The following is a true story and it is edited in no way, shape or form. This is just to prove how stupid some schools can be, how stupid the rules can be, and just to ask what everyone's opinion on this matter is.

So, I'm taking college classes but I also have two classes at my high school. The other day the guy in charge of school security stops me in the hall. We have the following conversation.

Security: Wait, how many classes do you have here
Me: Two
S: What periods?
M: 5th and 6th.
S: Okay, you can't be here when you don't have class and we can't have you wondering the halls.
M: I'm here for lunch (It is lunchtime, a half hour before 5th period).
S: Ah, okay. Just don't go getting in trouble.

Mostly I'm surprised about how he was able to pick me out of a crowd as a college student. But this isn't the worst of it.

Today, 8:30 in the morning right after my forensics meeting:

Security: Hey, how many classes do you have here?
Me: Two
S: What periods?
M: 5th and 6th.
S: Okay, you can't be here when you don't have class and we can't have you wondering the halls.
M: I'm not wondering the halls. I'm sitting here in the office. And I'm waiting for my mom to come pick me up.
S: Ah, okay. Just don't go getting in trouble.

Seriously. I might have disregarded this if it weren't for the next bit.

8:35. The Principal, whom I'm on good terms with, come over. I'm still in the office, have not moved.

P: Austin, how many classes do you have here?
M: 2
P: What time?
M: 5th and 6th.
P: Okay, so why are you here now?
M: I had Forensics.
P: Okay, well we don't let students stay here when they don't have a class. Did you drive here?
M: No, I got dropped off. I'm actually waiting for my ride right now.
P: Okay, well the way it works is that if you don't have a class, you come for your classes and then leave and come back if needed. If you can't do that you can't do Forensics.
M: Can you explain this too me? I'm lost.
P: Well, we just can't have kids not in class and wandering the halls.

Okay, so I'd like to lay something out. I'm in the school. Voluntarily in the school. I actually have stuff that I'm doing at the school. If I'm there, I'd be in the forensics classroom, not roaming the halls. And she knows this. I still can't be there when I don't have a class.

What the heck? It makes no sense. I'm not doing anything and they automatically get on my case about it. Especially since I've never been a problem kid. I turn in the problem kids, since they all hate me and tend to harass and try to fight me. I have a clean slate. And I'm on good terms with the lady in charge of detention. What would I do? "Hey, Mrs. V. Yeah, I'm here to serve detention for being in the school."

And the real kicker?

A few hours later kids from my school robbed a Safeway and a diner's tip jar during lunch. Those are the kinds of kids who go to my school. So why are they getting on my case for simply being there, doing nothing?

Okay, so what's your guys' take on this? Because I think it's a stupid rule.

I WOULD SMACK A BITCH

hahaha. i think you should make it absolutely clear to them you're not wandering in the halls and waiting for a ride/going to lunch. they might not get it through their skulls without you saying it flat-out, without any fluff. maybe repeat it a few times.

To me it sounds like a bunch of morons run your school.

funny enough, that's what my mother said about the elementary school down the street...

But it's not limited to just the school. The superintendent of the district (which serves only about 2000-2500 kids) gets paid more than the secretary of education for the United States. And he's an idiot.

I don't get it. I really don't 0.0 Can you explain it again?
