Donphan appearing in the first movie.

Me: What the....?
Mom: Justin, what Pokémon is that?
Me: .....A Rhyhorn in new armor?


At that point in time I really didn't know much outside of what America was exposed to. I didn't have Internet BTW, I was like.... seven or so.
 
I still remember being completely shocked when I saw the episode where Tailow evolved into Swellow. It's so unexpected and the circumstances under which Tailow evolved was really unusual too.

That episode is now one of my favourites, and I have a screenshot of Ash and his Swellow at the end of the episode too, just because :P .
 
The thing that surprised me was in the 2nd Movie's Short movie when Dragonair came down fllying with it's ear looking fearthers all holded out.

Me and my friend was so surprised. We said at the same time, It can Fly?
 
Torchic evolving into Combusken.

I used to think that they'd just leave May with all cute unevolved Pokemon, so it really surprised me when they turned that cute little Torchic into the fierce-fighting Combusken.

It was for the best too, Combusken is really, really powerful in all its battles.
 
The Battle Frontier was also a very nice surprise - added some more replay value, which is always good.
 
I totally agree with the Donphan in the first movie. When Pokémon was at it fad stage, I just so happened to live in the same area with three other boys my age. So we discussed and argued wtf that thing was. XD I was going with the idea of it being a Nidorino myself. Then a month or so after the movie was in theatres, a read the novelization and it said it was a Donphan. I remember going "Ooooooh..." aloud.

I was surprised at Brock returning too. I was sure we would hardly ever see him again. It was a pleasent surprise, though. ^^ If I remember correctly, was that first said in NA on the Lugia movie video previews?

I was surprised when my sister found a shiny Zubat in Sapphire. >>

Sister: Hey, a green Zubat!
Me: Don't KO it!
Sister: Too late ^^
Me: :O ZOMFG!
 
Oddly enough, Dragonair flying surprised me more than the appearance of Donphan. I honestly don't know why.

Oh god, "Misty's Song." That scared the hell out of me, not to mention that I first heard it when I was playing the whole CD in front of my family and didn't know what to expect....
 
Meeting a Latios unexpectedly during my daily routine. I was so surprised (I thought it was a glitch or my game acting up from all the sharking I've done) but I realized the Latios was real. I chased it around somewhat, then I caught it.

I miss Torchic to a bizarre extent. That's why I'm glad I have a Torchic plushie

I couldn't shut up out it the moment I found out. I was sooo exicted.
 
Ambertwo's death at the end of Origin of Mewtwo. I kinda knew it was coming, having read plot summaries, but wow... first time around, and even now, it just hits you like a ton of bricks. Any fan who didn't cry at the end of it has no soul.
 
When they put that Eldershippy moment (almost blatantly) in Showdown at Oak Corral (I think) ... it's the one where Delia brags that Ash's battling skills run in the family (and that was #2 ... since when does she battle?)

Also, whenever characters say or do somthing after I've posted something similar in my fics
 
Re-watching the first episode and seeing that the Pokemon that Ash saw was Ho-Oh.
 
Watching the Flame Pokemon-atho in English.... half way through the episode, the song Pokemon Ondo (with Japanese lyrics clearly heard) played in the background.
Edward Elric/Elite Trainer Raven saw me point this out and he added that they still painted over the Japanese writing in that same scene

And to hear a bit of Japanese Satoshi speak when English Ash was speaking. It was in the beginning of The Kanghaskan Kid when the Tangela runs across the screen.
 
Didn't Squirtle also say "Zeni Zeni" in one part of the dub of Flame Pokemon-athon?

I believe the biggest shocker was Ash having a Charizard in the first movie. When the movie first came to Norway, I'm not even sure Ash had released Butterfree yet (I KNOW Psyduck hadn't been caught at the time), so the movie was just puking out spoilers I had NO idea were coming, since I didn't even have internet access at the time. I don't think I knew what all the original 151 pokemon looked like at the time either, so Donphan and friends didn't really come as that much of a shock, but CHARIZARD! Oh yeah.
 
Oh yeah, I remember seeing Donphan (this was before I had the internet and knew the movie come outs in Japan)

And everyone at school thought it was a ledgendary. Who knew 8 years later Ash would have one?
 
Ash beating Gary in the Johto league, followed by Gary leaving. That came out of no where, and I still don't think it's valid considering that Ash mostly used pokemon that sat in Professor Oak's lab and/or trained somewhere else for the entire series.

But that's the Gary fan in me.
