I've had a lot of creative ideas pent up for a while, so here's yet another RP. Though this will probably be my last new one for a bit...

Threads of Fate
[/font]

Introduction:
Relationships both platonic and romantic make up a very great deal of our lives. Our relationships with our family, friends, teachers, peers, acquaintances all help to define who we are and what we do. Yet those relationships, which are a very real part of us, are ultimately abstract, intangible, and seemingly immaterial.

Now imagine that wasn’t so. Imagine a world where the bonds between all people--relationships of every kind--actually could be seen. In this world, a bond between two people is a tangible, actual thing--a thread of fate, joining their stories together. Most people, though aware of these threads, are unable to see or affect them in any extraordinary way; just like us, they must build and work at their relationships through communication and understanding.

But a select few do have the power to see these threads of fate, to actively manipulate them to their hearts’ desire--the Weavers. What would you do with that power?

The Plot:
The ability to forcibly alter these threads--effectively toying with the emotions of others--makes Weavers incredibly powerful. A skilled Weaver can win over thousands, make friends of enemies, turn allies into foes--a skilled Weaver can build a kingdom overnight. The Weavers ruled the world for centuries, nigh untouchable.

But the Weavers destroyed themselves in endless scheming and civil wars. They ignored the common people, believing themselves omnipotent, their dominion unassailable. They forgot that despite all their power, a Weaver was still just a person. Sick of tyranny and slavery, the people began purging newborn Weavers, killing them before their powers ever developed. And one by one, the kings and emperors died, until the great Weaver aristocracy was all but gone.

Utterly outnumbered, the few Weavers left were force to submit. They became the slaves and tools, kept at the margins of society and carefully monitored in ghettos and enclaves.

But like the Weaver tyrants before them, the new rulers slowly grew complacent, thinking that the Weavers had been utterly broken. And some were, simply to survive and preserve what was once theirs. But just as the common people once did, the new generations of Weavers began to plan and prepare, readying their rebellion.

You are the youth of this world, a Weaver still learning and discovering your power. Will you let bygones be bygones, learn to live simply in the places given to you? Or will you fight?

The World:
The world of this RP is much like ours; societies and technologies rose similarly, and the people act and live nearly the same. The only difference, of course, is the existence of the threads of fate, the Weavers, and their rule.

Threads of Fate:
Every person--Weaver or not--shares a thread of fate with every other person in the world. Weavers are blessed with the power to see and manipulate those threads. There is exactly one thread between any two people. Technically speaking, this means every person in the world has billions of threads connected to them.

All the threads together represent the sum of humanity, the commonalities shared and understood by everyone. However, the threads represent the relationships between people. While complete strangers can achieve a basic understanding with each other, the relationship itself is very weak. Thus, the strength of the relationship between two people determines the thickness of their thread. The thread between two people who have never met and have never heard of each other is incredibly fine; in fact, it is almost completely invisible to all but the most exceptionally powerful Weavers. Between best friends, the thread is much thicker, approximately an inch across.

In addition, the color of the thread of fate determines the nature of their relationship:

  • White: an acquaintance, someone whom you barely know and are barely familiar with
  • Black: a mortal enemy, someone whom you utterly loathe and with whom you have no hope of salvaging your relationship
  • Grey: someone you mistrust, though are still willing to work with, with the hope of improving your relationship
  • Orange: family
  • Yellow: an uneven relationship, often tainted by darker emotions like jealousy and anger, though only one-sided
  • Green: a mutual understanding and respect for each other, though not necessarily friendship
  • Blue: a true and deep friendship, even platonic love, to the extent of dying for one another
  • Violet: romantic love, true and lasting
  • Red: soul mates, with a love transcending all else; however, invisible until both people recognize the nature of their relationship

A thread can be multiple colors, except for Red; for instance, a sister who is also your best friend would have a thread that was both Blue and Orange.

While people can have many threads of the same color (such as many best friends or many lovers, with many Blue and Violet threads connecting you to them), a person has exactly one Red thread, and so only one soul mate.

In addition, Weavers can alter their threads with other Weavers, increasing the powers of both and adding a colored aura to their thread:

  • Gold: a partner bond, where both Weavers can draw on each other’s power at will.
  • Silver: an apprentice bond, with one Weaver designated as a student and the other a master; both may draw on the other’s power, though only if the master is willing

The Weavers:
Weavers have the power to see and manipulate the threads of fate. As they grow older and learn to refine their control, they can learn to see more delicate threads, as well as the particular nuances of a larger one. For instance, where a novice might see a simple Violet thread between a husband and wife, a master might see the Blue that formed the basis of their relationship, the slight Grey of the wife’s mistrust of her possibly cheating husband, and the Yellow of the husband’s jealousy of his wife’s successful career.

Effectively, Weavers are both empaths and enchanters. By observing and changing the threads between people, a Weaver can guess and manipulate the emotions of others. In addition, they can change the threads between themselves and others, making themselves appear as trusted friends and advisers. However, only non-Weavers are susceptible to this powerful seduction; a Weaver will feel and see the changes being made to their thread with the other Weaver, and can actively counter the change. Because Weavers can counteract the changes to their threads, a battle between Weavers becomes an all-out war, a race to completely dismantle the other’s threads and so completely ruin their relationships.

