Things from the beginning of DP that were forgotten about

Given Sinnoh has gone on for so long, I noticed the writers forgot about some things they started at the beginning of DP:

1) What happened to Croagunk and Buizel's rivalry? If you watch the early eps and the one where Buizel loses to Lucian, Croagunk snickers at Buizel. A few other eps showed Croagunk and Buizel not like each other. There was also an ending theme at the time showing Croagunk and Buizel hating each other. What happened to this?

2) What happened to the soothe bells Ash won from the tag battle tournament? He showed one to Dawn and it was never spoken of again. Considering those could be used for Buneary to evolve, its weird it was forgotten.

3) Conway...Holly...are they gone for good? I'd hoped we'd see Conway again, but I don't know at this point.

4) Nando. What was the point of building him as being a rival to both Ash and Dawn if we never see him?

5) What the hell was the point of Aipom/Ambipom? I'm rewatching early DP and seeing all the development and spotlight it went through. Why make so many episodes about it if you're just going to get rid of it?

6) Butch/Cassidy. They got one random episode in Sinnoh and never appeared again. Are TR in the Sinnoh region or not?

Discuss.

But we saw Kouhei at the summer school. That was... over a year ago, but still!

I don't know. I guess Buizel shifted out of focus a bit.

Chekhov's gun, probably. Though I wouldn't count being like the GS Ball out.
3) Conway...Holly...are they gone for good? I'd hoped we'd see Conway again, but I don't know at this point.
Holly's probably gone. Conway might come back. I hope so. I like his creepiness.
4) Nando. What was the point of building him as being a rival to both Ash and Dawn if we never see him?
They probably realized how bad of a character he was, or decided they wanted to develop their individual rivals instead.
6) Butch/Cassidy. They got one random episode in Sinnoh and never appeared again. Are TR in the Sinnoh region or not?
I think they just have better things to do than follow around Ash and company. They might show up again, or they might not. It just depends if the writers want them to run into each other again.

Not really, they ddin't forget anything

1) What happened to Croagunk and Buizel's rivalry? If you watch the early eps and the one where Buizel loses to Lucian, Croagunk snickers at Buizel. Said "rivalry" was ONLY in ONE episode and ONE ending
They never even tried to make it a recurring thing like Buneary's love for Pika or Piplup being proud and so on

2) What happened to the soothe bells Ash won from the tag battle tournament? He showed one to Dawn and it was never spoken of again. Considering those could be used for Buneary to evolve, its weird it was forgotten.

The Soothe Bell is NOT an evolution item like the stones
It raise the friendship and can also help to evolve a Poké that need friendship to evolve - and all of this is in games
The anime didn't say anything about the bell other than how relaxing it is or something like that
Also, the writers probably will never evolve the bunny so it doesn't matter

Why the Johto would Ash bring up the bells all of a sudden?
What I do want and kind of expect to happen is that after Ash beat Paul in the Sinnoh League, Ash give Paul his Soothe Bell
Other than this there's really nothing to do with them

3) Conway...Holly...are they gone for good? I'd hoped we'd see Conway again, but I don't know at this point.

Conway already got another appearance and I think that was enough... Holly is the one that really need to appear again but it probably won't happen (though I still hope)
That still doesn't mean the writers "forgot" them, they just didn't want them to appear again

4) Nando. What was the point of building him as being a rival to both Ash and Dawn if we never see him?

He wasn't "forgotten" as DP106 proved
We will see him during the League/GF
Why he doesn't appear regularly like the other rivals? I don't know, maybe the writers eventually didn't really like the idea of an older rival and prefer rivals around the same age as the main characters... so they save him for the League/GF when we anyway usua;lly get older opponents so they won't need to invent new ones (though we might still get these in addition to Nando)

5) What the hell was the point of Aipom/Ambipom? I'm rewatching early DP and seeing all the development and spotlight it went through. Why make so many episodes about it if you're just going to get rid of it?

Nothing was changed because it left, the point was to showcase a trade between main characters for the first time (promotes trades in games, logical to do now that players can trade with people around the world), showcase a new Pokémon (Ambipom) and a new way of evolution (by learning an attack), to explain how Pokémon aren't battle machines that do what they trainer say and they might actually prefer to do something else, etc
Nothing was changed other than the fact the writers did a very stupid decision when it left, but these reasons for Ambi to exist still remain the same

6) Butch/Cassidy. They got one random episode in Sinnoh and never appeared again. Are TR in the Sinnoh region or not?

They were probably just sent there as a one time mission by Nanba and are back in Kanto/Johto now
During AG the writers had the side story eps (Chronicles) so they could stick them there
This time they don't have such thing so they throwed an ep for Cassidy and Butch, I don't think anyone thought they'll continue to appear... they probably won't appear again until next saga begin

So no, nothing was forgotten

7) In the tag battle tournament, didn't Conway say something like, "Ash is the enemy" or something along those lines? I remember people speculating Conway was going to be a major character back then.

8) Also, what happened to the battle Fantina promised Dawn? I have to LMAO that Fantina promised Dawn a battle and she never got one.

The dub got that wrong. It's that he's NOT the enemy.

Either way it doesn't really mean anything, I doubt the writers had secret intentions for that single line that some fans insist to think was supposed to hint at anything...

