Several hours outside of Evergrande, the island finally makes it's appearance on the horizon. A soft, misty green spot, you figure it's probably another hour away. A voice blares over the loudspeaker:

"Hello fellow researchers! I hope the voyage is going well for all of you! This is Doctor Harris, head of the Tianami anthropological team. I am very excited to be talking to all of you once we reach the island! For now, make sure your pokemon are at your side before we land."

As the loudspeaker clicks off, you look back over at the small speck of an island. You raise a brow as you notice there seems to be a great mound jutting up from its middle.
No one mentioned an volcano, you think.

---------

Soli let Nel out of her pokeball, smiling as she watched the Flaafy appeared on deck. She gave it a soft pat on the head, and looked out at the horizon.

I wonder, She thought to herself, What the people there are like.

"Look Mo-Mo!" Star addressed her Leafeon, who sat ontop of her shoulder. Her excitement grew as she watched the island come closer, "Damn, I should have brought a camera"

Aaron Reese leaned over the rail of the ferry as it crossed the waters. The announcement had been a welcome one, since he probably would have been too absorbed with studying the school of Remoraid that were swimming alongside the boat instead of the looming island. Stretching backwards, the young librarian whistled. Almost immediately, Reed, his Houndoom, came running around the corner of the ship.

"All right Reed. Few more minutes and we'll be in uncharted territory. You ready?" Aaron asked his pokemon. Reed barked. Laughing, Aaron walked towards the spot where they would all exit the ship.

I hope, he thought, that our team is up for whatever challenges the future holds.

Because I have no clue how this is going down.

An anxious tingle overtook Andrew's body. He was nervous AND excited to be embarking on such an adventure.

He took out the Poke-ball from his jeans pocket and released his trusty Poliwhirl.

"Come on out, Kenji!"

The blue Pokemon appeared and jumped up into Andrew's arms. The two friends remained silent as the island approached.

Andrew thought to himself, "Oh man, I wonder what I've gotten myself into!"

Ari couldn't help but grin as she stood near the front of the boat, leaning over the rail slightly. "This is going to be so amazing, Ito!" she said, rolling her eyes nearly straight up in an attempt to see the Swablu that was currently perched on her head. "Just think -- all new people and myths to explore, and who knows what else?"

"Bluu!" Itokuzu -- or Ito -- chirped, flapping his fluffy wings happily.

Ari laughed softly, reaching up and letting Ito walk onto her hand to prevent him from being blown away in the strong breeze. "Who knows -- we might even find some whole new kinds of pokemon while we're there." she said, stroking the soft wings of her pokemon, who closed his eyes and made a happy humming sound.

The sound of steps from behind her caused her to turn, and she saw someone with a Houndoom making their way to the main cabin. "Ah...you're Mr. Reese, right?" she asked, turning fully around and cradling Ito in her arms.

"Ah...you're Mr. Reese, right?"

The woman who was leaning over the rail ahead of him had startled Aaron, because it had seemed like all attention had been on her Swablu. Regaining his composure, Aaron said, "Yes, Aaron Reese at your service. Librarian of Olivine City and author of... you don't care do you?" Aaron wasn't going to walk into this situation again. He had caught his newest aid burning Beneath the Current because Aaron never seemed to stop talking about it. Maneuvering away from the topic he said, "So, you're Arianna Emerson, the dragon lady, right? What brings you to this little expedition?" Aaron was surprised it had taken him so long to recognize the woman whose work he had studied so much prior to the Dragon's Den adventure.

Ari gave a small smile. "I care a lot, actually," she replied, "even though I'm already familiar with your work." She leaned back against the rail, absent-mindedly rubbing the top of Ito's head. "And I'm here mainly to learn about the myths of the Tian. One of my main goals is to see if Dragon-types are portrayed differently here than they are in 'regular' society."

Saigo, unlike the rest, was sitting in his cabin, waiting for the journey to be over. He shook his head, "Ugh. What possessed me to agree to this? I hate water."

His ever-present companion Sea Titan chuckled mentally, the gem in her centre shifting several colours as she did so. "And yet I'm the one you always have out."

"That's because you're good company. Sea water is not." He stood up and walked to the door, throwing his coat on, surreptitiously checking his pockets for something before pulling out a pair of sun-goggles and putting them on his head. "Better go meet and greet with the other researchers. And I can't wait to find out what the history behind this mysterious ritual is."

Saigo stepped out on deck and immediately grabbed the wall for support, before unsteadily walking his way over to the rest of the group.

Ari couldn't help but chuckle slightly as the staggering figure of another researcher, a Starmie floating by his side, emerged on deck. "Would you like some help?" she asked, trying not to let her amusement show in her voice.

Andrew finally stood up. He saw that the rest of his colleagues were gathering and mustered enough courage to approach them.

"Come on, Poliwhirl...Mom's not here, these people are going to be our family for the time being..."

Andrew nervously walked over to the group, but struggled with what to say.

Aaron exhaled. "Finally, someone who appreciates my writings." He noticed one of the researchers leaving their cabin and heading towards them. He looked as green as a Scyther. Aaron chuckled slightly. Arianna had already asked the man if he needed some help. The librarian added, "Moving around probably isn't the best plan right now."

