There was a portal over Norway....

It's not a portal.
And considering plenty of people have SEEN IT in real life over half of Norway (really we're not all liars -.- No I didn't see it since I live too far south) it can't be photoshopped.

Scientists believe its some kind of rocket, possibly with a malfunction. They suspect a new kind from Russia. (Since they thought it came from that direction)

Photoshopped? No, there's far too many witnesses for that. I'm sticking with the rocket-theory, sounds reasonable. But the Russians deny it. Maybe I would too if I were testing a rocket, but still. Again, I await an explanation, but I doubt it's really too much out of the ordinary.

Well Obama is supposed to be coming in a few days...maybe there's terrorists...then again it wouldn't make much sense for them to be sending up rockets in North when Obama is coming to Oslo (which is pretty much the other side of the country).
Maybe the russians did indeed screw up something and don't want to admit it:p Or a terrorist with a very lousy sense of direction.

Terrorists in the north? Nah, then I'd pity the terrorists trying to do something up there... But it'd draw away attention against Oslo, but nevertheless it would mean an epic fail. Still, the odds of actually performing the attack increases by tenfolds by just getting out of the majors cities in this country...

To (somewhat) get back to topic.
The Russian North Fleet says they haven't launched a rocket. They could hide it. Could it be some kind of lasers?

Wait what the fucking hell is that.

Just what.

(hopes someone gets the reference)

Also, wouldn't this be better suited for Sci/Tech?

Oh that's what i thought when i saw the title of the thread

well the Black Mesa Incident is happening from CERN

How the hell could a rocket create something like that? What the hell was that anyways?

Just... wow.

A star exploding? Yes, that makes perfect sense. After all, when stars explode they shoot this blue beam out to create this odd spiral effect. Yep, makes perfect sense.

...

/sarcasm

If it was an exploding star I'm a bit surprised/disappointed its only visible in Northern Norway...
I found another explanation:
Nettby (Norwegian website) said:
En teori er at russerne har ved en feil sendt opp en rakett. Når den eksploderte ble drivstoffet spredt rundt den. Deretter lyste sola på drivstoffet, og så skjedde dette rare fenomenet.
Translating since I bet 90% of this forum don't speak Norwegian:
A theory states that the Russians sent up a rocket by accident. When it exploded the fuel spread out around it and the sun lit it up causing the strange phenomenon.

The sun probably wasn't up at the time espesially that far North but I guess some rays could have hit it, after all we can still see the moon clear on the night sky, so I guess it would depend how far up it is.
Other comments also state that the Russians have admited the error, then again some say they don't, could be a new revelation that came after I heard it on the radio earlier today though (when it said the Russians didn't know... Why didn't they? Have you seen how big Russia is? I doubt whoever they ask could have kept track of what goes on all over it.)

I'd have to agree, though I was thinking more along the lines of Aperture science, rather than Black Mesa or the combine.

(Goes back on topic)

That's a really interesting effect, while it looks exactly like a 90's CG beta effect, its perfectly plausible that the cloud fixtures could adjust due to global warming or something and come out with a water droplet effect.

But overall, I had no idea something like that could occur IRL in the clouds or mist or something.

The Russians failed again. The only really rational explanation to this. That missile sure isn't going anywhere with all those failures. Perhaps that would be preferable though. We get nice firework, they don't get any new weapons.

Another boring explanation. I was actually hoping for ufo's.

I'm confused...does this have anything to do with Obama accepting his nobel peace prize? That's all I know about what's going on in Scandinavia.

Well, that was random. Did you even read the opening bit of news?
