I know what "thread necromancy" is (posting in a really old thread that hasn't been posted on in a while), but I have a couple of questions regarding that:
1. What's wrong with it?
2. How old does a thread have to be (not posted in within a certain amount of time) before it goes old?

Thanks in advance.

Thread Necromancy – 3 points. Reviving an old, dead thread. May not be applied to threads posted in within the last month. Threads with a last post older than one month are up to the moderator.
from my understanding, older than a month unless something significant is added.
I find it annoying when it's a trade thread, and the person has already traded the offered pokémon, and someone still offers something for it.
I don't know much about the other sections other than the trade though.
Sorry for mini-modding if this is mini-modding.

I think another question is what is okay necromancy and what isn't. Someone jsut revived the "not as creative thread" with a really lame post, but then good conversation started. Does that go against the rules or not?

If I recalled, if you actually added something substantial to the argument its fine.

But on some threads in the Pokemon World forum, some people just post and quote someone elses saying "I agree" or whatever.

I think the rule is stupid.

The post might be pointless, but the thread isn't. Who really cares THAT much of what the date is?

The reason it exists is to prevent people from adding relevant posts to dead threads as +1's. They wouldn't be spam per se, but they also aren't something we want to allow.

It's sometimes moderator's discretion as to whether to infract/warn or not for it. Some cases are clearer than others.

Someone adding a relevant post would get punished for trying to bring a thread back to life?

Mods shouldn't punish for things like that, because that thread may very well get more activity, and provide more discussion.

But the post could as easily just lead to spam--say, in a thread about catching shinys from the R/S days of the forum--and somebody posts "I JUST GOT A SHINY RAYQUAZA," which is relevant and all, but really adds nothing to the forum and is a de facto +1.

And, as the rule says, moderators have discretion.

Moderators can use their discretion, as I said. A fanfic that hasn't been updated in four years that has a post of "nice story, I like the characters" could get an infraction. But most posts won't.

To add onto this, this doesn't seem to be an issue in the Workshop. Is it exempt from this, or what?

More like, if the post isn't only something like 'I agree/not' or something like this, the post would still be a comment on the fic and relevant feedback to it. And writers can revive their own old fic threads even with double posts.

Please note: The thread is from 16 years ago.
Please take the age of this thread into consideration in writing your reply. Depending on what exactly you wanted to say, you may want to consider if it would be better to post a new thread instead.
