The Underground is a topic that doesn't see a lot of discussion, at least not as far as I can tell. However, I spend a lot of time down there (I'm at 30+ Heart Scales and counting at this point), and I was hoping we could all put our collective noodle together and share some ideas and experiences.

The whole reason I'm starting this thread is that I found something out about the Underground yesterday: If you bury lots and lots (and lots) of Spheres all in the same area, there will be a lot more stuff to dig out of the wall near that area. I personally have five rows of thirty buried Spheres (one row for each Sphere type), for a total of 150 Spheres, all in a corridor near my Secret Base. Many of them are level 99.

There are always dozens of shiny yellow spots to dig up near this "Sphere garden"; I could keep going for days if I had the patience, just digging stuff up.

Are there even more secrets to the Underground? For example, does the type of Sphere buried in an area affect what kind of treasure shows up in the walls nearby?

I’m glad to see that I am not the only one obsessed with the under ground I have 105 hearts scales I had about 200 but I sold them. About 30 of each fossil 9 keystones 100 fire thunder and sunstones I had more but I sold a lot of them two of each plates and more spears than I could need. I have trouble finding water stones and dome fossils does anyone know if they are more common in pearl or just uncommon.

I do have a certain fondness for the dear old underground, moslty revolving around my secret base. Oh, but I do adore my PokePlushies so! ^3^
Plus I've achived most of my GTS trades thanks to those precious fossils. And once I find the move tutor, those heart scales are gonna go like crazy. :D

You sold heart scales? Why? They don't sell for much, they're useful, and people like to get them in trades.

Anyway: Most furniture items have no effect, but there are some furniture items that are actually traps. These are called Tools in the furniture shop, iirc. You can place them around in your base and they activate when stepped on, but unlike a normal trap they don't disappear after that.

LOVE the underground. But what I didn't know was that if you bury spheres, more stuff is there in the walls for you to dig up. Thanks for that tip.

Oddly enough, I've never found a fire stone. I find all the Thunder, Water, and Leaf stones you could ever imagine, but no fire stones.

So I wondered...are Fire Stones more common to Diamond than they are Pearl? (Because I have Pearl)

Or, do the type of spheres you bury determine what kind of items you dig up? For instance, if I were to bury a bunch of red spheres, maybe then would I find a fire stone?

While I was playing my Japanese game, I was HEAVY into the underground. :p I found that if you save before going under (which you do anyway), and after digging, if you don't like what you dug up, or you're not satisfied, you can reset your game, try again, and get different stuff. :p

The big thing for me was the plates. I used to try to dig up at least one every day I dug. xD

Yeah, Fire stones are as common as Bidoof in Diamond, but I can never hardly find Waterstones.

I'm addicted to the underground as well! When I'm not chaining, I'm down there collecting things ^_^

That was something I asked myself. I have Diamond, and a nice surplus of Fire Stones. And I've only once found one Water Stone. So I guess you do.

In the beginning though, I was digging up plates left and right. o_O I haven't for a while now. I've also spent a lot of time there, and have only found one Rare Bone, and I played my brother's Pearl (who's barely touched the Kit) and found two in two days.

And this is probably obvious, but you find more Prism spheres in Diamond and Pale spheres in Pearl.

Traps can also grow over your buried spheres if there are enough in the area. I was temporarily horrified when two had grown in the spot of a Pale and Prism sphere and thought: level 99 spheres can turn into traps? Turns out, nope, they're just covering it. ...Was quite the panic though. Losing Red/Blue/Green lv 99 spheres, no biggie. Prism or Pale? 1st degree murder righthar.

Pie did CRAZY amounts of research on the Underground about a month ago.

That should be it, a nice thread rehash never hurt anyone though, especially about the Underground!

I have just recently gotten the Platinum Flag in the Underground and it took me about 45 minutes of running around, back and forth between my husband's Secret Base and mine 0.o

Mining is so fun, though! Has anyone made any connection between if having a GBA 3rd Gen game in the GBA slot affects the treasure found in the walls of the Underground?

I wanted the items at the casino and I never have luck on the slots. I already sold all my evo stones. The sad thing is that after I sold them I actually played the slots after and won 5 times in a row.

To get lots of Casino coins, all you have to do is beat the Elite Four a couple times. Then you'll have oodles of money.

Too many water stones in Pearl. Of course atleast I'm not getting hundreds of Thunderstones considering that only 2 Pokemon use it.

You never know when you'll want that killer team team of Raichu.

Though honestly, if they were going to make stones so accessible, they should have made at least one new evo each in the Sinnoh-born species stonevolve (new stones don't even count 'cause, oh look, they're 2nd gen and 3rd gen) instead of just made them Army of Eeveelution fodder or peddled into intrinsic war funds.

Has anyone figured out if some items (aside from the obvious fossil boom, come Nat'dex) are unlocked by progress? Because I never saw Star Pieces before I kicked the E4 where it hurt, and then they came up everywhere.

I saw a few star pieces before the E4 but they did seem to become more common after I had beat the E4.

If you plant a huge garden of Spheres, you won't have to reset, because there'll be a near-infinite supply of dig spots near it. ;)

It's worth noting here that using the Versus Seeker on the Gentleman and Socialite near the Pokémon Mansion is a much faster way to make money... but if you want to get lots of XP at the same time, the E4 is a better choice.
