Hello! ChrisTom here. I wrote this back on the Pokecommunity, and I hope you all enjoy it. This Fanfiction takes place 10 years into the future in the Pokemon world. After a mysterious event, all Pokemon of the world are savagely violent. Brothers killing brothers, newborns being eaten by their parents. A small group of Larvitar who have taken refuge in the ruins of Goldenrod City are the only ones who aren't infected by the incurable disease. They fight for their lives day after day from the horrible monsters in their world.

I hope you all enjoy it!

Fire. It is everywhere. I am scared. I am sad. I am confused. And I wonder if things will get better...

THE SINGLE LARVITAR

I am running from him. He is catching up with me, but little does he know I am going to my secret spot. All of my kind have a “Secret Spot” where we can go to be alone. I ran faster and faster through the labyrinth like ruins of Goldenrod City. I dared not to look behind me.

“HOUNDOOM!!”

“Lar, lar, lar, lar!”

Every few steps he took he would cascade a stream of fire towards me, only for me to narrowly miss. His glowing red eyes looked like burning pieces of charcoal. I swung around a corner and then another, hoping to lose my foe.

“Hound, DOOM!”

Finally I reach my destination, and squeeze between 2 ruins of tightly packed buildings.

“RAGH! RAUGH!!”

The Houndoom tried to fit his snout through, but couldn’t. It gave loud noisy chomps, and I squirmed to the back wall. I heard another loud growl, and the beast was gone. After stopping to catch my breath, I entered the underground area where me and 2 other Larvitar lived.

We all sat in silence, while the eldest Larvitar angrily walked out and then back in with a charred berry. It was good food, and there weren’t that many plants. We tried to grow a berry tree, but it didn’t work out well.

Our abode was very nice. We had a good amount of room, a small sand pit on the side (We used this as a podium), and a small crack we could see outside.

We didn’t really want to though. The only things to see were piles of rubble, and angry Pokemon fighting each other to the death. The moon was hardly visible, as toxic gases floated in the sky, along with smoke from fires. It had been this way since I was young. I had met many humans before, but then one day my brother and I were playing, and then our mother’s eyes started to glow red like coals. She became very angry, and scared us. We left then. The eldest Larvitar was my brother, and the other was a friend who joined us.

My brother was silent. The only name he liked was “Brother” so that’s what I called him. My friend liked to draw. She drew on a rock in our living area. Her pencils were pieces of rubble she found to scrape in lines. She liked to be called Heidi, even though that wasn’t her name. It was the name of a Girl she met once, who taught her about drawing.

I ate my piece of the berry silently as we heard a rampaging creature outside.

I heard Goldenrod City used to be very pretty. A Xatu told us this. I found it hard to believe. When we entered the ruins, we saw the Xatu glooming down on the city, as if it were an old friend he lost. He told us it used to be fantastic, a marvelous civilization, where the buildings looked as if they were made of gold. All the buildings were gray, and broken. The buildings would’ve looked slightly nice if there was a blue sky. After the Xatu told his tale he flew away.

A large explosion was heard in the distance. I crawled over to my side of the room and fell asleep. The floor was a dirty blue linoleum, and everybody got a side of the room. My brother got the side near the entrance. Heidi had her side near the rock. I had my side near the “window” and watched the crimson clouds float across the sky.

I was worried because tomorrow would be my turn to get the food. The world is dangerous.

SMACK!

My brother woke me up with a smack across the face. He was always angry.

“Get you butt moving. You get food today. If you don’t come back by sundown we’ll assume you’re dead. Go.”

He then literally kicked me out. My brother had a small white scar across his face. I don’t remember how he got it, but it was soft and very noticeable. He kept on telling me that Larvitars are perfect for adapting to these conditions. He calls them uh... Post-Apocalyptic.

I walked out onto the red concrete. I carefully walked the streets, making sure to check for predators. The only plants were far outside of the city, and I knew things were worse out there. At least in the ruins you can hide behind bricks, in the forest you can’t hide. It’s too simple and fragile.

I ran outside on main street, where the larger creatures were. A Gyarados and a Tyrannitar were battling it out. They had been fighting for the past 3 days. You could see their open wounds and scars from the battle. They seemed as if everything they hated about life was in their opponent.

“GYARADOS!! UUNGH!”

I ran past them trying to squeeze against the wall. I hoped to dear lord they didn’t see me. Luckily they didn’t notice. I stepped into a chunk of flesh that fell off of the Gyarodos. I retreated after the first slimy step, but then realized it was simply blood and tissue. I wondered how the group would feel if I brought this home? No, I shouldn’t.

I continued past the largest building. It’s iron framework twisted in the wind, and a howling sound whistled through the shattered windows. It used to have food in it, but it was raided by smaller Pokemon. More clouds started rolling in, and I knew I didn’t have much time.

I decided to check in a small court in the Southwest of the city. It used to have a small park with lots of trees. Maybe it had some berries. I carefully stepped through the anger infested streets. The court was the only place left with some electricity. Every once in a while you would see a Raichu. I walked to the court in the center, where a singly dying pine tree stood. I looked left and noticed a charred berry bush. A Charmeleon must have been here. They selfishly burned the bushes after they ate, so nobody could eat. I picked a few berries off of the dark leaves.

