Do you ever make hypothetical teams based on or for some of your favorite non-Pokémon characters? Or teams themed around a particular career or place? A favorite piece of media? A period of history or musical genre or fashion subculture?

I do this all the time, haha! It’s one of my favorite Pokémon based pastimes that doesn’t involve any actual official Pokémon media!

I’m currently in the process of trying to figure out a team inspired by the vibes of the Kirby series… not necessarily having a specific Pokémon to represent specific Kirby characters, but a smattering of Pokémon that evoke the feeling of the Kirby world and cast just broadly!

Swalot? Musharna? Pawniard? Eiscue? Luna tone for sure…. Hatenna, maybe?

i actually make a lot of pokemon teams for media i like since its just really fun to me to ponder what i think they'd like + what symbolism you can do with evolutions, dex entries, etc etc.

i also made myself a mono-type fire team based on my favs. bc i love my fire types!

i haven't really done much "themed" teams like this but i might come back to this thread when i've done some ocs. actually i HAVE some oc teams:

I really love themed teams. I want to do more! I'm obsessed with that professional thief team.
The most theme I've done is with nicknames - I had a tea themed omega ruby playthrough with the following members:
Thistle the sceptile
Teapot the masquerain
Vesi the azumarill (Vesi is Finnish for water)
Spoon the claydol
Kettle the torkoal
Matcha the kecleon

Hell yes, I love a monotype team!!! Also I’m curious if the OC Pokémon picks are just based on which ones you think would be the characters’ favorites or if there’s storytelling in the choices that isn’t necessarily clear to someone who doesn’t know the OCs! If so, do you wanna elaborate? I love hearing the reason behind thematic or narrative Pokémon choices.

THIS IS SUCH A CUTE NAMING SCHEME…. I’ve done a few food-only, herb-only, and drink-only nickname themed runs before but I’ve never done a whole teatime!! adorable…

my sister is a pretty big kirby fan and i was showing them pokemon horizons which strongly features the pokemon hatenna and we both commented that it felt like a kirby character lol. you do mention hatenna after this but i wanted to share this tidbit about my sister LOL

i love everyone’s theme teams! sometimes i like to sit down and make teams i think characters i like from other franchises would have, if that counts? i recently assigned monotype pokemon teams to all 5 ave mujica band members with an eeveelution at the helm for each… mostly because i wanted sakiko to have glaceon and mutsumi to have leafeon as a sort of duality thing. it was a fun exercise

Food allergens. I was trying to make some Pokémon teams related to my music interests, but got sidetracked lol

Obstagoon. Closest to the godfather of shock rock himself.

Darkrai. (Welcome to My Nightmare/Welcome 2 My Nightmare)
Revavroom (Road)
Seviper (Constrictor/Killer)
Araquanid (Along Came A Spider)

There's plenty of Pokémon I could choose to represent different songs and albums and all that, but I'm choosing these albums for now.
