I think the Sonic franchise is possibly in its last days now after the Black Knight debacle.

I really loved SU for the 360, then BK came out and just made me angry.

What are your thoughts?

The problem with sonic is that SEGA keep thinking of new ways to innovate the franchise with gimmicks, when all we want is a normal 2D style sidescroller, like sonic unleashed without the werecrap.

sonic is still around?! dang, I remember playing it YEARS ago on the genesis (yea im old enough to have had a genesis). I havent played it on any of the new consoles, but yea I can see how a 3D version of the game is a bit unnecessary.

A full on Sonic game with the same side view gameplay from Unleashed would be strangely erotic.

Do it sega. DO IT NAO

Sega should definitely do with Sonic something like the New Super Mario Brothers. Bring back the old style of gameplay (including a ringless final boss battle). That's where Sonic was at his best and should have stayed.

...and with Eggy as the final boss. For once on a home console. PLEASE

Lets all remember "The Sonic Cycle"

Seen that pic before. It's unfortunately quite an accurate depiction about how many (if not most) Sonic fans currently feel about the Sonic franchise. I've been a MAD CRAZY Sonic fan since the early to mid-90s (ie. well over a decade now), but my interest in the Sonic franchise as a whole has been waning for the last several years now (I'd say since about when Heroes came out). Sonic Team seem to have insisted on shitting all over their most iconic franchise for the last several years and it's pissing me off. But being the eternal optimist that I am, I still have hope that Sonic will return someday (and I mean RETURN!).

Amen to THAT, man! That's what I've been saying on various Sonic forums for fucking AGES.

IMO, it's not just the gameplay that's gone to pot, but the entire atmosphere of the Sonic universe itelf. Ever since Adventure 2, there's been a severe lack of style or substance to any of these games, which is part of the reason the initial releases were so appealing in the first place. I'd totally take Mushroom throwing robo-moles, psychodellic locales and lighthearted fun over the current trend of generic killbots, random cityscape #10392 and 'dark' storylines featuring giant mythological creatures. It's basically lost everyhting that made it so unique and enjoyable in the first place.

It may be a horendously cliche wish, but the MegaMan 9 route? That looks mighty appealing right now.

Adventure 2 was SEGAs last decent Sonic home console game IMO. BUT I still think SEGA has what it takes to make us a decent game. SA3 anyone?

I know a lot of Sonic fans feel the frustration. The thing is that if you talk to younger fans, especially the ones that didn't grow-up with the famous 16-bit console wars. They don't see anything wrong with the Sonic franchise. In fact, they actually like games such as Unleashed and Sonic and the Secret Rings.

It's really the older Sonic fans that feel that the franchise isn't any good anymore. Sega can still release good Sonic games as I'm fan of the Sonic Advance and Rush portable games, but I would like to see Sega stop with supposedly "dark” and "plot-driven storylines" and just make a good Sonic game again that has Dr. Eggman as the final boss as a console game.

I think the last good Sonic game in full was Rush. Yeah, Unleashed had it's parts, but the game was ruined by the Night stages.

If Sega wants me to buy any more Sonic games, they need to make a straight 2-d game like in the years long gone.

To be honest... that isn't Sonic's problem, if anything it's Sonic's savior. Sonic's problem is Sega feels the need to pump out a game every 6months to a year despite it's quality.

They just need to give sonic a break, develop something else, then slowly put out a new sonic game. If they gave it the same development time as Sonic Adventure it'd probably be as good as the Sonic Adventure games... except for now, it's very popular to make fun of sonic games, so even if a great game comes out, most gamers would can it for being sonic.

Not necessarily Adventure 3, just a game that's ONLY like the day stages of Unleashed.

SA3? I believe that was Sonic the Hedgehog(2006) for the XBox 360. The next step for SEGA is a fourth Sonic Adventure going back to Sonic the Hedgehog or SA1 style platforming with Blaze and Silver as separate playable story characters with thier own story plots.

Also SONIC: The Dark Brotherhood Chronicles was I believe SEGA's first attempt at a role playing game, it was ok at first but get boring after a couple of times through.

You want Sonic in a nutshell?

A hedgehog on drugs runs around with his genius fox stalker(with 2 tails!) and takes pretty, shiny jewels with magical powers from a dude with an egg-shaped head.

and that is all I've got to say regarding Sonic the Hedgehog.
