After the massive blockbuster success of the first (animated) Super Mario Bros. Movie, Nintendo/Illumination have confirmed the title of the sequel as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Releasing April 2026.

I'll be honest, the first movie I found serviceable enough. It's for all intents an above average Illumination kids movie and definitely had potential to be a more truly meaningful experience, but the novelty of it being a big celebration of Mario made it pretty worth it to me. Though, I wasn't confident the novelty of just being standard Mario fare again would cut it for the sequel, so going straight to Galaxy is a bold move that immediately boosts my interest up tenfold. I have fond appreciation for the games and has vibes and aesthetics that would instantly stand out for the movie. Also, it's looking very likely Rosalina and Yoshi (I assume he'll be here thanks to of the post credits of the first, and I don't think they'd bother rereleasing Galaxy 2 specifically) will be big new focus characters this time, which is the best case scenario as somebody who considers them both my big favorites amongst the Mario cast! I'm really curious how they'll fare voice casting-wise, though.
I'm not expecting anything groundbreaking, but if they go all in on the Galaxy motif, and Rosalina and/or Yoshi get screentime, I'll be happy!
