There might only be 24 eps of DP left by my count

So I've decided to count up the Thursdays from now up till the third week of September, and there are 24 Thursdays, meaning 24 possible DP eps left. This is assuming there aren't any breaks or double airings without a break.

However in July they'll likely air the previous movie on TV in Japan taking up a week, (they always do it each year) so that means 23 possible episodes.

However this is assuming the games come out September 23rd. If we're looking at a November release (which I hope), it would give the writers almost 30 eps to wrap up DP with.

30 eps sounds like a better way to give DP an ending rather than 23 eps, and it would give the writers time for something extra after the league. In any case, its hard to imagine DP will be over in about 23+ or so episodes. DP as a whole would end somewhere around 195 episodes, just slightly higher than AG's 191 episode count.

Your count is slightly off. If there is a break on July 8 and the first episode of the new series airs on September 23, DP will have had 22 more episodes than the number to date, bringing the total up to 193. If the new series starts on September 30, the last DP episode will be numbered 194.

This is also assuming that there won't be a break the week before the game release so as to accommodate a special for the beginning of the new series. The last AG episode aired two weeks before DP's release due to that.

I wonder what you have in mind. You've never mentioned that before.

Seeing as there is still 3 Major events:

1. Grand Festival
2.8th Gym battle
3. League

I'm sure they can squeeze them in the 22 or so episode gap.

"Assuming there are no breaks?" There are always breaks in June due to baseball.

Still, to make up for those, they'll probably do an hour long special or two, so I guess it doesn't really matter.

I don't get why they can't have a december releases... but whatever. This is still plenty of time.

This theory is being proposed purely to allow a scenario where an Elite Four arc is possible. If the games are released late in the year, it won't be a result of anything having to do with the anime.

Not only have September releases been beneficial sales-wise (it allows for two surges in weekly sales: the month of release and the holidays period, rather than combining them), but in this particular case Generation V should be released as far ahead of the 3DS' launch as possible. The only reason for a late release would be if Game Freak couldn't get the games ready on time, but that possibility will be ruled out if we get the first big news next week (as opposed to next month, as was the case for Diamond and Pearl).

I've just gotta ask... Is it really that much fun to count episodes?

Myself... I just sorta let things come as they come. We don't know how things are going to pan out! There could be some radical decision that completely alters the way we get our episodes which happens outside our expectations!

"There are precisely 32.5 episodes remaining. 4 and 3-quarters are being devoted to the Grand Festival. If you take the projected amount of 10 episodes for the League and divide it by the circumference of a Poke Ball, subtract that from every Thursday beginning at EXACTLY September 14th, and then multiply that equation by the number of stripes on a Beedrill's ass, you get this totally factual and arbitrary sum. This leaves them 1.21 Gigawatts of remaining computing power left to put towards fictional stories and other completely fabricated cartoons."

Just watch the damn show!

I never got math until this very moment

V Faction - I love you XD
But I'm a little crazy myself so I'll count the remaining eps too:
April: We know this month will end with DP 174 - the first GF ep
May: 4 episodes - all for the GF
June: 4 eps - filler, Sunyshore Gym (2 eps), filler
July: 3 eps (5 days, I think we'll get 2 breaks) - 2 fillers, League part 1
August: 4 eps - League part 2-5
September: 5 eps - League part 6-7, 2 eps to end DP, first ep of gen 5
193 eps if I'm right... of course, if they'll do more breaks without doubles to make up or if the games are released earlier in September - DP may end up being even shorter than that
193 - 2 recap eps = 191 = EQUAL to AG (not counting AG's one recap ep)

Scott pointing out the obvious? Not ranting on nonsensical things on how we've gone so and so episodes without so and so? No Pokemon cameos being insults to older Pokemon? By golly I leave for a week and he gains a brain!
Seriously though only 24 episodes ain't a bad thing, we've known Sinnoh is going to have this much time left for months.

Piplup, you don't no how long the DP series will be and there is noway it will end up being short like the AG series, which is not even part of this series anyways.

The AG saga don't really count since the DP and AG series are two different sagas not the same in one.

I am still not sure what they are planning on doing after the league. I am still hoping for a New Battle Frontier but obviously theres a pretty big part saying nooooo. Still wishing lol.

If the episodes are on course for ending soon then I am not sure what they are going to do. I mean it has been said that the Gen V games would be released this year so does that mean the anime would follow or are we going to have some large filler episodes.