Physically, the only thing that identifies a Weaver is a slight glow in their eyes--a reflection of the threads of fate that only they can see. This glow, called the Mark of a Weaver, slowly intensifies over time, growing with the Weaver’s increasing power.

After the fall and exile of the Weavers, the new government established Cloisters, walled enclaves where the Weavers could be kept separate and under observation. To better identify Weavers, the government mandated that all children found to bear the Mark in their eyes were to be sent to a Cloister at age 13. There, they would be Sealed and Branded.

The Seal is simply a set of iron cuffs packed with high explosive. Should a Weaver attempt to leave their Cloister without proper government authorization, the Seal will explode, maiming and likely killing the Weaver.

Upon joining a Cloister, the Weaver is also Branded on the face (typically on the cheek or forehead) with a crescent-shaped brand, forever marking them as a Weaver and likely disfiguring them.

Acrona City and the Acrona Cloister:
Acrona City is the main setting of this RP, and is located along the Eastern seaboard of North America. It is much like a real-life American city, save for the fairly autocratic regime and the rampant anti-Weaver hatred.

Located on the outskirts of Acrona, in its slums, is the Acrona Cloister, where your characters will spend the majority of their time. All Cloisters, including Acrona, have high, guarded walls, much like a prison. Inside the walls, Acrona Cloister is fairly self-sufficient, even comfortable.

The Cloister houses a functional Weaver community, with housing for all residents, spacious areas and parks, small shops, and even a Weaver’s school, where new residents of the Cloister receive a full education and learn to control their powers.

However, the Cloister has no food or water of its own. All food is shipped in, and water run through government-controlled pipelines. Should the Weavers ever rebel, the gates to the Cloister can be shut and supplies cut off, leaving them to die a slow death by starvation.

Gameplay:
This RP is a mix of a standard academy RP and an action-adventure RP. Most of the time, your characters will simply be left alone in the Cloister to learn and live with one another. Of course, the powers of a Weaver adds an interesting dimension to relationships.

Occasionally, the Weavers are contracted by the government or ‘interested’ individuals for various shadow projects, and temporarily let out of the Cloisters with a modified Seal. On those occasions, your characters will be free to accomplish the mission in any way you see fit.

Lastly, the seeds of rebellion are stirring, though slowly and secretly. You can decide whether to help or hinder those stirrings, or ignore them completely.

But all in all, you will be left to your own imaginations and decisions to choose where this RP ultimately goes.

Rules:
  • Follow all BMGf rules. This includes the obvious ones: be respectful, no spamming, etc.
  • Keep it PG-13. Don’t go overboard with the violence or romance.
  • Be active. We want to keep the RP moving.
  • Be descriptive. Short posts make for a boring RP. Aim for at least three sentences, maybe even a paragraph per post.
  • Keep OOC to a minimum. Any major discussion should be here, in the sign-up thread. Any OOC in the start-up should be game-oriented.
  • No god-modding. Defeating everything effortlessly and solving every problem instantly makes for a very boring RP.
  • Don’t control other players’ characters. This is simply proper procedure in any RP.
  • Listen to the GM. I’m here to keep gameplay going and ensure things don’t go out of control.

Name:Daemon Somera
Age: 17
Gender:Male

Appearance: Daemon has jet-black hair reaching down to his nose. The ends are quite choppy, seeing as he cuts it himself. His eyes are dark brown and his skin is partially tanned, but that is mostly just his heritage. He stands at exactly six feet tall with an average build. Unlike most of the other weavers in the cloister, whose brands are on their cheeks or foreheads, Daemon had tried as hard as he could to escape the branding, and the brand had been misplaced. Covering his right eye is a black crescent shaped mark, because ofthe brand Daemon's eye is now blinded and eternally closed.

Despite being trapped inside the cloister, Daemon does still try to keep up the image he had before being taken. He tends to try to keep the skater image he had worked so hard to perfect. He'll either wear a black hoody or a button-up flannel shirt, with the sleeves rolled up. Either way he'll wear dark blue jeans and his black and white skating shoes. He wears a silver communion medal around his neck, for it is the only thing he has left from his life on the outside.

Background: Daemon is the distant descendant of one of the great Weaver tyrants. His heritage had gone lost as time went on, and the gift had skipped tens of generations, ending with him. The moment his mother held him in her arms she knew something was wrong. The first time he opened his eyes his mother noticed the feint orange glow in his pupils. She instantly knew she couldn't keep this baby.

Hesitantly she left him at an orphanage, trying to never look back. He grew up in the orphanage, no one ever wanting to adopt him. Despite barely having any control over his curse, the caretakers feared him. Having known the time would come when he'd have to be taken away, he ran away the night before his thirteenth birthday, but his attempts were to no avail. Within just a few hours he had been found and thrown into the cloister.

Personality: Daemon is extremely hot-headed and easily holds grudges. He spent most of his life alone and plans to keep it that way. He prefers to do thing by himself without any help whatsoever. He isn't the best at making friends, but it's not like he ever really tries. He is quite anti-social and will often only respond with grunts and growls.

RP Sample: My posts definitely aren't the longest, but I do indeed try. My post length does vary from RP to RP, but this one will probably require longer post than many others. Unfortunately some of MoP's randomness did rub off on me, but I know when to use it and when to not. I tend to be strict with grammar, and become annoyed when someone appears to completely ignore the rules.

@bpj1999: Approved. Just keep your post quality up once the RP actually begins ;).
