'The Rise of Darkrai' to air Feb. 24: Cartoon Network hosts mentions theatrical run

Cartoon Network yesterday announced that the 10th Pokémon movie, The Rise of Darkrai, will air on the network 7 p.m. EST Feb. 24. The host mentioned that the TV premiere will come "months before it plays in theaters," but no further details were provided.

Interesting. Well this will help me out a couple of ways if this is 100% accurate. First I don't have cable and it would be nice to see a Pokemon movie in actual theaters again. But if it is a limited run I hope it won't coincide with my trip to Japan this summer. But either way its win-win.

I thought the host said, "A month before it plays in theaters" not months... but I could be wrong, which I assume I am, heh.

Nope. I rewinded that part, just to make sure I didn't hear him wrong. And the guy did say "several months before it plays in theaters".

And seriously, I was like, what's going on here? Theaters? Theaters!? O_O

There hasn't been a Pokemon movie in theaters since Pokemon Heroes. And sadly, I never got to see that movie (or Pokemon 4Ever) in the theater, thanks to Miramax's awful, limited release. If they do that again with a limited release, I will hate them!! X_X

Then again, we don't have much information on this yet, so who knows. But, if this is really true, then I'm surprised that Pokemon USA actually decided to do this. It'd be interesting if they distributed Darkrai the exact same way as Japan did, through the movie's viewing.

And another thing is that, it would be really strange for a TV channel to air a movie on cable before said movie goes to theaters. O_O (this makes me think that maybe CN got their info wrong and they just had the kid say that - but then again, why would CN mislead viewers like that? This is so confusing!)

The limited releases of of movies 4+5 probably would have worked better had PUI been more forthright about their distribution method, instead of waiting until after the first weekend to say publicly on the web site they were in limited release.

How sad it would be for Cartoon Network if there really isn't a theatrical release planned, but because of that one mistake the entire fan base is expecting one. XD

I'm more concerned about the Buizel situation. How many episodes away is America from the trade? If the movie is in several months time, it could be released after the trade has happened. A WTF moment for some fans.

There where many times in past movies where we saw stuff before it happened in the show. IE: Mays bulbasaur and Swellow evolve. Plus where up to episode 52 and the trade happened in 55.

Yep, it was shot down on Pokemon.com. :-( I don't think we'll be seeing any Pokemon movies in US theaters any time soon, sadly.
Darn. Does that mean there will be a separate event for the Darkrai? D:

According to WPM and PokeBeach, it will be an event download at Toys R' Us. I haven't seen any official confirmation of that yet, though.
