The webmaster for Bandai Namco Games has announced that a 26 episode 3D Pac-Man anime television series will premiere in 2012.

Interesting, to say the least...

Perhaps a response to this?

Pac-Man chomps at 3D TV
Avi Arad shows trailer for new show at E3
By CHRIS MORRIS

Avi Arad wants to bring Pac-Man back to television -- and he wants to do it in 3D.
Arad, former CEO of Marvel Studios and now executive adviser for Namco Bandai, showed a three-minute teaser of his vision for the new Pac-Man at an E3 event celebrating the pellet chomper's 30th birthday.

Pac-Man was the star of a Saturday morning cartoon in the 1980s (in the thick of the nation's obsession with the game). Arad, though, hopes to use computer animation and advances in stereoscopic 3D to create a show that speaks to teenagers and tells the story of a hero who doesn't know his own strengths.

"We wanted to keep Pac-Man the same lovable guy he has always been, but (put him) in the 21st century," Arad said. "We (also) wanted to talk about real stories and … see how they can relate to our lives, being in high school and being a teenager. At the end of the day, it's the story of a reluctant hero."

The plot centers around ghosts who are trying to overtake Pac-Man's world. It's up to Pac-Man, who's a high school student, to save the world. In this mission, he'll be assisted by his Pac-friends and four friendly ghosts -- Pinky, Inky, Blinky and Clyde (who were the little guy's archenemies in the original arcade game).Arad said he has not yet approached studios and distributors with the idea, since he and Namco wanted to unveil it at the celebratory event -- and both parties wanted the 3D in the trailer to be done right before showing it to potential TV partners.

"We feel we have a unique opportunity to have an action adventure, human interest story," Arad said. "As a filmmaker, it's a unique opportunity to get to know the characters you play. … We don't know what happened to Pac-Man's parents. He's the only yellow one in Pac-Land; what does that mean? Is it a social statement? We'll find out."

Sounds interesting. I used to watch the original series on Tv back in the day.

Forgive me for sounding like a jaded elitist, but with all the American film adaptations I've seen, I'm already suspecting a forthcoming train wreck.

...I can't imagine Pacman ever being an anime in the first place...

The second part of the first post isn't factually connected to the first part. Therefore, the plot won't necessarily be what is said. We don't know what the plot is for fact, as of yet.

I was hoping that Pac Man's last TV showing was on that episode of Family Guy...

I will watch it, though I know it will be absolutly terrible.

You know what would make a good anime series? Dig-Dug.

If I'm reading this right, everyone else is normal humans...and he's just (arms and legs version?) Pacman?

Poor Pac-Man. I have to cringe whenever Namco try to reinvent him as a 'proper' videogame character. I love the original, but Pac-Man has no character. He's an abstract shape. Any subsequent attempts to imbue him with a character have just been painfully bland, like the parade of awful generic knock-offs that followed in Sonic the Hedgehogs wake ("Hey, kids! Our game has a talking animal too! He's got attitude"). You might as well make a cartoon about the paddles from Pong.

Yeah. Quite popular, even.

...I just can't imagine it. Oh well......

If Pac-Man's getting an anime, I wonder if it would be like Sonic X and only evoke some elements from the games...

(excluding the way it started to adapt into the games later on)

Actually, I've been writing a script for an OVA, and it's actually worked. Maybe I'll post the plot summary later.

There's the trailer for this abomination of a TV series. It looks worse than the 80s series did. Reminds me of Astro Boy on drugs. Bad drugs. Powerpills.

...makes it look like Kirby with a speaking part... -_-'
