they design a new Zubat for this gen...

I just hope I am able to get Gastly and evolutions.

Another two I would want are Teddiursa + Ursaring.

They also showed Pansear in the trailer leading me to believe that it and Simisear along with the other two Family Lines of Pansage and Panpour are in the game probably.

Given that its said to have "700+" Pokemon rather than rounding up to 800, I'm guessing there's gonna be around 120 max new Pokemon this gen. As for the complete dex, somewhere in the realm of 200 seems like a decent guess. B2W2 did prove that an extremely extensive dex is possible, and given the Pokemon diversity seen in the trailer, I don't think a dex of 250-300 is completely out of the realm of possibility.

The only Pokemon that I really want in the regional dex are Lillipup, Herdier and Stoutland. I'm thinking there's a pretty strong chance they'll be in there, so I'm happy.

With regards to the whole regional dex - I hope it's a mix of brand new Pokemon and Unova Pokemon. That'd tie in nicely with the fact that the region is clearly based on France/Western Europe and similarities in the Regional dex with that of Unova would work well with the whole Western culture thing.

Unova introduced lots of Kanto/Johto/Hoenn/Sinnoh Pokemon post-game and I saw that as acceptable because there is a massive Asian influence on culture in the United States. Far more so than in Western Europe.

I'd like Game Freak to keep a lot of the Pokemon (if not all) from the first 4 Gens as unavailable unless by trade in these new games. I know that's highly unlikely but I just don't want the regions to lose more and more of their identity as the Gens go on.

I think 150 (+Mythical Pokèmon) is the best size for a regional Pokèdex. Not too big, not too small. B2W2's 300 was definitely way too big. I don't think the number of new Pokèmon we'll receive will make 200 viable without there being too many old Pokèmon (I think a 2:1 or even 3:1 ratio of new to old should be used).

Hmm... depending on how many new Mons will be introduced depends on how big or small the dex will be. If they introduce, say... 125 new Pokemon, give or take, and added in roughly 75-80 old ones, then we could hit 200 pretty easily. B2W2 Unova Dex was the largest to date, with 300 (not including Keldeo, Meloetta, Victini, and Genesect), but it proved that a large dex is not impossible. It can be a lot, but it wasn't impossible to complete (as long as it's not a "gotta catch 'em all" type). So it depends. If they introduce 80-100 new Mons, then the dex will probably be pretty small, but if they introduce 100-150, then the dex could easily get pretty big. So it's hard to say, but I'll say about 200, give or take. That's a safe bet, for now, anyway.

I'm thinking 200 to 250-pokémon Regional Dex, with a handful each region. Well, I'd like more than a handful of Gen 5 Pokémon, since those are what I really want to see again.
