The Health Insurance Marketplace Modernization and Affordibility act is yet another piece of Stupid Hateful Idiotic Tactics from the right-wing corporate whores in congress.

This is disgusting. I remember my mother told me Insurance companies are not out to make good on your benefits, they're out to collect your premiums. I've heard the insurance companies be described as one of the most predatory type of company out there. Not now this little son of a bitch from Wyoming wants to blow open the floodgates and remove all restrictions on them.

Even Republicans should be insulted by this. I thought Republicans were in favor of decentralized government with more power towards the states. Well here's a bill supported by a Republican that will weaken the power of the states and increase the powers of the centralized government and it will affect everyone with health insurance. If this doesn't convince you they are lying out their ass I don't know what will.

This bill basically says don't get sick. Don't get sick, don't get injured, don't have anything to do with the health care system because you will get fucked in the ass.

I'm soory but this made me so mad when I heard about it. I'll discuss more when I cool down.

I don't work in the health insurance industry, but from a P&C viewpoint I absolutely love it.

What's P&C mean?

And I hope you never have to go to the emergancy room then.

He'd have premium private health insurance, he wouldn't care.

Honestly, take restrictions off what the insurance companies can charge, and premium's would stay static, or go down, just due to competition, and an inability to charge more than the market is willing to pay. If they join together to raise prices, it's illegal, and they'll lose big time in court.

I forgot. Things that affect us mere mortals doesn't affect the mighty Mozz.

One would hope but this bill would make it hard to get them in court in the first place. But if history serves as a reference, deregulation rarely results in lower prices and better services.

And increasing regulations leads to companies eventually dropping out of states. For reference, see Louisiana homeowners insurance, New Jersey Personal Auto insurance and New York Commercial Property insurance.

In all three cases, states tried to push regulations on insurers. This led to insurers losing money. The states wouldn't let them increase their rates, so they left. Even now in NJ auto we are charged an "excess profit" fee if we perform well. Too bad that doesn't really happen -_-;

EDIT: "P&C" = Property and Casualty Insurance, covering all insurance such as homeowners, commercial auto, property, workers' comp, etc.

Which is why I don't state regulations should be touched at the moment. Right now the regs give room for growth but still provides oversight of the companies. They've reached a happy medium, don't mess with it.

They have? Link?

The fact that insurance companies aren't packing up left and right shows leaving the regs alone is the best way.

Not necessarily. A lot of health insurance companies will stay in exchange for very lucrative business in other fields, such as life, homeowners or auto. The only reason we write personal auto in jersey is to get the great commercial lines business.
