what is everyones opinions on the Smogon tiers? Are they the only currently viable tier out there? Do They accurately reflect the metagame?

Apart from the whole Salamence thing that everyone (even me, I admit) is griping about, I suppose it fits. Particularly since Smogon basically has a total monopoly on the way the metagame rolls.

Yes, everything but Salamence.

They, at least used to, make a great effort in keeping everything the way it should be.

That is, until they took out Salamence, but whatever. Idiot voters.

I think SharKing summed it up best. It doesn't matter whether or not they're really viable. They've monopolized the metagame market.

I like that we have a tier system that is rather standard in use. I may not agree with everything that passes for it but I follow it to a tee anyway because it encourages a more fair metagame.

I will continue using them because they're the only ones who have been doing it right. I'm not too happy with some of their decisions but I can live with it.

I think they are fine. They have a comprehensive process and no other site has bothered to make one. Until then it fits.

lol @ coco's sig

Yes they are the only viable tiers out there to my knowledge, but they don't so much 'reflect' the metagame as they do create it.

I'm not sure of the exact reason, but since Salamence has been banned I see nothing but my least favorite Pokemon to face on Shoddybattle. It's kind of a nightmare. I'd much rather take my chances with Mence.

No offence, but I hate it when people complain about the tiers. Personally I don't really have a problem with it. The tiers on smogon are generally good apart from a few things and many of them will change when B/W come out.

I think that their tiers are okay if you want to battle by the rules that they run around creating. I mean really, what if I wanted to battle with my Salamence with a quick claw (which I do)? I prefer to battle the normal way, without tiers to mess me up.

The tiers are built to add structure to the metagame, so that not everyone runs around going "lolololololol u cant beat my arceus" and such.

I like it, except fer the "BL" group. If they don't make it any larger then why have it at all? Makes a bot more since to me to just move them all up to the "OU" category.

Most of their other choices I agree with.

Yeah, I don't see the sense in it, either. But I suppose it's recycled from past metagames; look at R/S/E.

It's a banlist for UU, All those pokemon rock the entire fucking metagame if they were allowed.

I know they're too broken for UU, but with the sheer microscopicness of the BL tier, they're basically just lesser-used OUs. In fact, in OU, Porygon-Z (a BL) is used more than Heracross (an OU).

Well, they could just combine BL and OU and solve that problem.

Exactly! We don't need BL for Gen. 4, and we probably won't need it for Gen. 5.

That's ridiculous. It's based purely on usage, and the BLs aren't used enough to qualify for OU. As for Heracross, that will be sent to UU either this month or next month. As it is a total gamebreaker in UU, it will most likely be relegated to BL. It's a good system.

Smogon does a great job regulating the metagame. If anyone else was willing to do it "better", than they should step up. (I think the idea of Bulbagarden tiers is a great idea and fully support it :))

You defend Smogon, then support Bulbagarden tiers? That's not a lot of sense made there, LOL.

I said BLs are essentially lesser-used OUs for a reason. Their tier's too small to be a tier, and since they can't rampage in UU, where do they go? They're stuck in OU.
