Title says it all, but I'll give some examples, in order.
- WWII (sorry for starting on a bad note, but the importance of this war can't be ignored)
- Cars - cheap and reliable, but fairly weak and slow as opposed to Germany and America's powerful but expensive cars
- Sony - cameras and electronics
- Nintendo - console video games
- Food - I never liked it much; improperly prepared raw food is bad for health
- Their language - it's not too difficult to learn (the written part, at least. Having studied Hanzi, Kanji should only be a matter of pronunciation and minor variations i.e. shui and mizu), but the grammar is very different from that of Romance and Germanic languages and pretty unfamiliar
- Panty machines - girls get paid to donate their used panties. Supposed to have been banned in 1993 but reports say they're still there (Bing it)
- Cartoons - they call it anime and manga; focuses on different things, but mainly seems to involve robots/mechas (seriously, whenever I see some anime ad, it's nearly ALWAYS Gundam, the first anime I ever heard of)
- Speaking of these things, Japan is very focused on consumer-technology. Still, I think their technological level is a bit overrated
- Oh yes, and bad relations with Korea
