Do you think that, in future generations (or maybe mid Gen V for the first time), that there could be third evolutions of certain Pokemon? And if so, which Pokemon do you think deserve a third evolution?

Do you mean as if Gen 5 was gen 1, will gen 6 be like gen 2?

Forget that^

Maybe.. if the Pokemon didn't become to powerful, but I think the closest we'll get is branched evos.

Smogon would sure be unhappy if third evolutions were implemented.
But anyways, no. I doubt it.

If this was done, all Smogon would have to do is create a new tier for the third evos; something like MU (Mega Used).

And/or they'll have to reorganize almost every Pokemon in all other tiers. Not all third evos would be in "MU".

The only Eeveelution that needs that kind of treatment is Flareon.
It wouldn't be a third evolution for Flareon, though. Flareon is only at Stage 1, so Flareon could easily have a Stage 2 evolution before getting to Stage 3.

A lot of would be too overpowered in OU though. They might even beat Ubers.

I do not tike the idea of third evolutions at all. Two evolutions is enough , because I can imagine how much you need to level up a pokemon to reach that stage and yes they would be too overpowered so no. It should stay the way it is now, it is easiest for most Pokemon players.

What, third stages?!!! NEVER!!!! Soon after Pokemon would turn into Digimon, with their five stages of evolving.

No. I only want second evos. Do you see RU? A NEW TIER?! Imagine- an evo for Galvantula. For Darmanitan. For Garbodor. For Sawsbuck. There's be no choice other than to make Gen. VI have it's own tiers, as they'd be above Uber! If this were Gen I going into Gen II, yeah. But here, besides Unova, there are 493 others Pokémon. What we need is evos for single-stagers, like Stunfisk, Alomomola, Druddigon, and branch evos and prevos, like the "Hitmon Treatment" for Throh and Sawk- a prevo and third counterpart.

Third evolutions wouldn't have to be broken at all. They could be given exclusively to Pokémon like Raichu, Butterfree, or Pidgeot, whose stats just aren't up to par with other final forms.

If they made a 4-stage line, it'd have to be a new line introduced in Gen VI. The 4-stage family would also have to be unique to the line.

I've dreamed up some stranger things (granted, it's not even a rule that a family can only have 3 stages, it just happens to be precedent). (One of my blog posts is jumbled up with a bunch of my ideas. Per the "stranger things," one such creation is a pokemon that two pokemon can evolve into.)

I don't understand why people mention the pokemon themselves being broken given they, uh, don't even exist? There are pokemon that even keep their BST after evolving, and enough unevolved yet usable pokemon. Whether a fourth stage is broken or not deppends solely on the pokemon itself.
It could perfectly work for many pokemon, specially those weaker ones or those that could benefit from a similar alternative-- or even just an entirely new line. (Which honestly, would work the best, as all prior pokemon haven't been designed with that possibility in mind)

There's a wide gap between HURR CHARCOLT ENVOLVE INTO POKEGODS and NO POKEMON WILL BE RUINED FOREVER!1

A valid complaint though is the work required to make said pokemon evolve, and the redundancy of the other members of the line, as generally, it goes from basic -> in-training -> final; having two forms in the middle seems pointless with the third seemingly outclassing the second. So, such a line would in fact need to be carefully designed to deal with those problems and given a reason why it needs four individual pokemon, but certainly it can be done right.

It's like the idea of a mayor legendary (such as a version mascot) evolving. It could work without it necessarially being redundant nor overpowered.

I don't see them implanting it, as it could repel some fans away the games.

Yeah, it's neither wanted nor plausible. I don't think adding a fourth stage will accomplish anything for TPCi and Game Freak.

Depends REAAAAALLY on what Pokemon we talk but third evolution in all pokemon... Err no, I can see them exploiting the babies, also... I disagree with them being broken, lots of third evolutions are almost as useless as they were in basic form, others (Thanks Eviolite) execute better than it's last evolution stage.

But well, the only way I could see Smogon peeps being affected is by;

IT HAS NICE STATS, BUT LACKING MOVEPOOL

Guys, duh, they already exist. Or did you forget Charizard evolves into Charcoalt?
