Not exactly 100% confirmed, and I'd consider this a rumor until a better source comes up, but according to Superherohype.com, Sony WILL make a fourth, fifth, AND sixth Spider-Man movies.

At the Los Angeles press junket today, Spider-Man 3 director Sam Raimi confirmed that Sony Pictures is doing a 4th, 5th and 6th installment of the popular franchise.

We'll have his exact words shortly, but Raimi said that he hasn't had time to think of any involvement and he doesn't want to presume Sony would want him to direct.

He said there has to be a good story to tell and that "it'd be very hard to say goodbye to 'Spider Man.'"

Spider-Man 3 opens in conventional theaters and IMAX on May 4.

So, basically, Sony are planning on a second trilogy, but no one's actually attached yet (and Raimi's said he's interested in directing the Hobbit). So...this could all change very quickly.

Spiderman's new power: beating dead horses.

While most movie series DO tend to lose their punch past three (if they last that long), it's not like there aren't plenty of villains yet to be utilized. Plus, you've got several Spidey-centric allies.

I'm not saying future films will be good, but they SHOULD have a fairly deep well to draw from.

Now that the Daredevil movie franchise is dead, hopefully they'll be able to use Kingpin. Also, Black Cat finally hitting the big screen WOULD be pretty sweet.

I wanna see basically the sinister six, or make a really cool version of Ultimate Power. If Sony and Fox and Universal could play nice they would trump JLA.

But since that wont happen I want Scorpion, Black Cat, and Kraven in movie 4 but they are going to turn Black Cat into a mutant or something I know it :(

Take advantage of the fact that none of the old cast is returning and make it an Ultimate Spidey movie I say. How are you going to sell it as a Spidey 4 when none of the main cast members from the first 3 want anything to do with it?

Plus - the first arc of Ultimate Spidey >>>>>>>>>>> Amazing Fantasy #15 by a million miles.

First off, the three lead members have all said they wouldn't do it if the other two weren't there, but none have said, flat out, they wouldn't do it.

Plus - the first arc of Ultimate Spidey >>>>>>>>>>> Amazing Fantasy #15 by a million miles.

Isn't it, basically, the exact same thing? Only with the idea that there would be future stories (Spidey's first appearance was meant as the final issue of the book, and Stan through in Spidey because he figured he didn't have anything to lose) and, thus, they could lay the groundwork? Plus they already had Ultimized versions of classic Spidey characters laid out and could throw them in, knowing people would understand? It's perspective. It's like re-writing the original series but editing out the stuff that, over time, didn't work (though WHY they did a Clone Saga is beyond me).

Cool. If this is true, that means we get the Lizard!
And probably in the 4th movie.
And Mysterio!!!!
YUSS!

If there are 3 more movies, they definitely have to include Shocker and Electro. If they don't, they suck arse.

But yeah, this is cool, Sony's pulling a Star Wars on us. :p

Well, there are now 5 Superman movies and a 6th on the way and the same for Batman (neither of those counting the pre 70/80s 'movies'), so really all a second trilogy of Spider-Man movies will mean that it matches DC's top two heroes.

In fact, by the time that Spider-Man 6 would actually be released, Batman and Superman would likely have another 2 or 3 films under their belt already as well.

People are totally making the wrong comparisons with this announcement, when movies within the same genre fit better as a comparison than randomly James Bond or Star Wars. :p

Yeah, but Star Wars ONLY has 6, and only ever will have 6 (proper ones, anyway). And this announcement mentions six Spiderman movies. :p

What I'm quite worried about here is replacements for characters. Not so much Kirsten Dunst, since I don't like her as Mary-Jane, but for Peter, I quite like Tobey. If he doesn't sign on, wonder who they'd get instead?
