Howkins is a peasant boy who lived quite a while after the 'Isolation of the Flame'. At this time, just after the Third Foreign War, all machinery was beyond repair and drastically expensive.

------------Prologue------------

Arceus stared at his faint, disappearing form. No human worshipped him anymore, or believed he even existed. They were too busy with their growing war amongst themselves. But he wouldn't disappear until one last human lost their belief in him. He turned to the far east, where his candle, the Isolated Flame was.

…his desk, the ocean,
…his paper, the land,
… his candle, the deceased hero,
…his artwork, NATURE.

Arceus shifted in the Temple of Sinnoh, also known as to the humans, Spear Pillar. Arceus morphed into stone, conserving his energy. But, the Alpha Pokémon neglected the candle, which was melting and nearly at its end…

Chapter One
Howkins shook himself awake. Cobwebs stretched across the ceiling of the ancient History classroom. A hand shot up, only just whizzing just past his right cheek. Olivia, his childhood friend, bounced on the balls of her feet, perhaps the only person in the room actually interested in what the wizened old professor had to say.

"Yes, Mardew?" The professor turned his head towards Olivia Mardew, his hundred-year-old neck emitting silent cracks as it rotated.
"Could you tell us the myth of the Isolated Flame?" asked the inquisitive fourteen-year-old.
Hearing this, the whole class sat up straight. Each child was told or heard about the isolation of the flame, which was why many believed that their loss of the recent war was to the flame not showing up. Many thought the flame was a hero, and others believed it was a Pokémon. This story had not been told in a long time, which was why it was seldom known by anyone.

The professor stiffened.
"Please, Professor Hardel!"
Sorrow flickered within the Professor's eyes.
"This lesson is over. You are dismissed!" growled Hardel.
"But…" said Olivia.
"Enough of your cheek, Mardew! Please stay behind."
All of the students filed out, while Olivia stood obediently at the professor's desk. Howkins stood at the door.
"What is it, Howkins?" croaked the man.
"I'm waiting for Olivia," replied the boy.
The man sighed. " It wouldn't hurt for a second pair of ears…"

Professor Hardel began," I am one hundred and sixty this year, cursed to live until I would die at the funeral of… an old friend. I knew the Flame. The Flame was actually abandoned in the Foreign World, before returning at the age of ten. He was a great boy with a great destiny ahead of him. Nobody can prophesise something; it is up to each of us to choose our path. As he grew up, he befriended many Pokémon, travelling and becoming skilled in the art of battling of Pokémon. He went to one of the best schools. The exact one we are standing in right now."
Olivia and Howkins looked around the classroom, obviously not impressed.
"A-admittedly," stammered the professor, "This school has seen better days. I tell you, this school was comparable to a castle back in my day! The flame was a powerful trainer, eventually successfully defeating each gym leader and champion, winning each league, and soon, became the Champion! He became renowned in many regions, not because of his skill, but because of his kindness and compassion. During his travels, he was notified by the stirring of a rebellious organization who were illegally tranporting Pokémon into the outer world. He travelled through the outer world, rounding up the Pokémon, but causing upset throughout the outer world, in which became the First Foreign War. The flame did not fight in this war, but went to Ransei to ask for the aid of warriors, which was absolutely time-wasting through the years he went on campaigns to appease the whole of Ransei. Many years later, his marriage was interrupted by the Second Foreign War, the revenge of the Outer World after its defeat in the previous war. The flame was a soldier in this war, being promoted very quickly through the ranks due to his skill in strategies and fighting skill from Ransei. After the war, he married and had children. The myth of the flame, however,, comes from when he was far into his age. 'Flame' comes from his partner, the legendary Arcanine we know today."

"When he was in his late-seventies, he disappeared, causing grief to all he knew him. He disappeared from all the world. Appearances of streaks of fire have been spotted around an island in the sea, so many believe he resides there today. Some, in their attempt to find him have failed, being turned back by sudden mighty storms, presumably a Rayquaza. Mystery hangs why he is hiding there. My guess is that there is evil coming ahead…"
