Like with May/Dawn so that we don't have to go through situations again where Ash scans Pokemon we already know and then the kids will still get the information or whatever and we don't facepalm at Ash when he screens Pokemon he owns.

I never facepalm when he screens a Pokemon. A lot of the time it's Pokemon he hasn't seen in awhile, and the true reason they do it is for the viewers who have never actually seen that Pokemon before. I don't see why people get so angry over the writers trying to help out the younger crowd.

He scans a Buizel and a Corphish.

He screened a Corphish in BW099, but that's as much as I remember. He usually acknowledges he knows which Pokemon he's scanning, though, like when he scanned Koffing.

The only benefit I see is having the characters have a handy identification tool when Ash isn't around, even if those instances would not come up often. Who scans what Pokemon is usually irrelevant to me.

People are always going to complain, though, as long as the anime fails to live up to whatever weird standards they've developed in their minds. I say they should, if only because it gives them a vehicle to present background information on Pokemon that have already debuted without seeing a million screenshots of Satoshi doing it alongside snide commentary by former fans.

In BW031 he scans a Palpitoad.
And in BW032 he scans a Palpitoad again.
But sure, give one of them a Pokedex, I am fine with that. People will probabaly complain, but they complain anyways so what is the difference?

If one of his new companions is a new trainer who receives a starter Pokémon from the regional professor, then it'll happen. Otherwise, I don't see it happening.
