So, listening to the Pokemon Reorchestrated album and a few old Pokemon songs just gave me an idea for a new journey RP.

The Song of Pokemon
Introduction:
Like every other journey RP out there, this one should be rather familiar: exploring the regions, training new Pokemon, and facing enemies of all stripes. But the defining feature of this world is a phenomenon common to all Pokemon: Harmonia, the synchronization between human and Pokemon expressed as a melody. A Pokemon's harmonia is its identity, its soul expressed as music; it can only be heard by those who know the very heart and soul of that Pokemon. Normally, harmonia is completely unheard; no one can detect the harmonia of a wild Pokemon. As a trainer spends more and more time with his Pokemon however, developing a powerful bond through friendship and shared experiences, the melody of his Pokemon's harmonia becomes more and more clear to him. It is unknown how complex a Pokemon's harmonia can become; even the Champions, trainers who have developed their bonds with their Pokemon to incredible extents, admit that their Pokemon's harmonia continue to grow and evolve.
While harmonia simply indicates the depth of the bond between human and Pokemon, trainers can use their Pokemon's harmonia to react swifter and more powerfully in the midst of battle. Along with a Pokedex, new trainers are often given an instrument at the start of their journeys. Typically, they are small, portable, and durable. Ocarinas from the Orange Islands are the most popular choice, but those musically-trained trainers often bring their own--instruments ranging from harmonicas to flutes to harps can be used. Instead of having to verbally command their Pokemon, trainers can play their Pokemon's harmonia on their instrument; by playing different variations on the core melody of the harmonia, the trainer can pass commands and ideas to their Pokemon. This ability becomes more potent as a trainer strengthens their bond with their Pokemon; a newly bonded Pokemon and trainer will barely be able to communicate, while a pair together for years may approach a telepathic connection. Interestingly, as a battle continues, the harmonia of those involved begins to resemble each other--battling truly allows trainers and Pokemon to understand each other, creating a greater and even more powerful melody.
While every individual Pokemon's harmonia is unique, some general patterns can be found. The harmonia of Pokemon of the same species tends to be broadly similar; Gyarados are generally loud and aggressive, while starter Pokemon tend to be friendly, simple, and straightforward. Similar sounds can also be found among those of the same type; for instance, flying types have high, soaring melodies, while dark types have subtle, chaotic harmonies in the background. Moreover, though each trainer gains and develops an individual understanding of how to express their Pokemon's harmonia musically, general ideas and concepts can be taught at schools.

The Legendary Songs:
One of the defining features of Legendary Pokemon in this setting is their unimaginably beautiful and complex harmonia--alone among all Pokemon, their harmonia can be perceived by everyone. Though some may lack the sheer power of ordinary Pokemon, their harmonia is undeniably more powerful; they contain melodies within melodies, obscuring and mingling and colliding, yet somehow producing an incomprehensibly beautiful sound. Over the centuries, through the occasional encounter with Legendary Pokemon, people began to write songs derived from that Pokemon's harmonia. These songs can be used at any time, to express an idea to a Pokemon, or even amplify their strength or grant unique abilities. Trainers often go to schools before their journey to learn these songs.
The most popular and commonly used songs are:
Just as there are many Legendary Pokemon, there are many songs. NOTE: If you can think up a song that matches a Legendary Pokemon, you are free to create and use it!
The most popular and commonly used songs are:
- The Song of Life: Mew's song. A simple, unassuming theme, it features a powerful, uplifting melody. It accelerates healing, growth, and encourages the determination to improve.
- The Song of the North Wind: Suicune’s song. A breathtaking and beautiful melody, cantering in and out of legato and staccato in a fast-passed, flowing, windy sound. It evokes swiftness and courage, driving away fear and encouraging agility.
- The Song of the Burned: Entei’s song. Loud and invigorating, Entei’s Song roars out in defiance and power, demanding bruit strength, and bruit strength alone, with it’s brash notes and determined undertone.
- The Song of Striking Thunder: Raikou’s song. It clashes dramatically, coming to a complete stop several times. Silence is used in equal measure with sound, each time a new and different melody, striving the Pokemon to use imagination and think outside the box.
- The Song of the Guardian: Lugia's song. Written by the people of the Orange Islands, it is a bold, triumphant song, prefaced by a distinct, simple melody. When played, it rouses a Pokemon's spirit, encouraging determination and the will to protect.
- The Song of the Sky: Rayquaza's song. A mysterious melody that sounds like birdcall. It heals a Pokemon, both physically and spiritually.
- The Song of Prayer: Darkrai's song. A peaceful, hopeful melody that belies Darkrai's nightmarish nature. It encourages peace and communication, as well as a stalwart heart that never surrenders, allowing a Pokemon to persist in even the most difficult battle.
- The Song of Dreams: Cresselia's song, a serene nocturne which builds into very stong ballad, it soothes angered pokemon and gives hope to wounded pokemon, allowing them to hold out just a little longer.
- The Song of Emptiness: Kyurem's song. A bitter, melancholy theme, punctuated by echoing silences. Though grimly named, it encourages the drive to advance, strengthening those who are falling behind and are nearing despair.
Just as there are many Legendary Pokemon, there are many songs. NOTE: If you can think up a song that matches a Legendary Pokemon, you are free to create and use it!
Rules:
- Standard RP etiquette. No godmodding, no bunnying, no tennising, etc.
- Be informed. If you need something clarified, or are unsure about the setting or plot or need a recap, ask for it. It's the GM's job to make sure everyone is as involved as possible.
- Try to stay active. This doesn't mean you should post 24/7, but try to keep up, announce your absences, and ask for help if you get lost or fall behind.
- Keep it PG. While there can be some violence, swearing, and romance, don't go over-the-top with it. This is the Pokemon World, not a dark and grim nightmare.
- Read the rules.