I still kinda wanna see if Misty will follow them for a couple of episodes and meet Dawn.

Hello, Emanuel! Is this your 999 user or maybe you already made it to 1000 ? At least you bothered to use a different avatar this time!

I am still not sure what they are planning on doing after the league.

Who says we're supposed to get anything after the League? The League is usually the end of each saga... and they officially announced the upcoming eps of GF/Sunyshore/League are the DP series CLIMAX
And we KNOW the new gen games will be released this year, probably in September...

If anything, there's a little chance for E4 but I doubt that would happen either... BF has no chance at all

Gen V games would be released this year so does that mean the anime would follow or are we going to have some large filler episodes.

Let's see...
The day RS were released, the AG series started
The day DP were released, the DP series started
Yeah, the day gen 5 will be released, the new series will start

I still kinda wanna see if Misty will follow them for a couple of episodes and meet Dawn.

Misty might appear for an ep or two at the end of DP (and possibly get a cameo watching the Sinnoh League) but I'm not sure about meeting Dawn

EDIT:
I just thought about something... If I'm right and DP will be about 193 eps, (which IS sure unless gen 5 isn't in September which is unlikely) that means season 13 would have only 36-37 DP episodes! What do you think they'll do in such case? other than season 9 that was 47 eps and season 10 that was 51 (12 will possibly be 51 too) all seasons are exactly 52 eps
Will they make it a short season just so next gen won't start at the middle of the season (similar to how they made season 9 47 eps, but that's different because it's close to 52) or will they continue gen 5 as part of the same season similar to season 6 who was Johto+Hoenn?

Season 13 doesn't even exist yet. Season 12 will go until the end of DP, just like how Season 5 went to the end of Johto.

What are you talking about? Season 13 will start with either the second Gible ep or the Magnezone ep and season 5 did NOT include the end of Johto
I'm sick of people going by stupid fan made "seasons" based on opening songs instead of using the real official season
Season 1 - 52 episodes (Kanto)
Season 2 - 52 episodes (Kanto + Orange)
Season 3 - 52 episodes (Orange + Johto)
Season 4 - 52 episodes (Johto)
Season 5 - 52 episodes (Johto)
Season 6 - 52 episodes (Johto + Hoenn)
Season 7 - 52 episodes (Hoenn)
Season 8 - 52 episodes (Hoenn + BF)
Season 9 - 47 episodes (BF)
Season 10 - 51 episodes (Sinnoh)
Season 11 - 52 episodes (Sinnoh)
Season 12 - 51 or 52 episodes (Sinnoh) depends if they'll end the season with the first Gible ep or the second one

What is actually the point of this thread? Scott clearly made it to hint at the possibility of an E4 arc after the league, which route should it eventually go down, it will just be a duplicate of the same conversation between Scott and Piplup that has happened in pretty much every thread in this forum.

And if you take it at face value i.e. there are likely to be just over 20 eps left of DP, it basically has no purpose at all as it's stating the obvious. Why does that need a thread to itself?

(Although, I will lol if the dub's seasons get ruined because of the number of eps in season 13. HA HA!)

Seasons 2, 3, 6, and 8 weren't "ruined" by including episodes from two different regions. I don't see any reason why Season 13 would be any different.

I didn't say anything about "ruining" a season, but they clearly didn't want DP to start in season 9 - so I wouldn't be surprised if they won't want gen 5 to start in season 13
they also seem to stick to the fans idea that OP=season since season 7 so yeah...
It could go either way... but I doubt they'd make a season less than 40 eps so I agree it'll probably be like season 6 (I find it more similar than 2 or 3 since it'll be a new gen unlike in 2, and will probably give us a brand new main character unlike 3)

Maybe they can keep it to this thread now? This seems like the perfect place for a "discuss the pace of the last few months of DP" discussion as opposed to the episode review threads.

I think there's still time for an E4 arc after the Sinnoh league.

Think of it this way, why would the writers end DP so abruptly right after the league? I know Johto did that, but Johto didn't have any major plots at the time and Ash's Johto Pokemon were wasted anyway.

Here in Sinnoh, Gible still needs screentime (it likely won't stay for Gen V), and Ash has to use his Kanto/Hoenn Pokemon before DP ends. How is that to happen?