“CREEAAK!”

“LARVITAR!” I yelled.

What was that sound!? I hid behind the tree’s rugged texture. The sound came from about 100 feet away. I shook in fear. Was it a Magneton? There were alot of those on the West side of the city. I searched and saw eyes peeking out underneath a large dome of metal. I grabbed a rock from my side and was ready to throw it.

But to my surprise, a Human came out of the hole. It was young, about 12 or 13, and had crimson red hair. I stepped out to get a closer look. For some reason after the person saw me he retreated in fear. I still approached him curiously while he yelled and struggled to get back into the hole. While he was running to the dome he tripped on a rock and fell over backwards. I simply walked over to him and then sniffed him. Eventually he got the idea that I was perfectly safe and then he reluctantly petted me, as if I were a bomb that was about to go off. He gave a fake smile and then picked me up.

I struggled to get out of his grip, but then he force-fed me a sedative. The last thing I can remember is him taking me into the hole.

I woke up an hour later. I was being probed by an elderly person. The boy was in the far corner.

“Well he’s clean. I don’t know how, but he’s clean.” The first man said. He had grey hair and you could see the veins in his hand. He looked like he was in his early 50’s

I hope I was clean. I mean I don’t take a bath everyday but...

“I don’t care if he is clean, we can’t keep him in here! If he’s in here for more than a few hours he’ll kill us all!”

I stood up and then looked at the 2 men who then retreated in complete fear.

“Larvitar?”

“Get back! GET BACK!!!”

About 7 other people were in the room. It was a long room, and people were sitting on the floor, some of them looked very tired.

I stood up and walked towards one of the people, who ran away to the other side of the room. Everybody thought I was evil...

I walked over to the kid who picked me up earlier, who was in a corner. But when I heard a clicking noise I stopped.

“Don’t you dare go near him!” A large gun was cocked right at me by the 2nd man.

“Larvitar.”

“Don’t play any games with me! You’re contaminated!!” This man looked like he was 58, and he had a snarl to his voice.

“Larvitar?”

“Move Yancy, you don’t even know if he is or not! Now it was my idea to bring one in, so I’ll test him, ok?” The first man said.

Yancy grumbled and moved back.

“Hey Larvitar. My name is Mark,” The first Man said as he approached me reluctantly. “I want you to touch my nose.”

“Lar?”

I was rather confused by this, but I walked over and tapped Mark on the nose. He then smiled and then hugged me very tight.

“HE’S SAFE!! HE’S SAFE!!” He yelled at the top of his lungs.

“Tar...” I managed to cough through his suffocating hug.

Everybody quickly crowded around me and started petting me. They all seemed very relieved. I was very confused, but they seemed like they knew what they were doing. They all took me to a large storage room filled with frozen foods and fed me very well. I wondered why I was so special. While I was eating my food Mark came in and explained everything with a story..........

“Several years ago things were fine. There used to be millions of billions of trees. There were beautiful lakes of crystalline water, and the sky was a bright blue. The grass used to be green, but after this disease started, it is red with the blood of Pokemon. This city was the largest city in the entire nation. There used to be several billion people. My friends and I think there are now less than one million.”
“You might be wondering how this happened. Several years ago a Professor was trying to come up with a way to make Pokerus more readily available to all trainers. It was rare enough to find the bacteria, and as soon as you found it, the virus died. So he tried to make a long lasting bacteria that could travel through the air giving all Pokemon Pokerus.”
“This didn’t work, and what happened to the Pokemon instead was incredible strength and violent anger. These Pokemon are so violently angry, they can’t even touch a person’s nose without trying to smash it to bits. I could tell you were safe, but I was willing to give up my life to make sure.”
“My Family and friends have been living in here for the past decade. We can’t come out because if we do we will get slaughtered. You and your family are apparently immune to this disease, and we want to see if there is some sort of way to use you as a way to find an antidote.”
“Please help us Larvitar!”

I then remembered after his speech that I forgot to go back to my Secret Spot! I grabbed my food and ran to the ladder at the end of the hallway. People seemed too confused to do anything and before anybody could grab me I was gone.

I scurried across the streets and dove into my little home. I ran inside and saw that my Brother was angry at me for being late.

“Why were you late?”

“There were some weird people who took me into a small room. Then they told me that there was a disease that made all the Pokemon angry.”

My brother did not change his expression.

“And they gave me this bag of food.”

Heidi’s eyes lit up with joy.

We all ate well that night as I told them my story. Heidi ate every word, but Brother just looked at me angrily. He constantly tried to give me a feeling of apathy. He seemed dissatisfied of everything I do. I wondered why.

After I went to bed I heard the Gyarados had won the battle. He roared as loud as possible, and then smashed some buildings to celebrate his victory. I lay down on the blue linoleum, and secretly wanted to go back to the underground building. I might as well, it was Heidi’s shift tomorrow anyways.

