Since Daylight Savings Time has just ended or is about to end for a lot of us here, I thought that it'd be interesting to have a little discussion about it. Basically, how do you feel about Daylight Savings Time? Do you love it? Hate it? And if you don't actually observe Daylight Savings Time, would you want to? Or are you glad that where you live doesn't observe it?

I myself love Daylight Savings Time and don't really like standard time that much. Not necessarily because I love the idea of changing my internal clock twice a year and experiencing all of the annoyances that come with that, but mainly because: A) I love sunlight, and B) I love mornings. For the most part, I feel happier and more energetic during both the morning hours and when the sun is out in general, while I tend to become slightly depressed when it's dark outside (especially in the early evening, right after sunset). You'd think that I'd prefer standard time, then, but in the case of the summertime, the days are already so long that the slight loss of sunlight in the mornings barely matters to me, and instead I appreciate the extra sunlight at night more. I will say, though, that Daylight Savings Time is awful during the early fall months where the mornings become practically dark because of it, which brings me to one of the few things that I do like about standard time: it brings the light back in the mornings. But it also makes the days feel even shorter than they already are at that point, which I hate. That said, standard time does get better once winter starts to kick in and the days get longer, and by the time that it's almost about to end, I actually kind of like it a little bit. So I guess you could say that I actually have a love-hate relationship with both Daylight Savings Time and standard time to some extent, and that what I really love are long days that are made even longer and short days that are made slightly less short.

At this time of year I loathe it. It's another signal - as if I needed one - that the days are getting darker and another herald of the oncoming winter. It's never too long till even the midday light is grey and insubstantial, and there's no getting any better till the Winter Solstice

The only thing I like about standard time is getting an extra hour of sleep. Still, when it gets darker earlier, it can be a little disorienting. It's especially noticeable when I moved further up north because it gets darker waaaay earlier here than it did when I lived in southern Texas, which got dark around 6 PM during standard time. Here, it gets dark around 5:30 PM with DST in effect which will change to 4:30 PM once DST is over. I'm not a fan of that, but it getting dark earlier is a fact of life living up north.

I like DST, and I think we should have it year round.
The fact that it can, and does, start getting dark as early as 4:00pm makes it very difficult for me to make it home from work in time for my Sabbath on Fridays.
Additionally, when one combines winter and long nights, it makes a depressing season of gray, gray, and more gray even more depressing.
Besides, having to jump back and forth between DST and "standard" time twice a year is ridiculous. Staying in DST year round would solve that problem too.

I think changing the clocks for Daylight Savings Time is kind of pointless. We're still getting the same amount of sunlight either way.

I hate it. I don't like remembering that I have to change my clocks. Besides, I grew up in countries that didn't do this nonsense so I'm not exactly used to it. I do remember one time the Dominican Republic tried to start using DST. That was the stupidest week of my life. I don't know if some government official fucked up somewhere but the sun was rising at literally 4am. The fuck is that?? So yeah, that only lasted a week and then things went back to normal.

Also, I've only ever had a proper winter for like two years of my life, when I went to boarding school in Pennsylvania for two years. All other points in my life I've lived in countries that only had one season (and now I live in Miami, which also only has the one season), so we don't get "grey grey grey" here.

Contrary to the first post (in which it was mentioned that Daylight Savings was ending in many parts of the world), Daylight Savings has been around for a month already here in Melbourne, Australia (it started on the first Sunday in October and will end on the first Sunday in April 2017), and I don't mind it (I can go for a walk in the evening and the sun is still out), even though there are people who are opposed to it here (mostly farmers in Queensland and Western Australia, who trialed it for a few years). And in case you are wondering here in Melbourne, Standard Time is UTC+10 and Daylight Savings time is UTC+11.

I have no real opinion of it. It is a thing that happens. I live in a location where there is only one season like dragon_nataku does. Winter doesn't exist, there's no snow, and it's usually sunny or rainy. Also, I'm typically up at night anyway. If it wasn't around, I wouldn't even notice it. The only thing I dislike is having to lose an hour later because I gained one earlier. I am ridiculously neurotic about time, so watching an hour just fly away under my nose like that really pisses me off. So I guess it'd rather not exist so I don't have to experience that unpleasantry.

We don't need it. It's a relic from WWI which we don't need, and it's annoying to have to get up earlier on one day. Besides, I prefer the night.

I absolutely hate Daylight Savings time. It does not save any time. It just makes life more annoying for everyone. They say it was made for farmers but they work from sun up to sun down anyway so it doesn't really matter what time that happens to be.

They need to stop doing it, |: Just stop. Please stop.

It was actually made for factory workers to produce more war needs during WWI. Still pointless, as now we have electric lighting virtually everywhere.

If I could get rid of it I would, sucks going an hour forward and back - would rather always the same.

I don't like it and believe it's not really needed anymore. It'd be easier to manage with slightly changed schedules over the year than having to change the measuring of time itself.
