After the massive blockbuster success of the first (animated) Super Mario Bros. Movie, Nintendo/Illumination have confirmed the title of the sequel as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Releasing April 2026.

Use this thread to discuss your thoughts, predictions and so on!

I'll be honest, the first movie I found serviceable enough. It's for all intents an above average Illumination kids movie and definitely had potential to be a more truly meaningful experience, but the novelty of it being a big celebration of Mario made it pretty worth it to me. Though, I wasn't confident the novelty of just being standard Mario fare again would cut it for the sequel, so going straight to Galaxy is a bold move that immediately boosts my interest up tenfold. I have fond appreciation for the games and has vibes and aesthetics that would instantly stand out for the movie. Also, it's looking very likely Rosalina and Yoshi (I assume he'll be here thanks to of the post credits of the first, and I don't think they'd bother rereleasing Galaxy 2 specifically) will be big new focus characters this time, which is the best case scenario as somebody who considers them both my big favorites amongst the Mario cast! I'm really curious how they'll fare voice casting-wise, though.

I'm not expecting anything groundbreaking, but if they go all in on the Galaxy motif, and Rosalina and/or Yoshi get screentime, I'll be happy!

The first movie was actually one of my favorite Illumination movies ever. Very curious who will voice Rosalina maybe Vanessa Bayer? They better have Tara Strong voice Yoshi!

I am very hyped for this movie! I am hyped for everything announced in the direct from a franchise i like

I’m interested in watching, I liked the first movie. I just hope that they keep the essence of Rosalina’s character.

I watched the first movie and enjoyed it pretty much.

Will likely end up watching this as well.

I am genuinely curious though who they'll get to VA Rosalina and if the suicidal Luma will return lol

Same!

And.....y'know they just gotta keep this:

I'm confused at why it would be pitched (through its title) as a Super Mario Galaxy adaptation. The first film was a mish-mash of lots of different Mario elements, and it did well enough. Doing that again offers much more creative freedom. And it could still take heavy influence from Super Mario Galaxy without being named after the game. The advantages of presenting this film as a Galaxy adaption are
  • Drawing people in because Super Mario Galaxy is known to be one of the greatest games of all time.
  • Synergy with a rerelease of that game.
But like, Mario is already one of the most well known video game series of all time. I don't think point one really moves the needle here. So then why specifically say "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" and not like "The Galactic Mario Movie" to keep the options as open as they can be?

Each film needs a distinct focus. Mario has a sprawling supporting cast, and has been depicted in virtually every genre.

One thing to note is that I literally predicted a Galaxy movie over a separate forum and on Reddit several months back. I’ll gete the link once I have time, but yes, I can’t believe I actually saw the future.

And I was very close to changing my mind too. Over the months between making that post and the reveal, I figured a Galaxy film would be too large scale for the second film, especially after seeing that old leak that World was gonna be the next film. But no I was right all along and that leak was a lie.

Apparently Bowser Jr will be in this movie because a toy company showed an action figure of him the post was removed by Universal confirming that its real
I’ve never heard of that incident, but if that’s the case then that was something. But I’ll be massively shocked if it was truly confirmed he’ll be in the film because the previous film didn’t even remotely hint his existence.

IT. LOOKS. SO. GOOD.

It seems to take elements from Galaxy, Sunshine, Odyssey, and a tad bit of Wonder too.
I did not see the wonder aspect coming

Anyway as my thoughts on this it looks EPIC! I have never heard of the new confirmed actors but it looks like they have some experience with their career.

This is just the first we dont know who will voice Yoshi yet!

Also i am concerned if that Wario leak we got months back is real :chansey:

That voice from Megaleg when he faced Rosalina sounded a little deep for Bowser Jr. While I would not put it past him to have voice changing technology in Megaleg's speakers, it could also mean that someone else was piloting it when it faced Rosalina. Given how the voice sounded, it may have been Wario piloting it if it isn't Bowser Jr. Other hypotheses indicated that it could have even been Wart since Chris Meledandri mentioned that there would be some deep cuts in the movie as well. And we've already seen Ninjis in the trailer.

The most recent Direct Trailer also confirmed who is playing Bowser Jr. and Rosalina.

Interestingly enough, the preview on the Direct referred to Rosalina as Princess Rosalina when she has never properly been referred to as a princess before and even the presenters did not call her a princess.

As much as the guy playing bowser Jr, sounds decent if we had to force a celebrity VA in I’d rather have gotten Chris Rock as bowser Jr,
There was a time where people on Twitter thought go Kevin Hart playing Jr. and I actually think that would've been great.

But as it stands, Safdie sounds good.

Kevin heart is also a good pick, i think his voice fits the exact type of character bowser ir is
