Thoughts on Eurovision?

i have a love/hate relationship with eurovision. its a special interest for me so ill have to stop myself from yapping on about it. :lapras: i used to host big watch parties but i dont anymore because of the "hate" side of things. but i do have a playlist for all my favourite eurovision songs which ill listen to around eurovision time. ill listen to all the new songs and then add/remove songs from my playlist. the fun for me these days comes from discovering new cool songs and listening to music from lesser known artists. its kinda exciting because youll never know what cool interesting things youll find in amongst the more generic stuff you expect to hear every year. i like it when the artists sing in their native languages.

what song did you like?

Eurovision is my favorite event. I've been watching it for 17 years now. It has changed a lot over the years but the sense of union and celebration stayed the same (well, mostly...)

A few years ago I invited a few friends over to throw a Eurovision party. None of them were particularly interested in the show itself, but they joined for the sake of vibes and partying. Thing is, everyone loved the show. It is now our tradition to gather at my place and watch it together every year during the final night. As a treat, I cook traditional foods of participating countries to celebrate it. Can't say I am the best cook out there, but it does the job. I put flags of countries on the foods also.

It is also yet another excuse for some of us to meet and hang out, as we as adults are now very busy with our adult lives, but this is a kind of festival that unites us all together.

Now, the way EBU has been handling matters in the recent years has been quite very controversial, and it's been official especially after Martin Österdahl resigned. Disqualifying Joost Klein for politic reasons rather than so called incident, keeping an eye closed for one controversial country at the moment, claiming to make a poll to do the final decision and canceling it once they figured out the country in question would be voted out, all things combined leaves a bad taste in the mouth and it kills my joy of the event, but regardless I've been trying to not be affected by the politics surrounding it and just enjoy the vibes as I always have.