A man with a Poliwhirl was walking towards them. It seemed like everyone was getting anxious to get on land again.

Star was walking when she spoted a guy who looked like he was about to pass out. Worried, she was about to approach him until she noticed him walking over to some other people. Smileing, she walked over to them with Mo-Mo still perched up on her shoulder,

"Hello!" She greeted happily, she looked at the person who looked somewhat green, "Sea sick huh? Well, that's okay, we're almost at the island," she gave him a reassuring smile.

OOC: Guys, I feel really bad about this, but in the original post, I wrote 'No one mentioned an island.' What I really mean is that 'No one mentioned a volcano'. Er, so there's a giant volcano in the middle of the island. Just wanted to clear it up XD

IC: Soli looked down at all the people gathering on the lower part of the deck. She had to hold down a giggle as she saw one of the men was clinging to the side of the boat perilously.

I hope he feels alright, she thought to herself.

Soli turned to Nel. "What do you think?" she said, "Should we introduce ourselves?"

"Flaa," muttered Nel as she looked up at her owner idyllically.

Soli flew down the stairs, enjoying the salty air as it whipped around her face. She found a spot near the dragon woman and tried to face most of the group.

"Hi everyone," she said, smiling, "I'm Soli. I study pokemon eating habits in Sinnoh."

After a few minutes of mingling, the loudspeaker clicks on again, and you hear the jolly voice of Professor Harris: Hello once again! I trust you are all feeling well? Haha, well, if not, we'll be landing very soon. Why don't you all come into the cabin in five so we can have our pre-landing meeting and I can meet all of you young people?

OOC: I'm going to continue to post gm stuff and my character in the same posts, unless y'all would prefer them separate. If so, pm me.

Aaron widened his eyes. "Soli?" he said. "As in Soli Fahkir? Your research was brought up at the last iPRO meeting. I'm impressed with your findings." He held out his hand. "Aaron Reese, Olivine librarian and author of Beneath the Current. You've probably read it." He smirked. So, this time he had been surrounded by a group of people who were experts in their field. Not bad in any way. At least he knew he wouldn't be doing everything this time.

The loudspeaker interrupted his introduction. Well, Aaron thought, let's get this show on the road.

OOC: Okay, Is it alright with everyone if I use something from my RPing past, where my dialogue is in color? I find that it makes it easier to read.

OOC: Ryuutakeshi, you can do that if you wish, but could you perhaps pick a different color? Er, maybe white? The red is a little hard to read because it's so bright. But you know, writing the tradtional way will make your dialogue stand out on its own. ie:

blah blah blah body text

"dialogue," speaker tag

By making dialogue a separate paragraph draws attention to it. But, if you want to do the color thing, just pick something less bright. (Grey might be a good option, too.)

IC: "Oh, well, Mr. Reese, that's very nice of you to say," Soli said, her cheeks darkening, "I'm not really that good, though, you know? Mostly picking up where my mother left off."

"But I do think I've read your book. Quite thorough," she noted, waving offhandedly, "I never knew there was so much history in the Swirl Islands."

Wow, there are some really famous people here Soli thought to herself. She didn't know what she was thinking, expecting everyone would be at her level. I'm probably the least experienced person here, she noted inwardly, I hope I can keep up with everyone once we're on the island. I get lost once people start rambling on in scientific jargon!

Soli looked at the others and gestured to the door. "Shall we go in, then, everyone?"

OOC: Thanks, but that's not really my style. I'll go with white. It works.

Aaron grinned. Yet another fan. Life was looking up.

The librarian trainer followed the pokemon breeder into the main cabin, where they were going to get their briefing. From his own experiences, Aaron knew that this was crucial. If they did something to offend the natives, the whole trip would be for nothing. Not good. Aaron couldn't imagine writing a book and all it said was, "We got off the boat, told the chief to screw himself, and then we got kicked off. The End."

Andrew saw the rest of the group walking down to the cabin. He and Poliwhirl ran to catch up. He wasn't good at introductions...or good at being around people in general.

"Um...hey everybody, I'm Andrew." He said nervously as he adjusted his glasses on his nose.

"I'm really excited to meet you all."

Andrew could tell everyone else was excited. He was too. With that, he followed the rest of them down to the cabin for the briefing.

Ari turned to Andrew, another smile on her face as they walked in. "Ah, hello." she said, holding out one hand to shake. The other still cradled Ito. "I'm Ari -- it's nice to meet you."

Andrew's eye grew wide when he saw Ari and her long black hair and beautiful blue/green/grey eyes. Andrew had never been good at talking to girls, but it was time to grow up!

"Hi, Ari," Andrew greeted the 20 year old girl and shook her hand firmly, "I'm Andrew, it's nice to meet you."

The greeting was a bit forced, but Andrew hoped she wouldn't notice. Andrew tried to hide the fact that he was shy.

Kenji waddled alongside Andrew and greeted Ito.

"Hee, your poliwhirl is so cute!" Soli said to Andrew, smiling, "I'm Soli."

Soli watched as all the researchers slowly made their way into the cabin. She was surprised at how composed they all were. I hope none of them notice how nervous I really am, she thought. Nel came up and brushed against her leg for assurance.

"Ouch!" she cried. Nel always forgot about the static.