And now let's prove wrong the last thing Scott mentioned:

8) Also, what happened to the battle Fantina promised Dawn? I have to LMAO that Fantina promised Dawn a battle and she never got one.

Did she even promise a battle for Dawn? I'm not sure
Even if she did... it's a usual thing in this show to promise a battle
The next time the twerps met Fantina was in Barry's next ep and she couldn't battle that ep as she told Ash... and the next ep Ash had his Gym Battle so she wouldn't be able to battle Dawn on that day either... and the day after that they went to Canalave
So Dawn didn't really have a chance to battle Fantina
I did hope they'll battle but that's exaggeration to call that the writers "forgetting" something

Seriously Scott, just enjoy the show
Stop searching for stuff to complain about, that's really crazy and exaggerated

9) Also why did they show the trainer with the Probopass in Fantina's episode? We originally believed he was a filler character, yet he re-appeared in an image where he lost to Fantina. I forgot the guys name.

The dub got that wrong. It's that he's NOT the enemy.

no, he did say something like that in the Japanese version. Though I couldn't tell if he was saying it like "They are not the enemy" or "Aren't they the enemy?" Japan's usage of "ja nai" can be a bit ambiguous that way (but as I just demonstrated, it's not all that different from English).

As for Yamato and Kosaburou, why would you suggest they're a "forgotten plot"? If they haven't been forgotten since their first appearance, they sure as hell aren't forgotten now. The simple fact of the matter is: they're recurring characters relegated to an appearance every hundred episodes or so. They haven't been appearing lately? They probably might not appear again anytime soon, but we do know they'll pop up again somewhere down the road eventually. As for whether they'll appear in Shin'ou again, who knows? So long as Shin'ou's still going, I wouldn't really think much about it, it's still not like they're particularly overdue for a reappearance (at least when you consider how long they usually go without so much as a mention).

9) Also why did they show the trainer with the Probopass in Fantina's episode? We originally believed he was a filler character, yet he re-appeared in an image where he lost to Fantina. I forgot the guys name.

*facepalm*
It won't stop...
1. Allan
2. Why not? continuity can't hurt anyone
3. "we believed he was filler"... WE? You=/=We... I always said he might return as a rival since he clearly said he's collecting badges too (just like Leona, who I still think might return as a rival for Ash too)
4. How the Johto is that related to the writers supposedly "forgetting" stuff when this only proves they did REMEMBER something... even soemthing that according to you is forgetable...

Really Scott, you better stop as you only gets more and more ridiculous with the time
Bring back the old Scott, I liked him much more and I'm sure others agree

I was just going by what Dogasu said in his comparison of the episode.

Can we change this from a "thing that were forgotten" thread to a "things that haven't been touched upon" thread? That way people wouldn't point that out every few posts. :p

Piplup said:
Said "rivalry" was ONLY in ONE episode and ONE ending

No, but it really, really should have been recurring. XD So much comedic potential.

Mushashi said:

After the summer school arc, I'm now convinced he was saying Ash was not the enemy in regards to getting Dawn into his pants. :3

I agree, but I still wouldn't call that a "forgotten plot" or anything like that
Now, if the bunny all of a sudden would never show its love for Pika ever again - THAT will be something that was "forgotten"
Not something that lasted for less than a minute in one episode and a little scene in an ending

9) Also why did they show the trainer with the Probopass in Fantina's episode? We originally believed he was a filler character, yet he re-appeared in an image where he lost to Fantina. I forgot the guys name.
Later on, he was shown in another freeze frame celebrating his victory over Fantina which he obviously won in a rematch. And I remember Fantina saying that she enjoys seeing trainers fight eargerly or come back for a rematch after training hard.

For the writers, the boy (whose name is Alan btw) served his purpose and that's why they've already forgotten him. He was a classical COD.

^ You reminded me of Dawn's other dresses.

Remember when DP started, it seemed like Dawn was going to wear a different Contest dress each time? And remember our shocking disappointment that she wears that same pink dress from the games in all of them?

Some of the Japanese openings/endings show Dawn in other dresses that she never wears in regular episodes. Its really strange.

They hype up Dawn as if she's constantly going to be into fashion and wear alternate outfits for each contest...and we have to sit through that same pink dress each time. I wish she would just battle in her normal clothes like May did, I'm sick of the dress she wears and it makes contests look too feminine.

Well, Kenny also wears the the same clothes every time. It's always the same outfit that reminds you of a Spanish torero.
And if I'm not mistaken and remember correctly, Zoey doesn't change her clothes, either. But it's been a while since we actually saw her in a contest.
I for one am fine with Dawn's pink dress. I mean, it goes without saying that we mustn't expect a mature woman's look (for example Lila's look in "Battling A Generation Gap". Lila was Dawn's mother's best friend just in case you should have forgotten) from a girl who preferably catches cute Pokemon. If she was just given another dress to underline her fondness for cuteness, would that make a huge difference?
It would be interesting, however, if she wore stuff like a short dress with nice cleavage. Though, this is rather unlikely as I already explained before.

Zoey did have two or three outfits. First that white prince dress, then she wore a red outfit in the Wallace eps. I think she also had a blue outfit in another ep too.
