The Unova Travels: Rise of The Crimson Shadows

The downfall of Team Plasma - six years ago, it was an exciting and wonderful event. The almost lost balance of the universe started going back to its roots as the harmony between humans and the wondrous creatures, Pokémon, returned to its full bliss once again. With Ghetsis going crazy due some sort of "unfulfilled prophecy" and five of the Plasma sages being captured - things started going back to normal. Despite the majority of grunts fleeing together with two of the sages, the people of Unova decided to make the best out of situation.

Indeed, things seemed to go back at normal. What they didn't know was that the end of Plasma meant the beginning, or so to say - birth of something new. Something much more terrifying, something originating from the over 300 millions years old past.

They're moving in shadows, like ghosts, safe from any sort of danger or catastrophe. Why? Because they are the danger, they are the catastrophe. And they're just waiting for the right opportunity to announce their presence to the world.

Their name shall rise again - for the sake of Giovanni.

Having their paths intertwined by fate, three teenagers head off on their first journey across the land thus beginning a story of adventure, friendship, love, sadness and darkness. How will these three people face the world as they face their own challenges along the way? How will they face the weaknesses inside of their own heart and soul?

Only time will tell.

Silence was in the air of that mildly warm Sunday morning. Having got up in order to visit the lab of the somewhat famous professor Juniper, he quickly found out that Nuvema town wasn't as small as he thought it would be.

"What the...? I thought this place was smaller than Pallet town?" He thought to himself as he looked around.

This place definitely wasn't as a small as he was expecting it to be. Truth to be told, it was a nice comfy place to live with a magnificent view on the gorgeous sea but all of that didn't really help him in finding the lab.

"I better start looking if I want to meet professor Juniper," he thought again.

"Well, when they said about 'traveling across the land, searching far and wide,' they weren't kidding," a young soon-to-be Trainer sighed as he entered the small, quiet town of Accumula, "Where the heck is Nuvema Town?" He looked at the display of his purple C-Gear to check the map.

"...oh, it's not that far. I feel kind of silly now."

Determined to start his adventure, he began sprinting on to Route 1.

Just a little further, he thought as he sprinted down the trail, jumping over small rocks and other obstacles, But why am I not this athletic any other time? Am I really that anxious to do this?

She had gotten up early this morning. Excited about starting her journey, she had wanted to make sure to be the first in the lab to choose her starter Pokémon.

Inside of the lab, Professor Juniper presented to her all of the Unova starters.

"And since you were the first one to arrive at my lab, you also get to choose your Pokémon first!" said Juniper with a wink.

Staring at each of them carefully, she didn't take too long to make a decision. One particular green Pokémon, with a snake-like appearance and a proud look on its face, caught her attention.

She turned to Professor Juniper, a bright smile on her face.

"I choose Snivy!"

One, two, ten minutes have passed since and it seemed like his search wasn't going to be over anytime soon. But then suddenly; "The lab!" He said to himself suddenly noticing that he started sweating heavily. He may have been a clumsy fool but there was no way that he wouldn't notice a sign big such as this one. He read the notice on the sign once again, carefully, after which he breathed heavily in and out. His hands began shaking but a sudden encouragament from his mind somehow relaxed his body. The boy named Benjamin breathed in and out once again before leaning his hand on the doorknob.

Remember, this is your time. You need to change, this is the first step towards doing it! He said so to himself.

"Here we go," he mumbled. The door opened as he finally stepped into the room, this specific smell overwhelmed his sense - a perfume. Soon his body started trembling again. Two people, both unknown to him, one which is a pretty girl of his own age. The scent of the perfume was overwhelming him, he felt like he was going to faint at the spot. Stay cool! Just say 'hello'! He said to himself.

"Um ... hi." Benjamin stuttered closing the door behind him. He was getting nervous again.

"Nuvema Town, huh?" the other boy said as he slowed to walking pace; he had just entered the perimeter of the town.

"Seems kinda small...then again, I grew up in Castelia. Anyway, I guess I'd better find the lab."

After several minutes of looking around, he had arrived outside the lab.

"Well...here we go," he muttered a bit nervously, reaching for the door handle and turning it.

The girl turned her around to see a boy who looked kind of young for his age, but his blue eyes were what stood out the most to her. She didn't notice however the nervousness on his pale face.

With a confident smile, she waved to the boy.
"Hi, I'm Melissa! What's your name?"

Opening the door slowly, the other boy entered the lab. He saw Juniper, along with two others who looked about his age.

I didn't expect this, he thought, quietly gulping as he stepped inside.

Even though only a short while passed since he arrived, it seemed like eternity to him. Especially when the unknown girl, Melissa, started talking to him. Ben was never good with people and once the other boy rushed into the lab, things seemed to worsen for him. Startled by the appearance of a second teenager he slowly but nervously moved to the side of the lab hoping Melissa will forget what she asked.

I just need to get out of here with my starter, pronto he thought.

"Um, professor Juniper? I'm here to pick up my starter Pokémon!" He forced himself to speak normally without any tension.

The gentle-looking woman exchanged looks with each of the three teens grinning cheerfully. She finally had all three of them together.

