What are they? There is no 3D equivalent. The routes look flat in general, and they just look like brown lines... yet you can bounce off them from one side and not be able to pass from the other side.

The road looking flat is most likely an effect of the 2D setting.

Most likely the road slopes up at a gentle angle (probably human work) whereas the wild terrain out there has sharper drops that you can relatively safely jumps down from (if you're careful), but can't simply jump over.

That gives me an idea for a new HM. Rock Climb!

Oh. I can see it now. It still looks weird, though. And the bouncing does not fit.

Ironic that these kids can run all the way around a continent without getting tired, yet they can't climb up a small ledge. In 3D, it is a little like walking around the SS Libra in XD.

Heheh... reminds me how in some 3D games, you can run against a ledge that's a tiny little bit higher than the ground you're already on without falling off/stepping up onto it, yet you can walk up the ramp right next to it with no problem XD

They are a little weird, but I guess they just needed someway to section you off from certain areas and that's what they came up with ^^; I guess it is the only somewhat natural-looking thing you could use out in the wilderness to acheive that.. being able to go one way, but not come back another.

I never knew what those things were until about the GSC days. :p I would always think....Well...I don't know what I would think they were. lol Then I heard they were ledges and I was like...*looks back at them* Ohhh I see now what they are.

Seems too odd that there's like 10 ledges on a route sometimes and they're in random spots. Must mean the road area goes on an uphill walk.

Hmm, that gives me the idea that if they really enhanced the game to real life, when you would walk near the ledges, you would walk slower considering that there's an uphill walk. I don't know, just one of those things to think about. :p

Wow, now I seriously want to go rock climbing, I think I'll go tommorrow.

They're ledges for sure, I mean, what else would they be?

The fact that you can jump the little ones but not the slightly smaller ones always struck me as a bit stupid though.

If ya look at em long enough, they look like rock ledges. They did a much better job in portraying them in the third generation. But seriously, what road has that many ledges in it? Is the Pokemon world on a fault line, or something?