Later that night I got up. My brother was in a deep sleep, and I carefully stepped over to the entrance.

“Where ya going?”

“AUUGH!” I screamed in fright. But it was just Heidi.

“What do you want?” I asked.

“Before you go I want to show you a drawing! Come here.”

I tiptoed over to Heidi’s side of the room. She had several white rocks lying around her side. She used these to scrape into the walls to draw things.

“Here it is!” She picked up a small rock with a drawing on it. I looked closely and saw a crude drawing of a Larvitar in front of a Gyarados. She tried to write english, but it turned out more like squiggles and odd curves here and there.

“Pretty good. Is that supposed to be you?” I asked, feeling bad that I couldn’t tell who it was...

“No, it’s you!”

“Well thank you. I need to go out real quick so...”

“But this is the worst possible time to go out! This is when the Aerodactyls and Scyther come out and look for food!”

“It’s ok, I won’t be gone for long.”

“Well be careful.”

I stepped over my sleeping brother and out of my Secret Spot into the open. Looked to the left... the right. It was clear.

I ran as fast as possible to the main street, where the large corpse of a Tyrannitar was rotting. Several Aerodactyl were angrily chomping at the insides. I shuddered with fear. No doubt the Aerodactyl would try and get me. I took the chance and zoomed down the street. All of them heard me, and flew towards their next meal. They gained on me, faster and faster still. I jumped towards a crevice, and went furthest away from the entrance.

“DACTYL!!!” They screamed, angry they could not fit.

SMAASH!!

I looked around. The flying beasts were breaking the building I was hiding under! I dashed outside while they were still focused on breaking. I was finally approaching the dome when they started catching up.

“Knock, Knock!” I hit the door again and again and again and-

“AERO!!” The creature yelled, claws outstretched towards me.

BAM!!

I looked around, expecting half my body to be gone. No, it was still on me. I turned around and saw Mark behind me with a shotgun in his hand.

“It’s a sad day when people have to kill Pokemon like that. Quick, come in.”

He took me inside the building, where Yancy was boiling something on a table.

“Larvitar.” I said. I knew they couldn’t hear me, but it was nice to say something.

“Come here Larvitar.” Mark walked me into one of the several storage rooms.

He sat me down and put some straps on me. Then he petted me on the head and got out a syringe. Wait- A SYRINGE!?!?

“LARVITAR!! LAR, LAR! LARVITAR!!!” I struggled to get out of my seat.

“You mean to tell me you’ve been living out there where creatures are literally ripping each other’s heads off, but you’re scared of a needle?”

“LAR- LARVITAR!!”

“Point taken.”

He stabbed me with the steely needle and blood started draining out of me.

“Alright it’s over, I’ll unstrap you.”

I ran over to the far corner of the room. I don’t care if I survived, I don’t want somebody poking a needle into me!

I walked over to the main hallway, where Yancy was doing something with my blood. There were several tubes on the table, all of which were filled with liquids a powders. Yancy leaned over to Mark and whispered.

“Listen I know this is my fault, but does this rat have to be watching me?”

“Lar!” I yelled at his comment.

“Come on Larvitar.” Mark said and then he picked me up.

Mark walked through a few more series of hallways, and then we exited in what looked like a medieval dance floor.

It was a large room made of bricks and a few crumbling walls. The only thing holding up the ceiling were a few waterlogged pillars.

“Larvitar, I want you to get that big box on the other side of the room. Go on.”

I walked into the old room. There were several shelves filled with odd things. Most of the items brought up a feeling of nostalgia. There were several red and white balls, the shells of eggs, and an old stuffed Aipom doll. There were Calendars with dates circled. I saw old wheels and several broken jars. The most interesting things were wooden sticks with metal ends. The sticks were stained or burnt. I reached the end where a large box was. Dutifully I picked it up and walked over to Mark.

“Alright come with me.”

He walked over to a metal door and into a closet of some sort. I walked in with him, and suddenly I heard a buzz and a spark. The closet started moving upwards. Mark stared forward as the closet passed several doors like it. It escalated higher and higher and it finally reached the top floor.

We stepped out of the closet and Mark sat down on the edge of the Building. I had never been this high up before. I then realized that mark was showing me his Secret Spot.

He looked over the city, where fires were seen in the distance, where carcasses were strewn, where no plants grew, where buildings were toppled over, and where anger was seen everywhere. But then he started to cry. They were tears of joy. And I think I knew why. He must have known the city when it was beautiful. And to look at this horrible slice of hell, and be able to see a happy metropolis is a pretty amazing for a person to do.

I sat down next to him and he petted me. He opened the box and held out a large painting. The painting was of a sunrise. An orange sunrise over a blue ocean. And in front of the ocean was a silver tower, gleaming in a large city, filled with bustling people. That was what Mark saw. He then put the painting down, and I saw the ruins.

I wondered if I would ever see what Mark saw.

I probably won’t though.

Hey nice work! I love the first-person POV, not a lot of fics on her utilize this. Anyways, great start...keep it up!
