I seem to remember a commercial from years ago with the vita, being able to take playstation games from the console and taking it on to the vita to go portable. If anyone else remebers that thing let me know, because if it exists would the switch have technically ripped the idea off of Sony?

Only stating this because this gamevice lawsuit over the joycon design reminded me of it. I love my Switch No hate to Nintendo I'm just asking.

I don't really think Nintendo copied the vita. The Switch is supposed to be a home console that you can make portable so you can leave the house and game as well. (At least to my understanding.) The Vita is strictly portable. Yes you can remote play games from PS4 on it but you cant leave the house while using remote play. Its almost like a very expensive extra controller for the PS4. So i guess what I'm saying is yes they are similar-ish in concept but no I don't think there was any unsavory idea borrowing.

I hear the Vita still has some presence in Japan ... unlike here in the US. Even Microsoft's way of handling XBox One "exclusives" (as in, many of them are also ported to Win 10 PCs) is better than how Sony handles the Vita stateside.

That's very much true. I believe part of the reason is because handheld gaming is huge in Japan. But now that the Switch is out and (to my knowledge) Sony is exiting handheld gaming, developers who worked with Vita are beginning to move over to the Switch. A prime example of this would be Disgaea, which previously only had two DS games.

The Vita and Switch are fundamentally different, and have different goals.

The point about taking Sony games on the go in practice meant that the Vita would be a handheld console powerful enough to provide almost console-quality games while being a portable device.

The Switch, meanwhile, actually is for all intents and purposes, a device that functions as a home console and a portable console, and has features that reflect that.

Essentially, the Vita was always a powerful handheld console made for handheld gaming, the Switch is a hybrid console made for both styles of gaming.

I honestly don't get any _____ vs vita comparisons because the vita is a great console but the niche it's in makes it hard to compare to a 3ds or a switch

While I disagree on the Xbox One exclusives thing (the original Xbox was just as guilty of this, and the fact is that as pc isn't technically a console many of the pc ports are considered an "exclusive" to the console even if it isn't (see: deus ex on ps2) No one can deny they dropped the ball with the vita here

Also my brothers best friend lives in japan as a teacher of english there and he says he actually sees more vita's then 3ds's out on the streets
