There has only been one Sinnoh Gym battle this year.

(I got this topic from serebii)

According to Bulbapedia, the Ash Vs. Byron episode aired in Japan on December 25, 2008.

That means the Candice Gym battle was the only Gym in all of 2009. I think this is the only time in the shows history where Ash only got to do a single Gym in an entire year.

To me i just find this ridiculous. it just shows how much some fillers can drag the show down. Lets not forget we still got Ash's Sinnoh ledge and Dawn's grand festival to go. If this keep at this rate we might be at Dawn's grand festival this time next year.

Am i the only one who finds this shocking?

We don't have a single 5th gen Pokemon revealed yet, that's why.

With the lack of any new generation anytime soon, the writers have to stretch Sinnoh out to 200+ episodes. On one hand the writers don't really have a choice, its not their fault the gap between gens is so big, but on the other hand I agree they're running out of ways to pad the extra time.

Nothing can be done about it.

HAHAHA, fun seeing your thread, eh Scotty?

Its scary how much Diamond and Pearl wants to cement itself in our minds. We're still in the main series after all (compared to 3rd Gen.'s Hoenn and Battle Frontier). But if you were to graph it, D&P has been on a steady incline. It just means more fond memories for us to enjoy.

Huh... well, when put into perspective this way, it does look like they are really trying to stall.

Even though they've been going at a slow pace, it doesn't really feel like it because of all the other stuff that they've done during the year. I think that this was a very action packed year of the anime even with only one Gym battle. It's not like there's even been a lot of filler.

Wow... never noticed that fact.

I never knew this year was chock-full of fillers and one Gym battle. Seriously, if you watch enough of those (especially the bad ones), you'll go nuts.

You say that the fillers "drag the show down," but really...what's the basis of that opinion? I mean, in 2009 alone, we had:

- The Iron Island arc.
- Pluto debuts.
- Hikari gets her fourth ribbon.
- Satoshi's Mukubird evolves into Mukuhawk.
- Satoshi gets his first victory against Shinji in the PokeRinger competition.
- We learn that Potchama will never evolve.
- Kengo finally wins a Contest against Hikari, earning him his fourth ribbon.
- Hikari gives Eteboth to O.
- The Gym Battle against Suzuna. Satoshi gets his seventh badge.
- We learn that Suzuna and Nozomi are childhood friends.
- Jindai reappears and defeats Shinji in a battle.
- Jindai leaves his Regirock, Registeel, and Regice behind in Shin'ou to look over Regigigas.
- Handsome debuts.
- Satoshi and Shinji have their six-on-six battle. Satoshi loses.
- Satoshi's Hikozaru evolves into Moukazaru.
- Satoshi and Takeshi meet Hikari's mother in person.
- Hikari's mother beats Hikari in a battle.
- Hikari meets Orchid-Hakase in person.
- Kurotsugu debuts.
- Pikachu's gender is confirmed, as is Megayanma's.
- Kotone and Kazunari debut.
- Hikari gets a Hinoarashi.
- Kazunari gets a Fukamaru.
- Kojirou wins Musashi her third Contest ribbon.
- The Ginga-Dan finale, which results in J (possibly) dying, Akagi going into another world, and most of the major Ginga-Dan members being arrested.
- We learn how Kojirou and his fiance met.
- Satoshi leaves his Glion with Mitsuzou.
- We learn that Nozomi has collected all five ribbons.
- We learn that Shinji has collected all eight badges.
- Satoshi gets Fukamaru.

I'm sure I'm leaving a lot of things out, like pokemon learning moves and whatnot.

In addition to all that, the show switched to HD, wrapped up a movie trilogy, and went through three ending themes.

But because Satoshi didn't battle some pouty Gym Leader, nothing else matters?

In 2008 Ash battled 4 Gym Leaders (earning 4 badges). With only 2 gyms left, is it really a wonder why Candice was the only gym of 2009?

Eh...

Kinda forgot about those.

Stuff like the contest, the Summer arc, the HGSS arc and resolution of the Team Galactic plot kept things interesting and rank up with Gym Battles.

There may be an argument for poor pacing but that's nothing new. Pokémon filler isn't bad - it's the journey, not the destination, that matters in this show.

While it is weird that there was only Gym battle this entire year, it kinda shows that the writers don't need to rely only on gym battles or contests to form decent plotlines.

Ya, I agree that its not a problem. The Gym battles are nice, but they really aren't the only focus of the show. I mean, Dawn is there too and she had some contest battles. She even got a ribbon! There were also lots of interesting things that happened.

Well, I'm trying to catch up the series; I stopped watching right at the beginning of Johto. And already in Johto I was dismayed that there was such a gap between gyms compared to Kanto... You're telling me it's going to get much much worse? I made a list to compare Kanto with Johto...

As others have said, this has been a year full of plot development, so the fact that there has only been one Gym battle hardly registers. There have been years that were full of Gym battles that didn't have half as much development as as this year has had.

And it doesn't stop there, the final battle seems to be airing sometime in March or at the end. I love em so much.

What the fuck does that have to do with gym battles for fucks sake....

Because Gym battles dictate the pacing of the region. If Sinnoh were to end early, we'd have more Gym battles closer together.

At this point last generation we were already halfway through the Battle Frontier arc. Whereas now since the 5th gen is so far off, Sinnoh's Gyms are far apart to make the region longer.

So a quick n' dirty Sinnoh that prematurely ejac--"finishes up" all of its Gyms in one go meaning a new filler saga for people to bitch about, or a drawn out Sinnoh saga that gives us blue balls as we anticipate each Gym and tie up lose ends to every piece of plot... for people to bitch about.

My my, it's lose-lose, isn't it?! Well shit, they better bring out the 5th Gen. Pokies now to calm the writhing masses' fury!

NO. In the end the design will be hated by everyone. Only the few left will see how masterpiece it really is.
