The storyline?

You are a ten-year-old boy/girl thrusted into the world of POKéMON. The areas local POKéMON PROFESSOR gives you the choice of one of three starter POKéMON. From there you travel to nearby towns and cities, capturing POKéMON and challenging their local eccentric GYM LEADERS in GYM BATTLES for GYM BADGES all the while facing down the evil TEAM DUMBPETPEEVEORGIMMICK. After defeating the organization just before collecting the eighth and final of the regions GYM BADGES you travel to VICTORY ROAD, complete its arduous STRENGTH PUZZLES, and continue on to THE POKEMON LEAGUE. From there, you one by one defeat THE ELITE FOUR, who are most likely even weirder then the GYM LEADERS. After that you face THE CHAMPION, defeat him/her, become CHAMPION of the regions POKéMON LEAGUE yourself. You and your POKéMON's data is then saved in the HALL OF FAME behind the former CHAMPIONS room. Roll credits.

-Ten year old starts his journey by accident because he meets the regional prof and somehow acquires a starter.

-The professor notes how good a battler the player is and suggests that you go try your hand out in the Pokemon league.

-By the third badge, you will have already met a mysterious team, but their intentions are unclear.

-You realize this team is quite a threat to the peace of [Region] but at the same time you are not obligated to do anything even though you will.

-By the seventh badge, you will have met the Champion, but you do not know that yet! You will be so entangled in Team Bad Guy's plot that you must stop them.

-Get your eighth badge.

-Beat the leage.

-What's that? There's a battle tower?

So, basically, it will probably be the same as always. There is a chance that they'll do something new and different, though...

The snark isn't as funny as you think it is, guys.

I think I'd like to see a "threat to the balance of nature and technology" kind of story, in conjunction with a more technologically advanced region than in the past. Since all the past regions have been good about such a nature/tech balance, explaining how it got out of balance would provide for some good backstory.

Well, then I don't see how this thread is really any different from this when the plot outside of the basic structure I pointed out is basically the villain team and their goals.

I think it'd be a nice departure if, instead of big cities that only seem to have bike paths (even though heavy machinery is needed to build at least some of the buildings...), we see our hero start as the child of a Pokemon Professor who land in a new territory of wilderness with a few basic villages of people scouting and mapping the as-yet-uncharted region and pokemon. There could be natives to challenge you, gym-style, and a greedy sect of explorers looking to exploit the new land and it's inhabitants. I'd totally play that Pokemon game. lol

As long as they don't make the "natives" into heathen idiotic cave men or anything like that, that sounds like a very cool game

Hm, colonising a totally new region where the Pokémon are entirely unknown and there's very little civilisation? Could be good, though how would the infrastructure of Pokémon Centres, Gyms and Marts get there?

Pokemon has an excuse plot. So I'm thinking that we're gonna see more of the same. Platinum and The Giovanni event have had the most complex plots of them all. So the future does look good, but I'm gonna play devil's advocate and say that it'll be the same.

The natives have various cures for fainted pokemon. they sell various natural remedies (not those herbal medicines) that serve as potions, etc.

It... will probably be the same or a similar plot as usual.

The same old and uninteresting "A large team of incompetent dumbassses are trying to capture a legendary for their 'evil' deeds." story shouldn't be used next gen.

How about reversing the roles? This time a small team of trainers (Maybe it could even be the elite 5) are trying to defeat a legendary that is causing havoc across the region and (of course) in the end it's up to you to kill defeat or to calm the beast. Yes, I realize that legends also fuck shit up in the other games, but in those it's only because they can't control their power. In this case the legend(s?) will have complete control and know exactly what they are doing.

Though we'll probably get more of same, why change the plot now when the same cookie cutter plot sells like hot cakes?

For the record, I don't see what was so "incompetent" about Team Galactic as a whole. The only people that were that way were the Grunts.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm pleased with what they've gone by in these main series games. It could be because I'm an easier person to please, I dunno... but for people who are getting tired of the same-old/same-old, there are other games besides these to play. 'Tis why I got my Wii games whenever I decide to play something else besides my Pokemanz.:-/

That's what I think too. Platinum and HG/SS with the whole Silver/Giovanni event have been the most complex and interesting so far in the main handheld series. It's the main reason why I'm really looking forward to Gen V. If it's any indication, each Generation has gone by with a little more "stuff" added to them, as far as features and plots go. So I can kinda see them doing something just as complex as Platinum with this, or a tiny bit more.

Perhaps the new region will have just gotten hit by a serious natural disaster, leaving it lawless and the new team is just a group of guys capitalizing on the state of things. you and your crew (professor, rival, etc) obviously would go against them trying to rebuild the region correctly.

If your entire criminal organisation can be taken down by a ten year old, you can chalk it up as incompetent.

Then what about all the movies, shows, and games that have the bad guys beaten by a bunch of kids or teenagers? Are they incompetent as well? I'm not a fan of Harry Potter AT ALL, but is that Snape guy incompetent? Last I checked, he knows what he's doing and apparently has/will be completely defeated if he hasn't already.

This is all fiction we're talking about, not some 10 year old in real life who starts beating the crap out of Al Queda or something like that, what do you expect? A bad guy or a bunch of bad guys being beaten by somebody younger than them in FICTION isn't considered "incompetent", it's merely following the fictional law that "all bad guys get defeated in the end". A villain in a fictional world who's TRUELY incompetent is somebody like Control Freak from Teen Titans, Drakken from Kim Possible, or Jack Spicer from Xiaolin Showdown.... and if you wanna have a Pokemon franchise-related example, try the TR trio or Miror B.

You're a Wannabe Trainer who's come to a new reigon to start their Adventure. The special thing about this reigon is that something weird is happening, and all the Previous Trainers and rivals have come here to help all the previous professors sort somecrap out. You fight an evill team and meet all of the trainers along the way. Blah Blah Blah.

A new feature I'd add is a thing at the beginning where you customize you're avatar and your 2 rivals, say what Reigon you're from, and you get to choose from the 3 starters of said Reigon (Say you're from Kanto and you get to choose from Bulbasaur Charmander and Squirtle)