Melissa got a bit surprised at how the boy just ignored her. She then noticed another boy who had just gotten inside the lab, and she started to wonder if all teenage trainers were supposed to be this cold and distant.

She simply smiled at the other boy, uncertain about how this one would react.

The boy noticed Melissa's smile. He blushed slightly.

Oh gosh, wasn't expecting that, either, he thought. Today is just full of surprises, isn't it?

"U-um...hello, Professor...and others," he said, "My name is Kyle. And I'm here to get my starter Pokémon."

Kyle, huh?

Ben wondered noticing that unlike him, Kyle didn't seem to feel as uncomfortable around Melissa. Of course, others teenage boys were all normal - not like him.

"Well, well - the day has finally come!" She spoke up grabbing the attention of three teens in a second. "Melissa, Kyle, Benjamin," he suddenly got the feeling that other two teens looked at him, but he didn't want to look. It was kinda pathetic though, this was meant to be a start of great changes for him. Perhaps were the changes awaiting him during his journey? Whatever it was, this didn't seem the right point for him to make friends.

"You are all here for the same reason - to get your first Pokémon! A companion with whom you'll share your love and sadness, a partner with whom you'll be able to share your memories of adventure. Let's begin shall we? Since Melissa arrived at the lab first, I allowed her to pick the first starter."

His body shivered. Don't tell me she picked ...? His intuition sadly turned out to be correct as he suddenly noticed one tiny, rather smug-looking snake Pokémon standing by her legs. Snivy turned its head smugly jumping into Melissa's arms. She got the Pokémon he was intending to pick, the only one he knew something about.

"Now that's she the owner of one amazing Snivy, you two will have to settle who gets Oshawott and who Tepig."

He exchanged looks with Kyle and decided to let things go with their flow.

"Um, Kyle can pick first," he said, not wishing any complications.

"I'll take Oshawott, please," Kyle said, doing his best to maintain eye contact with the Professor.

"I guess that leaves me with Tepig ... awesome," Ben responded with traces of irony in his voice, clearly not fond of the tiny fire Pokémon.

Professor Juniper nodded handling the respective Poké Balls to each trainer. Kyle somewhat shakily but in excited way accepted his Poké ball as Ben only wished to escape from that place. Taking the Poké ball, he decided to flee.

"Alright, I guess that was it! Bye"

But just as he rushed to the door Melissa interrupted him. "Don't you think you forgot something?" Ben stopped at her words turning around to see Juniper holding a somewhat complex device in her hand. It was unlike the ones he saw in Kanto, it was much cooler looking and it looked high-tech as well. And then it dawned to him, he couldn't have left the lab without a Pokédex.

Ben hastily took the Pokédex, avoiding eye contact with the three people staring at him, and hurried outside without saying a word.

Melissa just stood there, blinking. What is wrong with him?, she thought. She turned to Kyle and Juniper with a confused look on her face.

"Well, thank you for everything, Professor Juniper. I'll be heading off on my journey now", she said.

Juniper smiled, "I wish you the best of luck on your journey, Melissa."

As independent as she was, Melissa had planned to go on this adventure on her own. Still holding her Snivy with one hand on her shoulder, she waved to Kyle.

"Good luck on your journey too, Kyle!" she said walking towards the door.

Kyle was startled slightly by Melissa's wish of encouragement. He received his Pokédex from the Professor, and then headed for the door.

"W-wait up!" he exclaimed as he hurriedly exited the lab.

What do I do now? Where do I go next?

Relaxation overcame his body ever since he left the lab. His heart started pumping normally as the nervousness left him. But right now he was just wandering around town wondering what to do next.

"I guess it's time for us to finally meet!"

Ben yelled throwing the Poké Ball in the air, it was an amazing feeling doing it. He always wished to do that ever since he saw it on TV. The red and white sphere opened releasing a flash of white light until a tiny pig Pokémon materialized; it was cute in an oddly kind of way with dark patches over its reddish orange body. Tepig looked around sniffing at the ground, moving its tiny curly tail back and forth it as it looked up at Ben.

"Ah yes, I need to kneel down," he grinned. "Tepig, my name is Ben - I am your new trainer!"

Tepig jumped off the ground in excitement starting to run around him. "Well, aren't you an ecstatic one," Benjamin chuckled to himself.

The world seemed less scarier than before.

When she got outside the lab, Melissa was expecting to see Ben, but the strange boy was nowhere to be seen. He really ran away from us.

She finally shrugged her thoughts off, and giggling cheerfully she took her new companion in her hands.
"We're going to live one awesome adventure together, Snivy!"

"Sni-vy!" The grass snake Pokémon seemed happy too.

"Wait!" a voice said in her back.

Melissa turned around and she saw Kyle, the lab door closing behind him.

"Where are you off to?" Kyle asked as he caught up, gradually slowing to a jog, then a walk, then a full stop. "Are you going to get Gym Badges, or...?"

Melissa got a bit startled at his question. Used to do things on her own, she wondered why the boy wanted to know more about her. She replied in a friendly tone however, always ready to have a conversation with people.

"I'll travel around Unova. I want to visit all places. You see, I love traveling".

There was a pause. She didn't want to get into too much details.

"You?" she finally asked.
